Pierce was the third line of defense on that play (fourth, if you count Joe Johnson's reach-in). Williams played great deny defense on the inbound, and then, with Garnett, continued to play great defense, forcing Lowry into a very unconventional, wrong-footed shot. Pierce deserves credit for being in the right position and making a nice play, but it wasn't even in the top 10 of plays in the first round of these playoffs, albeit, hugely impactful.

I think a better approach would have been to make one of his two previous shots in the final minute.

He's always going to be my favorite basketball player. I credit him for keeping my interest as a young fan when the C's were toiling. He began my love affair with basketball, sustained it through hard winters and lean springs. And he gave me the only Celts championship I've ever witnessed.

It was an absolute pleasure to watch his career become what it did. Both on the court and in the locker room. I love The Truth unconditionally. He's the guy I want taking the last shot to get me out of hell and into heaven.

And thank God for Tony Battie.
