Otherwise, that whole "backup QB?" discussion and vote was a waste of time and I would have been better off drafting Kirk Cousins (aka, The (Potentially) Greatest Trash Talk Weapon Against phragle Ever) as a DT in round 12 like I wanted to do.
I drafted him as a utiity player not a WR with the understanding that he will be a little bt of a lot of things. QB is part of it but, barring injury, 90% of his playing time will be as a WR or RB.

Hey guys, I won't be around my computer much during the day tomorrow.  Please skip me and I'll make my picks tomorrow night.

edit:  actually, I guess I'll just send a few picks to Proxy before I go to bed.

To insure that your puny defense has even less of a chance against my ZR rushing attack?

Coach, what's the play?

Who gives a shit? We're up by 40.

Since Laddie's clock appears to have expired, we will be selecting Quintin Demps, Safety. Quintin provides us solid insurance should Eric Berry go down, and should be of help in the return game. He's looked pretty good in the preseason so far, so we're excited to have him. Also, since Proxy has Dollar's picks, I'm not going to bother PMing him.

What could you possibly be swamped with? Too busy mashing up Blurred Lines with Spill the Wine?

Your life is a mystery to me.

If he is going to be the next Calvin Harris, he needs to put in the hours.

Plus, who else is going to DJ all the GW frat parties this Labor Day weekend?

Um, no. QB is not a part of it. We were not allowed to draft more than 1 QB in the regular phase of this draft, making Pryor ineligible to play QB for your team. He's 100% a WR or a RB. He's 0% a QB. You will need to draft another QB if you want a backup.

I don't agree with this. BSJ made the Pryor pick in good faith to use him as a "weapon" rather than a QB, but part of his skill set is an ability to throw the football. If he's used for occasional trick plays as a thrower, or even a backup if Luck gets hurt, I see that as within both the letter and spirit of the rules.

Saints select TE Julius Thomas

Witten is great, and should have a few more elite years left, but Thomas has a chance to be a great TE in his own right.  He's a converted basketball player, with Antonio Gates-esque athleticism (and injury-proneness, battling injuries in each of his first two seasons).  He has 4 catches in each of the Bronco's preseason games so far, and has a chance to win the starting TE job.  Alex Smith doesn't like WRs, so featuring two TEs will give him another target, and at 6'5" he has a good chance of hitting that target.

So why did we have a discussion and a vote and a decision that we could only draft one QB?

I should have taken Kirk Cousins as a DB like I wanted to. I'm done after this post but I'm on record as saying this is shitty and violates the rules we all operated under. Pryor (and Tebow) should not be eligible to play QB because they were drafted in the regular phase when 1 QB was the rule and they are listed as WR or P or whatever.

I would really like to find a way to get angry and argue about this - it's what Al would have wanted - but I just can't. I just can't care any less. If there was ever a situation where Tebow had to take a snap at QB our season would be so royally fisted to the elbow that it just wouldn't matter.

As a result I think we should stick with the rule that tebow/pryor can't play QB. Or not. Don't care.

Josh Evans is listed as an ILB on your team; are you going to play him there?

Versatility is part of a player's skill set. We only have 1 LT spot, but my RG (Alex Boone) has played there in the past, and if Castonzo got hurt I'd move Boone over. Should I not be able to do that because I drafted Boone as a RG and not a tackle? I don't see much difference with Pryor. Cousins at DB is obviously a sham because you would never play him there. But Pryor as a WR / RB who can also play QB in a pinch or in a trick package is reasonable, IMO.

Tim Tebow as a punter kind of made a mockery of things, but it was OFT / Al Davis. And Tebow. And the last pick of the draft.

Now that I have a QB who can step in and play right away in addition to my rookie QB of the future - they need some serious help staying upright.  So I'm drafting Bruce Miller, FB and David Quessenberry, OL

Miller stars as a blocking FB for San Fran's power running game.  He's a hard hitting run blocker and a solid pass blocker.  He's hardly a receiving threat - but we don't want him doing that.  We want him knocking opposing players on their ass and keeping our QBs safe and paving the way for our running game.

David Quessenberry was a 6th round draft pick for the Texans out of San Jose St, where he was an All-WAC LT.  Relatively unheralded, D-Q has impressed so far at camp, and could be in the mix to earn a starting role this year.  He's earned praise for his motor and "mean streak".  Scouts were undecided as to whether D-Q. had the athleticism to stick at tackle in the NFL, and it's possible his best fit will be at guard.  We plan on relying on his experience at LT to use him as our OL utility knife this year, and we can reevaluate his best fit next year.

This is all about Tebow isn't it, 121?

Good picks Jose.  Any pick is a good pick if I have to cross them off my board.

Question, after Saturnian picks should I just proxy Dollar's other pick?  We haven't been doing it like that, but this needs to move along and he said he was going to be busy so?

Thanks to everybody who has been keeping us on track. The pace of picks has gotten a lot better in the last couple days.

Outstanding business:

1. Does anybody want to co-own Turrable's team or know anybody interested in doing so?

2. Titoschew and Mystic Merlin, who were both online this afternoon, need to make their picks.

You know...back when Matt Flynn was the QB and Pryor was just that, a utility knife with an arm? Never intended on him being the QB...in fact, neither did the Raiders. But then, over the past couple months, he has become more QB and less utility type.

This is my original post from that thread.

RealFantasy Pigskin 2013: Draft and Discussion

Posted by bsj on 26 April 2013 - 10:02 AM in Blinded by the Lombardis: Patriots Forum

Terrelle Pryor, Util/Slash

I dont know what I am going to do with him, but he's a ridiculous athlete and I want him as a slash threat....I think he adds a dynamic element to the offense that, coupled with the more traditional QB play of Andrew Luck, could make this team extremely hard to defense.

I see a lot of spread formations. I have no need for a traditional fullback. Frankly, no need for a traditional backup QB either.

But...I see him on the field for 90% of his reps as a multipurpose offense threat in the backfield or split out...rarely under center...

This is the same language I used above, and it was fine for everyone then.

So look...he's going to do a lot of things on the field for me. I wont call Pryor a QB. I have a QB I like a lot, and I dont plan on changing that. But if he gets hurt, I'll have an open competition among my skill players and the one who seems to be able to handle the position capably and we will go with that guy in a new hybrid XB.

Miller is a good pick, Sleepy. I seriously considered him when I picked Hynoski but the lack of catching ability turned me away. He's a hell of a blocker though. I think I remember reading he's an ex-LB.

Saints select WR Ace Sanders

A poor man's Tavon Austin, Ace will fit in as a good option in the slot, and help in the return game too.

Thanks.  I had Hynoski ranked slightly higher, and would have taken him instead here had you not.

I need receivers as 2 of my 3 original picks are currently unemployed...whoops.

Greg Salas, WR

I think he's not bad in a slot role, hopefully one of my other picks works out so he can be #3...

where the darn libs live
First, (edited out, I was wrong)

Second, with Jarvis Jones hurting to start the season, we will be taking another 4-3 OLB in Jonathan Casillas of the Bucs -- it's looking like he's gonna win the starting job out of camp, which is certainly exciting.  He's our SAM to start the year.
.

Third, since we're still down a WR (most likely), because of Alexanders knee injury, Jenkins..... shittiness, and that we're also starting Davone Bess in the slot with Thompkins on the outside, we're hoping to get a veteran to help out.  But they don't really exist.  So, another rookie.  He's the new darling among white people in Queens  and Jets beat reporters.

That's right, it's Ryan Spadola, WR!

Actually, we really like him a lot.  He's an All-American out of Lehigh who paid his way through college and was a walk-on.  He's been the best part of Jets camp -- not just the wideouts, but really their entire camp (damning with faint praise to be certain).  But this ain't no scrappy little white wideout -- he's 6'2" (or 6'3" depending on what you read), fitting into our plan to have big pass-catchers with sure hands.

Edit: someone actually took Spadola in an actual fantasy draft I was in last night.  Whoa.

Deep sleeper time, the Seattle Seahawks select Luke Willson, TE.  He's 6'5, 251 lbs and has a good set of hands.

Need to add some WR depth, so the Jnai Dolphins will add: TJ Graham

Graham gives our offense some much needed speed. He's currently competing with Marquise Goodwin for the #3 WR spot in Buffalo, but he'll be able to step in right away for us and give us a deep threat. He's prone to drops, but at this point, I'll take someone who can help stretch opposing defenses.

Asking this again.

I'm going to be flying in a few hours and then at a conference until late Sunday, so I'll have limited ability to check in here. If one of the other folks who can edit and record the picks can do that through this weekend, that would be great.

So with Stevie Brown tearing his ACL we need a replacement at FS.  The Chargers select:

Rodney McLeod, FS

He is battling Darian Stewart for the Rams starting FS job and seems to be the guy after Stewart's latest injury.  He is a smaller safety and more of a centerfield type of player, which is what we lost with Brown going down to injury.

The Bad?  He struggled last year with "the drops"

The Good?  He is apparently still walking upright, and hasnt murdered anyone recently (to my knowledge, anyway).

DAMN YOU

I need depth on OL the worst way, but Spadola is going to be a #2 on the Jets team. Yeah, #2 on the Jets team don't mean much but he's leading the team in catches all PS, but I'd take him over Edelman as a WR.
