Red Sox 2022 Roster - for opening day and to keep up with moves during the season

I've never started a thread -- rarely even comment, mostly just read -- but I've been wanting a 2022 Roster thread (lots or roster discussion in other threads) and no one else started one. So here goes.

As of 12:07 am EDT on April 7, the Red Sox official website lists these players as Active Roster

My first question is how Josh Taylor made the cut. I thought he was injured. I guess things can change by Friday.

There are 16 pitchers and 12 position player on your list, and Cora suggested it was going to be 15/13 for Opening Day.

I expect Taylor goes to the IL and Shaw is added to the 28 and 40-man rosters sometime today to get that 15/13 ratio. Robles might find his way in there as well, maybe at Sawamura or Valdez's expense since they have options.

Someone will have to be DFAd before Shaw and/or Robles can be added to the 40. The first obvious choice is Garza but after that it's not easily apparent.

Once Robles is added to the 40-man, I’d imagine Danish spot on the roster could be at risk. So it might be a short stay in Boston for him.

One thing to keep in mind is that the new CBA limits the number of times a single player can be optioned in a season to 5. So they need to think ahead a bit on who they're going to swap out when.

But April moves this year evidently don’t count against that (I coincidentally read that somewhere last night, no idea where).

Danish is the new man, which might be a factor in why he was sent out. I didn't realize he still had an option, which is why I suggested it would be Sawamura or Valdez optioned.

I'm betting they hope Bazardo slides through waivers so they can hang on to him. He didn't perform all that well last year while missing time with injury, so maybe no one is interested.

Who else can play the outfield besides the DH, Martinez; who you can't put out there w/o making the pitcher bat? I see all of two games of MLB experience from the infielders (Shaw- 2). Maybe I'm missing something.

They have no clue that "hey, this is Jackie Bradley we're playing in right field, maybe we'll have to hit for him sometimes"?

COVID-IL players are temporarily removed from the 40-man. Somebody's getting DFA when all the COVID+ players come back.
