Photo storage solutions

I thought we had a thread on this somewhere but can't seem to dig it up.
My wife and I are both iPhone users and use my MBP to dump our pictures. However, Apple's Photo desktop app continues to be hot garbage. I have months of pics on my phone that I thought were backed up on the computer that are not there and Photos doesn't recognize them even when plugged in. I've searched for solutions but so far nothing works. There are work arounds but I'm done with fighting it. Apple media management is just awful.

I would like to do a cloud based backup and Flickr seems to do the trick and offers 1TB free storage for each account. The issue I worry about with Flickr is that I'm not sure what their future is since the Yahoo! sale. Anyway, just looking for suggestions on what other people use and what features I might want to look for that I may not be taking into consideration. I want something easy to sync (possibly share between 2 phone accounts). I don't mind paying for storage but I'm a cheap bastard so I do take cost into consideration.

Thanks. I assumed most of these were still only offering the free 5GB with paid upgrade options. I was using Dropbox a while back but that filled up fast. Plus I want something dedicated for photos. I'll try both Google and Prime.

It's like $2 a month for 100 gigs of "original quality" on Google Photos. That's pocket change for what the service offers. It always shocks me how few people are willing to pay for such an important thing.

I find that the iCloud/Apple solution works great. The best feature is that it backs pictures up automatically from my phone as soon as I take them and they appear right away on all of my devices. However, you can't have one photo library with multiple iCloud accounts. How did you have it set up with the two iPhones and one library?

The problem with iCloud it really just mirrors whats on my phone. What I want to be able to do is back them up so I can delete them from my phone. Plus the constant "running low on storage" headaches.

I use the unlimited Amazon Prime photo storage since I already have prime anyways. The app works well and syncs automatically. The only downside is that there is a storage limit on videos.

I love Google, but I cut Photos out of the loop and just backup phone photos direct to a holding folder in my Drive (which I pay for but is entirely worth it)

Was just searching the site for advice on this same issue, but only found this from 2016.

I have Flickr and like it a lot. Stream my photos as screen saver on my tv, great quality....lots of good things to say about it. But I do get nervous about it going belly-up, though so far as I can tell it's semi-stable now.

So maybe I'll ask 2 general questions if any expertise here: is Flickr a stable place for my photos and are there good alternatives?

Amazon photos has unlimited storage space available for prime members at no extra charge.

Ah...I have Prime -- cool, thx. Maybe I'll just keep Flickr since I like/know the functions, but back up to Amazon as well just in case. And thx as well on the Smug mug note. Have to figure their parallel tracks will converge at some point.

Much appreciated....

Consumer reports covered this in 2018 with a comparison of many storage options. Amazon seems to be a good solution if you already have Prime. CR 2018
