So, I have a 6 month old Honda Civic. CarPlay worked great till today. Now no matter what I try, it says I have no phone connected. I tried a different cord, restarted phone, checked all settings, googled. I did update to iOS 12.4.3 last night. I’m guessing that is it, but not sure what to do. Is it a Honda problem or an Apple problem? Should I just get a new phone?

I believe it is a Honda issue. I have a 2018 civic, and have had many CarPlay issues since buying it new, although less severe than yours. The dealership explained that their interface was built for android, and the apple portion was an add-on. They offered no solutions. Connecting is sketchy, but once connected most features work until phone is slightly moved or car shut off. I use genuine apple cord, and have had issues with both iPhone 8 and iPhone 11. Seems slightly less common now with the 11. I often have to plug in 4-5 times in order to get one that takes. It hangs on loading or no connection. When it does this, phone is charging, so it has some connection, just not full connectivity. Long story with no solution, sorry. I have considered trying a different dealership many times, but never find the time to act on it. My wife has a 2017 crv, and has issues as well, not as bad as mine. She has iPhone 7.

Thanks. Well, in my case, it has worked just fine till today so I’m guessing it’s the update. I am seriously thinking of switching to Android if it continues, since the 6 is so old!

Whenever the iPhone establishes a bluetooth or WiFi connection with another device, a profile gets built and saved. Occasionally said profile can get corrupted, in which case the best solution is to delete the profile and re-pair the devices.

Have you tried that?

I think I did? Is that something I do with the iPhone or in the car? I did remove the car from the CarPlay app on the phone. Also, does a Honda dealer need to do something on their end for the update?

it’s something I would do on both the iPhone and the car.

IPhone:

1. Settings>Bluetooth, look in My Devices, find your car, hit the circled i on the right and choose “Forget This Device”

2. Settings>General>CarPlay, look in My Cars, find your car, hit the > arrow, choose "Forget This Car"

3. As a backup, go into your car, start it, go into Settings>WiFi, look for your car. If you see it there, choose the circled i on the right and choose "Forget This Network".

Car:

Sadly I don't have a Honda, but you just need to remove the profile for your iPhone under "bluetooth" or 'media".

Once you have done all of those things, try pairing your device to your car again as well as whatever other steps you need to take for Apple Car Play.

EDIT: Also, this assumes you're accessing Apple CarPlay via wireless, not wired. In either case, you should take a look at this:

Thank you! I will try. I do have USB for it, though.

I have an iPhone 6 and a 2017 Honda Civic, and whenever I’ve had cord connection issues, they have usually been cleared up by cleaning dust/dirt out of the lightning port on the phone. Once a year or every 18 months or so seems to do the trick.

I usually leave Bluetooth off on my phone, so perhaps it’s possible that the car is getting confused by dueling connection profiles? Does turning off Bluetooth on the phone help at all?
