Looking for some upside in the top nine. This guy was picked at #14 by the flyers and put up an outstanding rookie year at BU before signing with the flyers. This year he put up 21 points in 50 games while being mostly lost. He's very fast and very shifty and will grow into that 3rd line LW. We move Saad over to the right to accomodate.

LW- Joel Farabee - Philadelphia Flyers

Fiala (3.0)-Barkov (5.9)-Meier (6.0)
Kreider (4.6)-Larkin (6.1)-Reinhart (3.65)
Farabee (.925) -Schmaltz (5.8)-Saad ($6)

Hedman (7.87) - Spurgeon ($7.57)
Reilly (5.0)-Dumba (6)
Xxx-xxx

Carter Hart (.730)

Cap number - $69.145
remaining space - $12.36
Roster spots remaining - 6

I think this is a real value pick this late in the draft. He is smart and versatile, can play from 2nd to 4th line, can play on the PP or PK. I think his best hockey is ahead of him being only 26 years old. This rounds out a pretty talented 3rd line for my team.

I was going to take him for sentimental reasons. I still love the big fella.
No doubt. The fact that he is a total hockey nerd and can bang off stats on just about anyone at any time makes him as unique a guy as we've had in Boston.

Time to add some more youth. This kid hasn't shown all that much in the show, but he'd be seeing regular NHL time in most organizations. Good size with a sandpaper game, and his most important qualification: the AHL leader in PIMS. Perfectly suited for a bottom 6 role on this team. The Cup Checks select Trent Frederic, C

Between here and everywhere.
Hmmmmmm.

Do I continue to build out my offense, or do I add some veteran depth to my D?

Veteran depth it is. At 29 years old he's going to be the oldest player on the team, but I'd like someone to develop my younger D and as a 3rd pair guy - it's hard to go wrong with a two time all-star. He'll also be a great addition on the PP.

Tyson Barrie, RD, TOR

Alex Debrincat (5.1) /Elias Pettersson (925) / Mitch Marner (10.893)
Max Domi (3.150) / Charlie Coyle (5.25) / Jake Virtanen (1.250)
Rob Thomas (894)

Brandon Carlo (2.85) / Thomas Chabot (8.0)
Hampus Lindholm (5.205) / Esa Lindell (5.8)

Just as a point of clarification--- I've seen this listed both ways on different people's recaps. Are we doing 4 Olines. 3 Dlines. 2G? Or 3/3/2? Not that it matters for "I've Fallen and Can't Get Up". Just curiosity that TRs above post re-inspired.

I don't really like taking another LW, but I do like Warren Foegele. Someone will be on their off wing before this is through I'd guess.

Still lots of ways to go but we'll fill out our third line for now (subject to adjustment) with someone who is off a bit from last season but a lot of that is due to his team collapsing this year. Should be good for about 30 ES points per season while still only 24 years old. Very low cap hit for this season (due to his decision) but he's a RFA so we'll continue to keep some dry powder in reserve and perhaps fill out the roster with some more higher price veterans.

Sorry for the delay. Filling out my 3rd line - most of my forwards are on the wrong side of 30, so going with a much younger player who's good for 30 points a year in his first 3 seasons.

Ever since picking Elias Lindholm, I have considered making him my 3C. Being able to roll MacKinnon, Couturier, and Lindholm centered lines is a helluva task for any opposing squad to match up against. At the same time, I wanted to be able to put elite offensive talent next to MacKinnon, as I expect to start him at least 60% of his shifts in the offensive zone so his linemates need to really put the biscuit in the basket. I had considered taking this guy multiple rounds ago with this exact intent, and with him still available at this late juncture I'm going to pull the trigger. Possessing one of the most lethal shots in the NHL, this young winger was on a 30 goal pace as a rookie on a really bad team. He'll play with MacKinnon and Dadonov both at ES and on the PP, and I expect that trio to pour in quite a lot of goals. Jeremy Jacobs' Penny Pinchers select Victor Olofsson, RW.

With Olofsson on the top line, the 2nd line remains unchanged, and will remain a defensively oriented unit that can also apply high end offensive pressure, a la the Bruins during the "Bergeron as 2C" era. The huge upgrade comes on the third line, which with Lindholm in place suddenly becomes another significant two-way threat. Lindholm and Hyman are both plus defenders, and moved to RW, Suzuki faces reduced defensive responsibilities while still being paired with two players who are capable of taking advantage of his prodigious playmaking abilities. With the offensive capabilities of the top three lines, the Penny Pinchers will be able to focus on grinding, defensive oriented players for the 4th line without much concern for them doing much more.

Nearing the end of our draft, it's time to address the 4th line a little. With that MikeMikeMike! chooses:

Michael Amadio, C. At 24, Amadio brings a little bit of youth and uncertainty. He has decent AHL numbers that, so far, haven't really translated into the NHL. But that's ok for a 4th liner. A 24 year old with some size is worth a 3742346t2376th round flier!
Michael McCarron, LW. Yeah, it's time for a goon. But more of a "modern NHL" goon? At 25 he's 6' 6" and 232 LBS so he's got some serious heft to him. His PIM numbers throughout his junior/minor league career were eye popping (121 PIM in 54 games with the Laval Rocket in 2017-2018), but he seems like a goon that can actually score a little.

Mike Hoffman - Mika Zibanejad - Mikael Granlund
Michael Frolik - Mikko Koivu - Michael Rasmussen
Michael McCarron - Mikael Backlund - Mikkel Boedker

Need a goalie finally, so taking Jusse Saros, G. This guy is only 25, so plenty of years ahead of him. Has started to take more games away from Rinne (though not sure if injury related) and played well this year. Have a good d-core ahead of him as he's used to, so that should help as well.

I'd originally taken this guy off my list because of his salary, but at this point I feel I have to take him. The #1 defenseman on one of the better teams in the league, an all-around threat who can both play against an opponent's top line and lead the attack, this guy will take some of the stress of Dahlin defensively while further solidifying the offensive firepower of the top unit. I guess it's the fact that he plays for Vegas that has kept him off a lot of radars in this draft, but the Penny Pinchers are happy to select: Nate Schmidt, D

Now I just need one of three guys to fall for my last defense spot...

Evgenii Dadonov (31) - Nate MacKinnon (24) - Victor Olofsson (24)

Let's get some veteran leadership on the D core, he should have at least 1 or 2 years left in him and he's basically a lock for 40-50 points and good physical defense. He's a stupidly consistent and underrated career. I'll pair him with Dumoulin and pop DeAngelo down to the 3rd pairing with Orlov.

The pickings are getting a little slim but we found a terrific all situations defenseman stuck on a really bad team. He's 26 and can move the puck well but his main job is helping control play and keeping pucks out of his net. As of now he'll slot on the third pair but can play up and down the line. And we have a little cash in our pocket to make this work.

I'm going to roll the dice on a 19 year old with some serious offensive upside. His D is developing, but from what I've read/seen, he's got the head to figure out how to adopt his game to be a solid top 4 guy + PP. Adam Boqvist.
