Probably depth. If he doesn't make the roster then they don't owe the Packers a pick.

Well, they certainly can't like what they're seeing re: the defensive line in camp.  The Skins OL demolished them.  They should be very concerned at this point and, hence, the trades.

When you say the Skins OL dominated them, were you talking about the game or the joint practices? If you're talking about the game, that should have no bearing on anyone's evaluation of the group. None of the 1's really played at all.

Here's a 2012 breakdown that ranked Worthy as the #3 DL prospect available, ahead of Poe, Brockers and Cox in this guy's opinion.

That write up is eerily similar to the write-ups on Dominique Easley. Minus the knee injuries.

Here's a January 2013 item on Worthy's ACL injury and how it would affect his 2013 season.

Here's an SB/blog piece on how Worthy went from hyped hope to forgotten man after playing only two ineffective games in 2013 after the ACL rehab and a look at his 2014 potential for the Packers.

Bottom line: There's talent. There might also be effort issues (see the SB piece). There's an injury history. But if he's healthy and motivated, he's a 3-4 end or 4-3 tackle with big potential.

We didn't acquire Worthy (and Bass) today to displace the #1's. We acquired them to challenge those 2's and 3's who sucked out loud in their first opportunity to earn a job.

BB don't take no shit.

Yeah, this seems more like an assessment of Bequette, Buchanan, Will Smith and the other guys down the depth chart. Both Bass and Worthy are bodies with tons of questions - not guys displacing  anyone with a solid roster spot.

I never said these guys would be taking anyone's spot that is important. I was just trying to see why last week's performance would skew anyone's view on the d-line. 3/4 of the game was played by people who will be bagging groceries by September 1st. I agree these are depth moves. Worthy is a Blount-like move. Low risk, high reward.

These are depth moves necessitated by the suckitude displayed from those on the field last week who failed to impress as sufficient depth. Hence new depth to challenge the old depth that sucked when they were given an opportunity to impress.

It's certainly not a panic move over our starters......it's about upgrading the depth.

Is it really upgrading depth when he's been out all training camp with a back injury? When exactly is the evaluation going to come?
Hence the "pending physical."

The trade is official per the NFL transaction wire, but it's not confirmed that he passed his physical.  Sometimes trades are completed but nixed due to the physical.
Yeah, which is why I asked if he passed the physical.  You did not really answer the question I asked.

He did. And it's question that no one knows the real answer to yet.

No questions raised during Worthy's physical today, per Rapoport:

New #Patriots DL Jerel Worthy took his physical today. As far as I know, no questions were raised, meaning trade should be official tomorrow

To be fair he hasn't practiced at all with the Packers before the trade. Plus, no pick goes to the Packers if Worthy does not make the roster. No risk here at all.

Doesn't going into the practice bubble vs. the trainers room seem odd?  He had sometype of back procedure this offseason and is coming off a knee injury.  This could be as simple as the trainers wanting to do some type of strength test and not wanting the media to see.  Either that or this guy is broken, which carries no risk, so....good?

Going into the practice bubble with the trainers indicates that they are doing some type of rehab work with him.

This doesn't answer my question.

I'm not sure what the thinking is here with Worthy and Bass--they've missed camp, so they have to go easy, and they have two weeks to beat out both Will Smith and Vellano to make the roster. Maybe Bass is still eligible for the practice squad, but Worthy?
How do we stash him for a protracted look?

If they cut Worthy then the trade costs them nothing right? So it's kind of a why not. Maybe you get lightning in a bottle type of situation.

They might be only 80%-90% sold on smith and thought why not kick the tires on this guy for free and see if he can beat out the older player.
