With the seasons starting, I'm strongly in favor of people losing any picks they don't make by the start of the first game and getting replacement level JAGs to fill our their rosters.

That list is bullshit. I don't see Matt Barkley anywhere.  I deserve 2 of the top 10 worst QB's in the league, damn it!

But seriously, WHO'S UP?  I'm about to just start making picks to fill out my roster. I think we're at the point where we've skipped Tito and Ragnarok was PM'd last night at 8, so MMS is up?

There's a round and a half left?

The easy way to do this....if you really want to finish by Sunday (tonight isnt happening), is set a time...say 10pm tomorrow, at which people can fill out their roster with 1 (or 2 as appropriate) picks of their choice, first come, first served.

I'm completely fine with this idea.  I say we keep the draft going through tomorrow. If teams still need picks, we make Sat a first come, first served day to fill out your roster. If you don't fill out your team's roster by midnight on Sat, you get JAGs to fill out your roster.

Ryan Mallett, QB.

(Shopped btw)

I've been bullish on Mallett for a long time and his preseason only confirmed for me that this is a guy who can play at the NFL level.  I don't know whether he has the accuracy to ever be a top tier quarterback but I think he's easily as good as the bottom half to a third of the starting QBs in the league, which is a great thing to have in a backup.  What I find most impressive about Mallett is that he has a high football IQ and rarely makes a significant mental mistake.  I've given up on the Patriots getting significant draft pick compensation for him but I'm glad to have him around and think that he could have a nice career somewhere else in the future if given a real chance at a starting job.

PM sent to DoDM.

I'm amenable to something like this but I think we need to at least finish the 4th round, otherwise its unfair to the teams that haven't drafted in that round yet.

Well, thats why I would pretty much put them on notice that they have until tomorrow night to finish round 4...

I dont care either way, Im not in a huge rush, but if there are people who want to finish before the season starts (at least Sunday), fairly hard line needs to be drawn.

We've been operating from the beginning with the understanding that this might not get finished before the season starts.

I don't want it to drag much past the opening weekend but I don't see the imperative of starting before the season as important enough to change the rules midstream in ways that will fuck over some people and leave them unhappy.  Having round 5 be a free-for-all that starts at a set time and date sounds fine to me, letting some people take their time and draft normally in round 4 while other people can't, and potentially have to draft after other teams make their 5th round picks, seems unnecessary and unfair.

Lets just try to finish

I became a HUGE Mallett fan after watching all the crappy #2 QB play (and some #1 QB play) during pre-season. As far as #2 QB goes, Mallett is definitely a Lexus, if not a Bentley.

Schtick or serious?
Actually serious. There's always some unknown who bursts onto the scene in week 1; why reward people for dragging their feet?

It's bullshit. Make your picks or lose them.

Yup, you can do a lot worse than Ryan Mallett.  I just hope he gets a real chance to prove it (not with the Pats) someday.

Sorry guys been a busy week for me and I love doing my write up but I'd rather get this thing moving. Don't think he's been picked recently but I've just been skimming and the list is a bit outdated.

The San Francisco 49ers select: ILB, Jasper Brinkley

Jolpo Bartu, OLB

Need both LB depth and a starter at SLB.  I get both with Bartu.  Undrafted out of Texas State, Bartu impressed during camp with Atlanta and not only made the Falcons, but is expected to see a ton of time, especially in passing situations.  Excelled in coverage and he is expected to see significant time starting in Week 1 covering Jimmy Graham.  Has worked at both WLB and SLB, so he can back up Alec as well.  Our projected starter at SLB, Gerald Hodges, made Minnesota's roster but hasn't impressed the way Bartu has.

Duke Ihenacho, SS. You can never have too many DBs and while my starting SS hasn't gotten injured yet, with Polamalu its just a matter of time.  A 2012 UDFA, Nacho has been the talk of Broncos camp, making plays all over the field in practice and in the first preseason games, and by most accounts has all but won the starting SS job alongside Rahim Moore.  There's a lot of risk here as this guy has no track record when the games count but I consider it a decent gamble on a promising young safety that could payoff big down the line, especially as Polamalu gets injured or needs replacement.  I can also play him in a "big nickel" package alongside Weddle and Polamalu, a nice option given that my other nickel candidate, Darius Slay, has a very different skill set as a primarily outside CB.

Ragnarok PMed.

Nacho was making plays everywhere tonight, 12 tackles, 3 passes defensed, one tackle for loss.

Don't mind me if I (prematurely) pat myself on the back a little bit for this pick.

I'm really not trying to be all Al Davis on this, but the slowdown in picks is irritating. I think we need this wrapped up before Sunday, no?

Since RedOctober was PM'd yesterday around 4pm and hasn't made his pick, I'm guessing his time is up.  I'm PM'ing BoSoxFink to make a pick and keep this moving. He's on the clock.

I'm going to be gone camping this weekend. If we plan on doing a 'first come first serve free-for-all' this weekend can we try to come to a conclusion by the end of the day. This way I can PM someone my last pick.

Yup, you're right. I was going off the spreadsheet that still had BSF listed as owner. I'll send baka a PM now.

With Some Pick Late in the supplemental round the KCCs and Bakahump select

Mike James RB (Formerly) of the TB Bucs..

James gives me additional depth at RB.  Considering my passing game looks a little light and my OL strong I suspect we will be running alot...

MSF has been PM'd.

Can someone edit the spreadsheet to reflect the change in ownership?  Spend 1/2 a billion bucks acquiring a team at least they can change the name on the office door.

guys i am going to be very out of touch tomorrow and sunday. please feel free to skip me as this is already taking a agonizingly long time.

I'll try to check in at least once a day just in case a decision is made to fast track this and just let people finish their lineups first come first served.

I strongly endorse that. We should really have all picks made by Sunday at noon eastern, otherwise someone will tear an ACL, a no-name backup will be pressed into a starter role, etc... and that's just unfair to the people who actually made their picks. I suggest we go

1) First come first served, and
2) If you don't pick by Sunday noon eastern, you don't get the pick.

I could make 25 picks from my phone, drunk, and in an airplane over the atlantic, but you pussies can't make a pick from work?

Nate Potter, G/T, Cardinals

We really like our depth at tackle and we're OK with our guards, but this guy might be a starter for us at guard long term. Played tackle for the Cards last year, and they are now trying him at guard. 25 years old, good intangibles.

Cool.
