Greg Oden is still only 29. Otis Nixon is long past 32. So I suppose your statement is possibly correct.Perkins has to be the oldest-looking 32 year-old on the planet.
That was Doc's "retirement" gift.Pierce sitting in a wheelchair. Fantastic.
What, the Ray Allen thing? There was an ESPN article about it today, they explain how that team felt like more than just a team, it was a family, and the way Ray went about his departure, not telling anyone, not discussing it, felt like a breach of their friendships with each other - so they feel like they're owed an apology, not for leaving but for the way he did it, before they really accept him back as their friend.I stand by my comment from earlier in this thread. So fucking petty.
Yea, this. Maybe Ray Allen doesn't give two fucks about their friendship. In fact, that seems pretty obvious at this point. It's been 10 years guys. Time to move on.so they feel like they're owed an apology, not for leaving but for the way he did it, before they really accept him back as their friend.
When was Ray Allen ever their friend? The turmoil existed pretty much from the get go. From my recollection you had the veterans in one corner, Rondo/Perk/TA and the other youngs in the other, and Ray Allen off on his own once the game or practice ended. What, the Ray Allen thing? If he doesn't care then why would he care about being on Area 21? Who should care at all? They're obviously all still close and KG has his buddies on that show. That's the whole point of the show. It wasn't an official reunion or anything. I think it would have been weird with Ray there if they don't get along.Yea, this. Maybe Ray Allen doesn't give two fucks about their friendship. Agree completely. It's not ridiculous to feel hurt that he left or that it was done too abruptly for their liking. But Ray had a right to feel the way he did (note: he was shooting a career-high 45.3 percent from three on 5.1 attempts per game that last season. Who can blame an all-time great for thinking he deserves to retain starter minutes?). At this point he's being ganged up on and it's not on him to apologize, as Perk and others say. You'd hope five guys together could manage to be the bigger man here.I stand by my comment from earlier in this thread. So fucking petty.
5 others feel betrayed at the WAY he did it... The guys that were actually in the room with him. That's a fact - they've said so repeatedly. Edit: Pierce said it was like coming home to an empty house, with the kids gone and no note. The issue to them seems clearly the manner not the why.Agree completely. Davis' had serious issue with the Clippers and their medical team/Rivers. I don't even know if I've mentioned it here or only on CelticsNuts but i'm friendly (not friends, just friendly) with his father-in-law, who hates Glen since he was caught on video trying to get a hotel room with another woman a few years ago but I digress.......Multi-millionaires have their feelings hurt then air it out Real Housewives style. Thanks for the memories boys but I have zero interest in this (except for a morbid curiosity in how Big Baby looks).
That team was fun as shit to follow. They were as tight-knit as the 2004 Red Sox. Anyone who was a Celtics fan fell in love with the 2007-2011 team, and plenty of people on the periphery of fandom became real fans as a result of that group (including me). They weren't just a group of colleagues coming to work together, they were more like a military platoon on a long campaign. Their struggles mattered to those who liked watching them. Their ultimate success, not to mention the way it happened (the game 7s, the Finals Game 4 comeback, and beating the Lakers) felt hugely validating. The NBA still samples footage from that team for their ads. They mattered.Multi-millionaires have their feelings hurt then air it out Real Housewives style. Not to sidebar this too much but, non NFL, I wonder how often this occurs. I know it'd be an extra expense but I would always keep my private non-team doctor if I was an athlete. Especially the marginal/bench guys because the team definitely cares a lot less long term about their health. That team was fun as shit to follow. They were as tight-knit as the 2004 Red Sox. You don't think fans who got emotionally invested can care about how that small group of extraordinary people had a falling-out? That the story of how it wasn't happily-ever-after is banal, useless trivia to those fans? That their incomes play any role in it at all? I find this dismissive bit by you kinda bizarre, especially given where you're posting it.
You're missing out, the Ray stuff is one segment the rest of them are telling stories and discussing the current NBA landscapeMulti-millionaires have their feelings hurt then air it out Real Housewives style. Baby made a few public comments about Rivers not being a great coach and being extremely lucky to coach PP, KG and RA a few months ago. I didn't know the backstory about his injury. Rivers commented about it briefly in this video at about 1:40:Davis' had serious issue with the Clippers and their medical team/Rivers. I don't even know if I've mentioned it here or only on CelticsNuts but i'm friendly (not friends, just friendly) with his father-in-law, who hates Glen since he was caught on video trying to get a hotel room with another woman a few years ago but I digress.......
Baby reinjured his ankle in the playoffs last year in the final year of his contract and x-ray/mri (not sure which) and was told he was fine. They shot him up for Game 6 (or Game 7 I forgot) then following the season he didn't feel right, went to see his own guy and found that the ankle required surgical ligament repair along with bone spurs being removed and something else......then had another surgery a few months later knocking him out for this entire past season. Father in law said (paraphrasing), "Glen hates Doc and hates the Clippers right now. Ah, he just needs the year to get healthy then he'll get in someone's camp." Naturally I made a comment about Baby's dietary habits during his year off which didn't receive as much as a smirk in return (awkward moment). Judging from the pic looks like he isn't about to be playing again in the NBA anytime soon.
So there is the real reason for the awkwardness of that situation.
This. Just fascinating for fans of the Celtics, that squad in particular or the NBA in general. You're missing out, the Ray stuff is one segment the rest of them are telling stories and discussing the current NBA landscape
Yup. My best friend and I had season tickets for the entire run of that team. Always thought a lot of stories, insights, and comments would come out that wouldn't have if they were all still in the league. I think some of that is here in Area21 segments and we'll see a bit more down the line.This. Just fascinating for fans of the Celtics, that squad in particular or the NBA in general.
