Michael Crabtree was supposed to be a key part of my offense. Then he tore his Achilles. Hopefully he can have a Suggs-esque recovery, but I'm going to add some receiver depth just in case. One important role that Crabtree was going to fill was my slot receiver. As a reasonably tall dude (6'1") with a lot of strength, he doesn't look like a typical Welker-ish slot man, but he spent 35% of his time there and was the most efficient slot player in the league per PFF, with 3.66 yards per route run. Sigh. Hopefully he can return for the stretch run. In the meantime, the Cleveland Ravens will add a more traditional slot man:

WR Jason Avant, Eagles

Avant isn't a star but he's a consistent producer, logging between 41 and 53 catches and between 573 and 679 yards each of the last four seasons. He's incredibly sure-handed - per PFF he was the only player in the league last year with 20+ catches and 0 drops - he can block, and he's a savvy veteran route-runner. Basically, his strengths and weaknesses are the opposite of Jacoby Jones, so I plan to mix-and-match those guys both before and after Crabtree's recovery. I almost took him instead of Jones late in the regular draft, so I'm pretty excited he's still here now.

EDIT: SSF PM'd

Could be a flash in the pan, or could finally show the potential as the former #3 recruit coming out of HS.

Seoul Steelers continue to add versatility in the backfield with tonight's PS star (oxymoron?):

RB, Michael Ford

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmB6OOAB1FI

Coming out of LSU, where he had a good senior year, Ford has been a surprise in the Bears camp. Tonight he had some spectacular runs, and actually vying for the top return job competing with Devin Hester.

In other words, he goes 100 yards in a KO return in a highlight reel play.

He'll also spell Spiller and keep CJ's touches under 280 for the year.

Welcome to the Steel Nation, Mr. Ford.

P.S. JB skipped, Turrable PM'd.

I need a guard because of injury, so why not pick a guard who will miss the first couple games?

I guess I'm up.

With Maclin going down for the season, I can't really run an offense with just two WRs who also happen to be rookies. So, I will take a second year player to be the vet in this new trio and hope for the best from his Achilles surgery:

DeVier Posey, WR, HOU

Thank God for the Patriots bias, because Logan Ryan going before William Gay is madness.

Patriots bias yes, but Gay would've been the oldest guy on my team.

We're not deducting points for having players older than 25 here. William Gay is better than Logan Ryan.

However, it will not be the most egregious of the Patriots Bias examples by the time we're done with this little exercise. Someone's gonna take REDACTED and it's gonna be hilarious.

I wasn't trying to suggest that Ryan was better, just a better fit for my team. Gay may be the better player right now, but I didn't build a GFIN team. It wouldn't make much sense for me to start drafting 28+ yr olds in the supplemental draft when I steered clear of them in the regular draft.

I need some depth in my LB corps given how late I drafted there. I'll continue the trend of Patriots bias and selecy LB Dane Fletcher.

Fletcher is a solid back-up, and should be able to fill some holes in the LB corps, as Vilma is old and not very good, and Minter has been uneven thus far in camp. Fletcher has graded out as the 5th best ILB throughout the preseason by PFF, and it matches what my eyes have told me watching through the Pats games. He's been playing pretty well. Not sure how much playing time he'll get in NE, but I think he's a solid back-up to have, and glad to bolster the position here.

I'll PM MMS.

Well since I dogged on Menelik Watson last week and he just became the starting LT of the Oakland Raiders I'll continue this strategy.

Blidi-Wreh Wilson has been unable to play his way into the Titans starting roster. The Titans are pretty deep at corner so it's going to be tough to pass McCourty & Verner, but I'd hoped he'd get some outside corner work when in Nickel with Verner in the slot. He's fallen down their depth chart so he needs to drop down mine.

The San Francisco 49ers select: CB, Phillip Adams

He's played his ass off this preseason, taken the starting job in Oakland and looks to be a possible star on the rise. 3rd year player who will hopefully take a step to the next level. You can never have too many d-backs so hopefully with Grimes, Adams, and Arrington I can drop Wilson to the bench and give him some time to develop.

Charles Godfrey, FS, Carolina

With Kerry Rhodes still on the street, we're drafting a guy who can play CB, SS and FS.  A CB at the University of Iowa, Godfrey came into the NFL and was a starter Day 1 at FS for Carolina.  He moved to SS his third season, and was a starter at SS for Carolina until this offseason, when he was moved back to FS.

While at Iowa, he tallied 25 starts at CB, and racked up 7 picks over his junior and senior seasons.

Given his versatility, he is a good fit for our needs.  He is also the first player that we have drafted in that draft that we drafted in the first RFP draft.

Good pick.  I really like the way your offense came together.  Osemele is a disaster though.

Guys just getting back here after a few days away. Completely forgot about this, apologies. I'll get caught up as soon as I can. Continue along without me in the meantime. Feel free to skip straight through going forward. Maybe give me an hour.

Hoo-hoo-hoo hoosier land.
Colts select DE/OLB Caesar Rayford.

This is admittedly a lottery ticket. He's a 27-year-old whose spent the last three seasons in the Arena League. He has tremendous size--6'7, 265, and has been a terror in the preseason. I like his chances of making the (real) Colts and becoming a force on third down. With Avril out of commission for the time being, we need help on the edge, and the veterans left aren't any great shakes.

Since our third WR, Ryan Swopes, has retired because his brain is pudding, we decided to draft another WR.

Aldrick Robinson, WR, Washington

The guy is fucking fast. He's also apparently tied up a spot on the Redskins roster. In limited action last year, he had 11 receptions for 237 yards. Yeah, that's a 21.5 YPC. When RG III was asked who had stood out the most to him early in training camp, his answer was Aldrick Robinson. He's performed well in preseason (100+ yards receiving for 16+ YPC), and may challenge for the X WR opposite Pierre Garcon. Here's a random quote from some dude about him on SB Nation:

http://www.hogshaven.com/2013/8/25/4656648/take-my-breath-away-aldrick-robinson

Say what you will about his size and lack of experience, but Aldrick Robinson showed again Saturday afternoon that he may be the best wide receiver next to Pierre Garcon that the Washington Redskins have.

The third year speedster from SMU showed the all-around skills that can make him a dangerous weapon in the NFL, and a top target for Robert Griffin come the regular season. He was targeted five times and had four receptions for 61 yards(a 15.3 YPC average)with a long of 21 yards. He was the main cog in the Redskins passing attack that saw 11 different players catch passes from Rex Grossman and Pat White. He consistently was able to gain separation from defensive backs, and although he was stopped after a few catches, he showed glimpses of how dangerous he can be in the open field. The thought of what Robinson may be able to do with Griffin or Cousins throwing him the ball for an entire game is really exciting.

The practice reports have been even more glowing as Aldrick has been repeatedly abusing any defensive back he's faced.

WR depth is obviously thin at this point in the draft. Just glad to have someone who's brains aren't leaking out of his ears.

No worries.  I'll take Daryn Colledge, G, Arizona

He'll be replacing teammate Jonathan Cooper, out for the year with a broken leg.  Ugh.

Since the Chargers have one QB with shaky accuracy that can run, why not make it two?

Terrelle Pryor, QB

With a bunch of players on my team with torn ACL's (which I believe is three at the moment) I have enough rounds left to fill those areas.  I'm taking a lottery ticket since you need a QB to win anyway.

BSJ took him as a WR or something in the regular draft.

And has to use him as a WR...not a QB. Same for OFT & Tebow. They aren't eligible to play QB in the RFP based on when & where they were picked.

Otherwise, that whole "backup QB?" discussion and vote was a waste of time and I would have been better off drafting Kirk Cousins (aka, The (Potentially) Greatest Trash Talk Weapon Against phragle Ever) as a DT in round 12 like I wanted to do.

Take two...

Spencer Paysinger, OLB

So long to Terrelle Pryor so the Chargers will add depth to their weak LB corps.  A first year starter for the Giants this season, who seem to have three different linebackers each year.

We've got 2 rookies currently penciled in at OG and one of them (L. Warford) is currently #3 on DET's depth chart, so I wanted to add some depth to our interior line.

With our next pick, the Jnai Dolphins will take 2nd year G Brandon Brooks

He's the front runner for the Texans starting RG spot thanks to a strong camp and preseason. Last year he was the heaviest OL they had in camp and his lack of stamina was pretty clear. He's dropped 25 pounds since last year, which has allowed his natural athleticism and quickness to show up, and he's had some strong showings in camp vs JJ Watt. He'll be our starting RG paving the way for Trent Richardson.

Since Tharold Simon looks to be going on the PUP list, I'll need another nickel back and I'll step up for a guy whose a #4 on his current team, but might start on some teams (Buffalo, I am looking at you).  The Seattle Seahawks select Walter Thurmond V (III sir) III, CB.
