Small point, but he really didn't have 5 pretty poor games in 2023 before surgery. He had 3 clean outings, one where he gave up a solo home run, and one bad outing, which happened to be his first of the season. I have no idea what he'll be like when he returns, but he seemed to come back from cancer relatively well.
I meant it more in the "he had 5 games the overall numbers for which were pretty poor", parsing single innings isn't valuable. The point was more, he has not shown any stretch of positive baseball since 2022, so just assuming he'll be a good closer option in 2025 is a big stretch

My thanks to all who responded with information about N-H lymphoma. My only experience with cancer was my brother-in-law fighting it for about 10 years before he passed away. He got hospitalized and seemed to recover, then get hospitalized again with cancer somewhere else in his body (not always the same type) and I really never understood how/why he kept bouncing back and forth.

And let's not dismiss the opportunity to improve the clubhouse culture. Every quote from players and coaches about Hendriks seems to include how great a guy he is, how funny he is, how hard working he is.
