Chris Jones, P, Dallas Cowboys

Not much to say.  Not many options currently available on active rosters and Jones is middle of the road.  Murica's team FTW

Just to have a mentor for my young QBs, my selection is Chad Henne, QB

Plus it's a body I can't count on until one of my kids gets a shot for realz.

I changed my 1st round selection from Prince Shembo to Kline at the last minute, figuring that with the Mankins trade the was no way Kline would have lasted to the 2nd round.  Turns out Shembo didn't either.

However, our backup plan for our backup utility LB did make it back to us.  The Vikings are happy to draft Devon Kennard, LB.  A captain for USC, Kennard served as a utility knife for the Trojans, playing DE, ILB, and OLB during his tenure there, under several defensive systems.  While the constant change may have hampered his play and potentially his draft stock; it apparently served to get him ready for the mental rigors of adapting to the NFL.   With Jon Beason hurt and his replacement banged up, Kennard has gone from being seen as an physically overmatched reach of a 5th round pick to a 1st team starter at both MLB and SLB for the Giants.  The Giants have praised the rookie's football IQ, preparation, and ability to quickly pick up the responsibilities of various positions in their defensive schemes.  It's far too early to count on Kennard to be an above-average starter for the RFP Vikings, but at this point in the draft we're very happy to add a guy who we could reasonably use to backup any LB position in a pinch, and who appears set to get some serious 1st string PT under Coughlin.

I like this pick a lot. I actually believe Bradley (I know, I'm a sucker) and think he'll make Bortles wear the visor and carry a clipboard all season unless Henne gets hurt.

Bortles looked pretty good in the preseason when no one is doing anything but VANILLA on defense. The knock isn't the physical skills, its the game awareness, decision making and technical aspects. Instead of getting thrown in the deep end, the Jags seem to be doing the right thing here and letting the guy develop a bit.

COME ON PEOPLE! Season is about to start and at this rate we aren't getting an IR draft in before the season starts. Going to need you guys to step it up here.

PMs are a better way of shaming people. Not enough people check in to this thread on a regular basis.

This, BTW, is why MMS quit and why no one really wanted the job.

Truthfully....this whole thing got started without me even knowing. Im glad I got the PM and was able to research and make a pick fairly quickly. I thought we were done for a while...

Yup, this was our groups first attempt at the soxfan121 coined cat herding and it wasn't completely smooth.  We are doing what we can to make things go better for the future.

On that note, we're discussion shortening time limits since people are either paying attention and picking or not picking at all.  4 hours sound OK to everyone? I know we aren't voting on it but by the time we vote real week 2 will be over.

JerBear, you're doing a great job at herding the cats. Every new venture has some bumps and false starts along the way but I'm now confident that you guys know what needs to be done and will get it done.

WNW clock is up. PM sent to dmarsh

Edit: I'm now asking people to tell me if they know they won't be able to get a pick in within the 6 hour window so I can PM the next guy, so hopefully that helps move this along.

I need to have some more options with Ray Rice out for the first two weeks: Stepfan Taylor, RB, AZ

With no objections, lets cut the limit to 4 hours, weekends included.  We need to get this done.

Elcab, thanks for keeping up with this.  I'm on service calls most of the morning and early afternoon, will try to catch up when I'm back in the office around 4.  If by some miracle it makes it to my pick skip me immediately.

I'd say so. We have about half a round then the IR free for all, which should be awesome, to finish before at the max next Tuesday/Wednesday. Best case scenario we're done before Tuesday and we'd only be one week into the season.

We're going to take Vinston Painter, OT, Cleveland. Couldn't crack a great OL in Denver, maybe he'll get a look in Cleveland.

Are you losing faith in Kaep? Or just buying insurance?
Insurance. Cassel's a guy who can come in and do a competent job if Kaep tweaks something and has to miss a couple weeks. If I'd lost faith in CK7, I would have gone with a young guy (and would have taken a QB much earlier).

I'm on baby duty most of the day so skip me if it comes to me.  I'll get a pick up tonight after he's in bed.

Wasn't the plan to finish this supplemental draft before the season starts?  If so, can we just do a free-for-all from 11 AM-1:05 PM or something?  Or are we just going to extend it until all our absentee owners finally show up?  At this point the draft order isn't as important as getting it done on time, IMO.

I say we start now and make the Supp deadline tomorrow at 12:55 pm. Whoever misses their picks gets players designated by the comp committee. IR players have until Monday at 11:59 pm or else the same thing happens although in that case you tell the comp committee who you want to IR and they pick a player for you.

My thought has been that if the guys who haven't picked get a full slate of games to see what's out there then that's an unfair advantage over the people who have already picked. With the IR players, they're one year rentals so I don't think they mean as much.

I'm shocked that nobody else on this board has grabbed Brian Tyms.  Realistically, he's probably not the best pick I could make given the state of my team but it'll make following Tyms2Times that much more fun this year, so fuck it.

PM sent to SPDougie.

I was going to be all over Tyms if he was still there when I picked.  I guess I should have taken him last round.  Nice pick.

KFP and I are pretty swamped. We have one potential pick. We can add another very quickly.

NO.

If you want to do something SEND A PM TO EVERYONE SAYING "THIS IS WHAT IS BEING DONE".

It is not sufficient to say "we're starting at X" in this thread. There's about 10 of us who check this regularly - everyone else relies on PMs.

Send PMs if you want to do things like this to let everyone have the chance to contribute.

@Everyone - I'm getting pretty tired of repeating this. If you want to "run" this - do the basic thing and make sure everyone gets notification. PLEASE.

Aren't you a pick behind currently?  My pick will be up soon, pulling up spreadsheet now.

I second this.

The surest way to destroy this thing in the long term is to start changing rules on the fly in ways that disadvantage the more casual participants, who will then drop out or become further distanced from the whole thing.  If some people get to make their last pick having perhaps seen one additional game, no big deal.

I agree that we shouldn't change the rules as far as draft v FFA.  Shortening the time windows didn't seem to accomplish anything.  Shit happens.

Following teams have picks outstanding and all just received PMs:
bakahump - 2 picks outstanding
MarcSillivaFan - 2 picks
CaptainLaddie - 1 pick
Myt1 - 1 pick
SPDougie - 2 pick
KFP/SMU - 1 pick

SPDougie's clock is up.
Saturnian is on the clock and I'm about to send him a PM.
ElCab is on deck and also will receive a PM.

Fair enough. I had worked all day and It was pretty late when I wrote that and I had a few. Doesn't usually mix well. Carry on.

Edit: If ElCab gets a pick in soon, I'll be ready to go.
