Not a good sign for David Wright, right?
His diagnosis is "spinal stenosis," which sounds horrifying to me. Sounds like they aren't counting on him for much.

It depends on where in the spine, but it's not a good diagnosis for for someone who needs quick twitch muscle reactions. It's common in my family and it always leads to various levels of incapacitation over time.

“@jonmorosi: Sources: #Rangers and #Phillies having ongoing dialogue about Cole Hamels, and he is willing to waive no-trade to Texas. @FOXSports”

“@Buster_ESPN: PHI is working through trade discussions with multiple teams re: Hamels, and some execs believe they’re pushing to finish a Papelbon deal.”

Oh mets
“@jcrasnick: A MLB exec on #Mets: "They want a middle of the order OF bat who isn't going to cost anything -- in terms of dollars or players.''”

You have to ask for more at first in a negotiation, but you also have to be somewhat realistic
That's kind of the wrong idea in a trade. Were a team, you and I. We both have pieces we need and pieces we have so let's just work together.

looks like Padres will be deconstructed soon

Who was it the floated the idea of a Sandoval/Shields swap?

Pablo: 4 more years, 77.4 mil
Shields: 3 more years, 65 mil

Would you do it and eat 10 mil?  Shields' HRs and BBs are up, but so are his Ks.

Jeff Passan suggested the Indians are willing to listen on Carlos Carrasco. I don't buy it.

It was on the radio, but Olney (I think...) said he thinks it's almost certain the Yankees end up with Chapman or Kimbrel.

This makes perfect sense for them. They have six-inning starters, and constructing the type of three-headed bullpen monster that KC uses would really help the NYY

Holy crap I feel for mets fans

“@jessespector: I asked Alderson if David Wright's insurance situation gives the Mets more financial flexibility for a trade. He said no.”

“@Mike_Vorkunov: Alderson says the insurance money Mets have recouped from Wright's deal won't allow them more financial flexibility in trades”

Puig is available "in the right deal."

Wonder what they are looking to get back for him? His value is clearly down during this "disappointing" season, which is why he's available at all, but I can't imagine he wouldn't cost a painful haul of prospects. Even still, there has to be a team out there willing to take a chance on him getting back to being one of the top 10-15 players in the league.

I'm assuming that Heyman screwed up the first line here:

The Toronto Blue Jays are making a major push for David Wright, sources say.

Toronto appears to be a strong favorite at this point.

The Jays have the prospects and strong arms the Tigers like.

The Dodgers, Giants and Yankees also have been involved. But it may wind up being a quick derby.

Toronto has been working hard to add a pitch. The Jays already made one huge move this trade deadline by adding star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.
