A good friend of mine is very tight with David Andrews (knows him and his family well). He told me last week that Andrews absolutely loves it up here and really didn't want to leave. When it was rumored he was gone, my friend texted me "not so fast....could be, but I know he wants to stay." I didn't realize Andrews wanted to stay that badly for such short money!
I really like Andrews’ decision. Assuming he’s not dumb with his money this contract will be more than enough for him to have a comfortable life, and being in a good situation with a legendary coach will maximize his chances of getting the full contract amount and of being able to have whatever post playing career he wants in football. Which in his case might matter; he really seems to dig the game.

I was thinking this too. Andrews by all accounts is really smart, a hard worker and a football nut. Those are great qualities for coaches. Andrews could have less need to max his current contract than many of his contemporaries.

How good would it be it he were to become the next Scar and mentor future generations of OLs?

It would surprise me too.... maybe some other offers will leak.

I don't doubt he wanted to stay and took some discount but makes me wonder if his value around the league is less than the consensus here.
I wonder if his blood clot issue is a bigger red flag to others and thus his “bigger offers” might have been far more incentive based.

Yeah that crossed my mind as well. I don't recall if any predisposing factor was found in his case or if it was felt to just be bad luck. Perhaps due to HIPAA we just never got the details.

Wouldn't surprise me if it made some teams alter their contract structure.
