Winning three road games is a tough task but its been done before and I think SF has enjoyed the best injury luck of any real contender this year and is peaking at the right time.

That's two years straight that SF has been really healthy heading into the playoffs.  That's actually pretty amazing if you think about it.

Yup, from the perspective of a Patriots fan it seems pretty unfair!  Their only starter to suffer a significant injury was Crabtree and they have him back now.  The most important players they've had to put on IR are probably Chris Culliver and Mario Manningham.  Compare that to our walking wounded, Denver losing Miller/Clady/Vickerson, Seattle losing Rice and probably Harvin, Green Bay having a million guys on IR and maybe losing Matthews, etc.

Because the Pats can't play the Bengals in the AFC Championship. Only time for them to meet is the divisional round.

I hear ya.

I'm thinking NO outside is doable.

I'm thinking they could beat Carolina as Steve Smith may not be back and Cam's toe could affect him.

I'm thinking they could beat SF in Philly, which is where that game would be.

And I'm hoping they could beat Denver in a foot of snow in the Meadowlands.

More likely they'll lose to the Saints in the Wild Card round.

A boy can dream though.

I love what Chip has done, but their only win over a playoff team this year was GB without Rogers. I can totally see them beating the Saints at home which would be huge for the franchise.

If things don't break right for the Pats like having to play CIN and DEN back to back, they're not going to make it. SD's already beaten Denver once so we can dream.

If the Pats don't make it out of the AFC, I don't like any of the AFC teams to win against a NFC team. If I wasn't a giant homer I wouldn't think NE will beat any of them either.

I would never put it past the current state of NFL Referreeing to all-but-guarantee a Broncos win through ticky-tack PI calls and a few Roughing the QB calls for good measure.

I am a HFA skeptic, I think most of it is crowd noise and some weak ref bias, with some weather thrown in. If Sean Payton is smart he will bring an enormous sound system to the practice field this week and next. And practice the whole week after in GB. Outside. We will see if they get those chances.

Giant homer - me too. But I am picking the Pats as any given Sunday applies here. Of the 12 teams in it their odds of winning it all probably range from 5-10%. (On phone or I'd look up odds)

What do you mean by "HFA skeptic?" It's indisputably a real thing - every single team in the league has a better point differential at home since 2002 - though maybe the effect isn't as dramatic as folks think (Seattle has the most dramatic HFA and they're 10 points better at home than on the road; average is between 5 and 6).

On football outsiders, the odds listed for SB win are:

SEA 24.9%
DEN 20.2 %
NE 14.7 %
CAR 14.5 %
PHI 6.5
CIN 4.7
SF 3.5
KC 3.4
NO 2.8
GB 2.3
SD 1.8
IND 0.6

The only caveat that they say that they added was to only have AAron games count for GB. Same can't be said for the other dozen impactful injuries I assume. And I don't think they factor in "Peyton playing in the cold" sort of stuff that some people might apply.

NE has traditionally done very poorly in Denver and needed a whole lotta Gronk to beat them at Gilette. HFA sure would've been nice. I don't think CIN is going to be a cakewalk either.

There's a greater than 50% chance that one of the favorites will get upset, but Denver/Seattle is by far the most likely SB matchup. Any other prediction is playing a hunch.

Having said that, I like Philly's chances of crashing the party better than anyone else's. They are playing great football (3rd in weighted DVOA, behind SEA and DEN), and I like their draw -- they should beat NO at home, and among the four bye teams, I think CAR is the most vulnerable. (They are an excellent team, obviously, but would you rather go into Seattle or Denver, or face BB and Brady with two weeks to prepare? Didn't think so.)

And subjectively, the Eagles remind me of the Packers team that won the SB as a #6 seed a few years ago. Like those Packers, these Eagles are much better than their record, and Nick Foles is playing at an elite level right now and might be able to sustain that for four more games, even if he'll never be a super-elite QB like Rodgers.
