From Michael David Smith of PFT:

"The Falcons took Saubert out of Drake in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL draft. He has been more a blocker than a receiver and has just five catches for 48 yards through two NFL seasons. But he’s been a valuable special teams contributor and was second on the Falcons in special teams snaps last year, appearing on 66 percent of special teams plays."

This could mean LaCosse's injury could be worse than initially thought.
I doubt it. They traded a conditional seventh, which is the proverbial bucket of balls. There is literally no investment in Saubert. He was a longshot to make the roster in ATL and he's probably still a longshot to make NE's.

That's not to say LaCosse is fine, I just don't think this has anything to do with his health status.

Meh, just a seat-warmer until Gronk is back.

This does provide BB with a scrappy small-college guy. When as the last time Drake University produced an NFL player?

Hey, there's Drake product Billy Cundiff, who had a long career but is beloved around these parts for blowing a 32-yard FG in the 2011 AFC Championship Game against the Pats.

Back then Mr. Kraft said the late Myra Kraft reached out and tipped the ball.

Just the tip, Kraft.

Pats media: "The Patriots have too many good players, expect some of then to be traded for picks"

Bill Belichick: *trades a pick for another player*

This guy sounds like competition for Izzo not LaCosse.
I don't know. I haven't seen much of Saubert but the reports on his blocking coming out of Drake weren't great. And last year he was buried behind not only Austin Hooper but Logan Paulsen, who was the primary blocking guy. He sounds more like a LaCosse type: big but not considered a great blocker, some athletic upside but not a lot of receiving production. Probably just kicking the tires on him, maybe adding another body for practice with Kendricks and LaCosse banged up.

Receiving tight end with ST ability. The limited clips of him from draft/nfl twitter suggest he has above average special team skills.
