He’s been in Toronto for the past three years, and is from PA (although he went to HS and college in TX). I’m guessing the player opt out is not a direction the Sox wanted to go.I'm guessing that he really wanted to stay on the west coast and would not be surprised if he turned down a little more from somewhere else.
Yeah, total brain lock on my part. I still think of him as a Dodger. He’s been in Toronto for the past three years, and is from PA (although he went to HS and college in TX). I’m guessing the player opt out is not a direction the Sox wanted to go.
If you compare his contract to what the upper tier guys got, Betts, Judge, Lindor etc. then Freeman is a mid tier signing. In what world is Freddie Freeman a "mid-tier" guy?
I kind of think this is bingo. It’s Preller, the Rangers, Dombrowski and Cohen, and to some extent Cashman because of Judge specifically. That’s basically the same big-spending crew as last year.Maybe the FA market isn't completely insane. Maybe it's really just Preller and the Rangers splashing out outlier contracts.
This is to get Jensen on officially, I gatherHoy Park DFA, per Cotillo.
On the other hand, that’s 5 playoff teams, so how can that not be - in large part - the market, nevermind that the Giants also offered similar amounts.I kind of think this is bingo. It’s Preller, the Rangers, Dombrowski and Cohen, and to some extent Cashman because of Judge specifically. That’s basically the same big-spending crew as last year.
After that group, the Sox have already handed out the sixth-highest total contract dollars of teams this offseason ($137.5M).
I know free agency is far from over, but the options are dwindling and if the Sox end up as the 11th biggest spender given the money that came off the books and lack of deal with Xander, that's bad.I kind of think this is bingo. It’s Preller, the Rangers, Dombrowski and Cohen, and to some extent Cashman because of Judge specifically. That’s basically the same big-spending crew as last year.
After that group, the Sox have already handed out the sixth-highest total contract dollars of teams this offseason ($137.5M).
this - I have no faith hereI agree, which is why I don’t think it’s a legit rumor. I can’t see them going all in at this point.
and "Boston Strong" one step below thatJim Bowden is one step below "anonymous source".
I don’t know that that would really be going all in. Rodon should clearly be useful for some time and they’re likely not getting much out of Sale and need rotation help.I agree, which is why I don’t think it’s a legit rumor. I can’t see them going all in at this point.

Probably read the Bowden tweet and went from thereDon't give this a lot of credit either.... but saying similar here

This guy Marino Pepen always says something about the Red Sox and never nothing happens?Thats from 12/8
I've seen this movie beforeNOW: The #RedSox and #Yankees are disputed against Carlos Rodón. There are two teams slightly behind in the bidding...
Lol. It will come out Red Sox were interested. Heard that a lot this offseason.I've seen this movie before
With Boston's fan base, I'm not entirely sure. I mean, in 2021 the Sox got within two games of the WS, but a fair number of the fans I knew were still after Bloom's head. Thus the snark. Not to appease the fanbase, but to get better to win games. I would think that is the point.
SoSH really needs a like button.Jim Bowden is one step below "anonymous source".
I am pretty sure the Yankees second choice is giving Rodon more money.Partially Rodon, partially Eovaldi (Heyman)
Rodon remains the Yankees’ top priority despite the gap, and the sides are expected to work on potential compromises over the next few days. The Yankees believe Rodon wants to come to New York, but if they can’t bridge their difference, they may turn to their next choice, believed to be ex-Yankee Nate Eovaldi.

I am increasingly glad I live 3000 miles from the bulk of this fanbase.Short-term, high AAV contracts make sense when you're where the Sox are right now. You don't want to block your prospects, but you need to get better in order to appease the fanbase.
or not
Another source reached out and said that Harrison isn’t a Sox target just now. The plot thickens!
Depends if they think Arroyo can stay on the field. He's an average player, redundant if Arroyo is healthy, but miles better than the dregs they had to play at 2b last year when both Story and Arroyo were hurt. What can Josh Harrison do at this stage of his career that Christian Arroyo can't?
Harrison was 2.1 WAR in 2021 and 1.6 this year. Cotillo thought he had some info, reported it, and then retracted it when he heard otherwise. I don't see the issue.Cotillo is floating rumors that a guy who hasn't had a particularly noteworthy season since 2014 is "on their radar" & then retracting said nothing rumor...yikes.
Well, since you ask...What can Josh Harrison do at this stage of his career that Christian Arroyo can't?
