Damn. I have some memories of his reporting from growing up and a lot of nostalgia in general tied up in early 2000's baseball reporting. When he followed Bonds exclusively at the end of Barry's career I really enjoyed his work. Gomez was a good one. RIP.

The stories about him on Twitter are really something. Seems like he was a genuinely great guy.

In case you haven't seen it, TJ Quinn has a very good thread about Pedro Gomez and the column he wrote in 2001 about Schilling. And more importantly, what he did after he wrote the column.

Here's the thing I want to share about Pedro. He wasn't fearless. He was completely human. But he had more honor and courage than fear, and that propelled him to do some of the bravest things I ever saw in this business. 1

I still can’t come up with the words. I loved Pedro and feel like I’ve lost a brother. My kids feel like they’ve lost an uncle. I never knew anyone with a bigger heart. My god, this hurts. twitter.com/espnpr/status/…
