His FG% is a staggering 73% while his FT is also staggering, but for a different reason - 46.7%.
Look at Wilt Chamberlain. In his 14 seasons, he had 6 with FT% below .500, including .380 when he was 31. DeAndre Jordan, who is still playing, has had a FT% below .500 for his career, including four years below .400. Some of the big guys just don't shoot well from the foul line.

He should try underhand. Wilt cracked 60% the year Rick Barry convinced him to do it. And at Tacko’s height it is especially difficult to put any arc on a regular shot.

Yao Ming was a career 83.3% FT shooter. Smits was at 77.3%. I've heard that arc argument but I don't buy it.

I agree more guys should try shooting underhanded but there's a stigma about it.

I'm also not sold on its being a panacea. There was a Celtics dude doing it in Summer League and his results were pretty meh.

I believe this may the gentleman to whom you are referring...

Of course Onuaku knew he would be made fun of, but after shooting a porous 46.7 percent from the free throw line his freshman season at Louisville...

...

His sample size for the Vipers was much larger as he attempted 177 free throws during the regular and postseason. Add the four free throws (he went 4-of-4) he took for the Rockets and he amassed 181 attempts to glean even more knowledge from. Onuaku’s percentage rose yet again to 72.4 percent. That means he’s been able to raise his efficiency almost 26 percentage points in two years of shooting underhand free throws

Only two baby Celtics in action tonight for the battling crustaceans. Waters had a good night in the Lobster victory.

Waters
37 minutes, 23 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals. He shot 9-16 and 2-6. But he also had 6 turnovers.

Langford
37 minutes, 11 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds. 4-11 and 1-6.

Fall and Edwards collected splinters for the Celtics tonight.

I'm actually OK with Romeo getting a lot of game-time to run some offense and shake off rust. He looked good at times defensively in the NBA, but if they're not going to run plays for him, better to get a lot of reps. Semi and Javonte are what they are to a much larger degree.

And the pinching-ways continue as Maine downs somebody we don't care about by a score of 110 to 103.

A pair of baby Celtics were in action:

Langford
33 minutes, 14 points, 1 rebound, 4 fouls...all on a very inefficient 4-12 and 1-3 three point shooting.

Waters
38 minutes, 21 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists on 8-18 and 2-6 shooting. Oh, and 2 steals

P. S. Maine's record now is 20 wins and 7 defeats, two games out of first place in the standings....in case you cared.

The team were the losing lobsters yesterday. Sigh.

Here is the latest report on the Celtics-in-waiting.

Waters
35 minutes, 12 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds, and 5 fouls. His shooting really did stink up the place as he went 4-17 and 0-9 from three point land.

Fall
17minutes, 12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks. He was a very efficient 6-6 from the field, but a stinky 0-4 on FT.

I'm not a Tacko stan, but he looked a lot more mobile on defense than I had seen prior.

After last night's game, Waters is at .436/.360/.792. 20.1 points, 7.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 3.5 TO, 2.3 steals in 33.9 minutes. 23 games.

The fact he can go for 4-17 and 0-9 from 3 and it doesn't completely kill his season line says a lot. For the year, hes 64-178 from 3.

1st year in college he was 72-205, .351
2nd year he struggled and was 56-171, .327.

He did hit 80.7% of his FT tho (221-274).

Outside of whether his game will adjust to the NBA, I think the biggest question on Waters was his 3 point shot. I'm not sure how 3 point % translate from the G league to the NBA tho. I'd imagine pretty well assuming they can get their shot off and if they can't... they probably aren't getting much of a chance anyway.

Yes he did. And his little hook shot is coming along rather well.

Having recently read an article on Thabeet’s (I know, I know) gleague dnp-cd’s/eventual release being largely due to it being a 6’8” and under league, that Tacko gets so much time seems encouraging alone.

Also makes his time in Maine seem particularly valuable, as his ability to survive vs wings will likely determine if he has a true nba future and he’s getting lots of practice.

Edwards
42 minutes, 41 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and shot 14-28 and 6-13. The star of the game.

Waters
34 minutes, 16 points, 2 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals. He was way more efficient than the game before as he shot 6-11 and 2-4.

If Edwards can shoot like he did last night on a fairly regular basis he will be a nice addition to the bench next year. The kid does have talent.

Another night means another pinching by the Fabulous Lobsters. A lopsided win 122-98.

Three baby Celtics were in the game and here are their stats.

Edwards
33 minutes, 22 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and shot 9-18 and 3-13 three pointers.

Waters
31 minutes, 14 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals. He shot 6-12 and 2-5 for three pointers.

Fall
23 minutes, 16 points, 18 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block. He also shot 9-10 and 0-1 FT. He is a double-double machine in Maine.

I think he's a volume shooter in the G-League, as he was at Purdue, but I expected his 3-point percentage to be better.

It was funny, but on a serious note, and I'm sure I speak for a few people here: Appreciate that you're following the box scores in Maine. There's a real need for that. In the Red Sox forum, Cuzzitt (did I get his screen name right?) does that for the minor league games. It's fun to see what the developmental players are doing.

Thanks Imbricus for the kind words. And, yes it is time for another update.

Well, last night the lovely lobsters lost as their level of play was not overly good. Sigh....against someone whom we really don't know or care about.

But on the bright side two baby Celtics were in action and here is what they did:

Waters
35 minutes, 16 points, 1 rebound, 8 assists, and 4 steals. He shot 7-19 and 0-6 from 3 point land. Not overly good.

Fall
21 minutes, 4 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 blocks. He shot 2-5 and 0-2 FT. Not overly good either.

For all you Tacko fans, on the season, Tacko is now averaging 13.7 points/game, 10.2 rebounds. But, he is shooting free throws at a 40.4% clip. Which is not overly.....well, you get the idea.

Not from this game, but for those eager for a Tacko fix, here you go. Scroll down a bit to see the videos.

While he still needs to operate close to the basket on offense, he has also developed a couple of offensive moves. He is getting better.

The Lobs pinched the living bejeezus out of some other team tonight, 121-83! The game was really not as close as the score would indicate and both sides really played ugly basketball tonight.

As for the baby Celtics, both Fall and Waters saw action, though not a lot since the deep, deep bench for the Lobs saw lots of action early on.

Waters
25 minutes, 9 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal. He shot 2-6 and 0-2 from 3 point land.

Fall
22 minutes, 8 points, 12 rebounds, with 4 blocks.

Another day, another update. The lovely Lobs are back to their winning ways as they pinched and squished the delightfully named Mad Ants, 123-119.

As for those of you who are curious about the baby Celts, here is how they did:

Fall
33 minutes, 12 points, 14 rebounds. He shot 5-9 and 1-1 FT! Baby steps on the FT. This may be the most minutes he has played for Maine. ON another note, Tacko had ZERO blocks, which may the first game that has happened.

Waters
36 minutes, 22 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists. He shot 9-16 and went 2-5 on 3 pointers. Better than his last few games.

I wonder if there's a point at which a player has gotten everything possible out of the G-League experience. If so, Waters might be approaching that.

Nice job by Tre, grabbing an all star spot (or the G League equivalent thereof). Wish he'd start hitting those threes more consistently. If he could knock those down at a league average rate, I think he'd do just fine in an NBA rotation, maybe next year or the year after.

Are the G League stats pages designed by Shadow? Who makes stats pages where you can't sort by clicking a column header?

How is Tacko not an AS? He's #2 in FG%, #7 in Rebounds, #3 in Blocks, and #1 in the hearts of fans.

Also just to push back a bit, Waters is only shooting 35.2% from 3 in the G league. He's also quite turnover prone. I think people are exaggerating his dominance. At the same time, I don't think he's getting anything from the G league but I thought that about him and Edwards since day 1.

Fall:
The improvements Fall is making in Maine are apparent, and it’s only a matter of time before it’s enough for him to earn himself a spot on an NBA bench.
Waters:
While he has looked a bit like a wild stallion in his brief NBA appearances, he is toying with defenses down at this level.

Actually, they aren't having an All-Star game this year (third year in a row) but name mid-season All-Stars anyways.

Not sure why the NBA doesn't want to have a G-League All-Star game. They could even have it on Monday or Tuesday after the NBA All-Star game so it wouldn't take attention away from the NBA All-Star game.

The Lobs pinched the bejeezus out of the College Park Skylarks, whoever and where ever the heck they are, 119 to 100. Go Lobs!!!

As for our adorable baby Celtics, here is the tale of the something...

Water
33 minutes, 18 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists. He shot 8-14 and 2-5 from 3 point land.

Fall
30 minutes, 14 points, 18 rebounds, and 5 blocks. That may be the most minutes he has played in a game so far. Impressive number to be sure. He shot 7-14 and 0-1 FT.

In a day game, our beloved Lobs lost to the Raptors, 109-116. Sob.

So how did our Celtics-to-be fare in this one? I am glad you asked.

Waters
40 minutes, 20 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists. His shooting a poor 7-21, but 4-10 from 3 point range.

Fall
30 minutes, 16 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots. His shooting is similar to his last game, 8-13 and 0-1 FT.

The increase in minutes for Tacko is nice. The team has to get an idea if he's worth keeping with 5 2020 draft picks. Plus Theis/TL/VP signed for next season. Roster crunch coming in the Summer of 2020

Semi, Wanamaker, Green, and VP are likely gone no matter what Tacko does the rest of the way (and, of course, there is the matter of Gordon Hayward, but that's a separate topic). Still, Tacko is going to have an uphill bottle to earn a roster spot in 2020.

Some of the picks will get rolled over/traded/or stashed, but we should expect change. I'm expecting a busy trade market this summer (quiet FA market)....but all of this is conjecture on my part.

Still interested in seeing what Tacko does over 30mpg in Maine

Feels like the main question for Tacko right now is offensive, not defensive. He'd probably be better than Kanter and Poirier already on D, just because he can make floaters so uncomfortable even in a drop. The problem is that on offense his lack of footspeed and lateral quickness leaves him in the wrong spot a lot, which is tough in the Celtics scheme, since he'd get in the way a lot.

probably too clumsy to pull off the Gortat screen/seal

really tough to envision him playing at NBA speed

the roster crunch and # of prospects/projects are making his Celtic odds skinny for 2021
