I'm gonna guess 2 year deal or big 2nd year buyout.

Bloom pretty desperate to improve the offense somehow.

One year would surprise me in this market, with at least some interest from other teams.

Edit: Just saw that it’s two, which makes sense and is fine with me.

Solid addition, good price.

The most surprising thing to me is realizing that Turner is 38. Would have guessed 34, tops.

If he opts out he had a very good year so that would be great.

22M guaranteed for Turner has a non zero chance of being a pretty big waste of $ but gotta get someone in here.

Solid deal; they needed a lefty masher and he certainly qualifies, although he’s certainly at the age where further decline is expected, but the dollars seem reasonable. Hopefully he’s competent at first base.

Opt out is weird, maybe it’s to protect the player who may not be 100% convinced in direction of team? Total speculation.

Good addition. Team needed a DH and fan favorite and a veteran presence. Hope he’s not cooked.
Ability to play D definitely worth the $1 AAV over JD

Probably know Bloom is desperate and in the realm of "why not ask"?

Never know what will happen in 12 months.

So the opt out is if he can't tolerate Boston and wants to finish career with a winner?

There’s no no-trade clause, right? We can move him Julynif we’re 30 games out?

I imagine he just got the option because he could and it helps the player for a variety of reasons (has a good year, doesn’t like Boston, etc).

IIRC, he almost signed with the Sox many years ago on a minor league deal but the Mets offered him a major league deal last minute

Very nice signing. Now everyone should chill out a minute.
I mean, does this really change the outlook of the team? It's nice we added a player, but I'd hardly call this an impact move. It's fine. I'd have the same reaction if they brought JD back.

Any concern he's one of those weird players who hits better when playing the field? 137 wRC+ in 66 games at 3b last year, 106 in 61 games at DH.

Still plenty of time to make more impact moves. But yeah, Turner and Yoshida should both lengthen the lineup considerably over JDM and JBJ/Pham.

What if Bloom’s strategy is to add a collection of good players rather than one impact move? Could that be a path toward fielding a playoff team?

Turner's (all-time) spray chart. Nice distribution.

I think he will enjoy hitting in Fenway. I also think this is a good piece for the infield, and now we turn our eyes to the rotation hopefully.

The new market inefficiency is apparently "guys who didn't take COVID seriously"

Where's the Michael Conforto signing, Chaim?
