Shocking. Media misquotes a player. SoSH overreacts to a player‘s misquote reacting in real time to change on his team. What would be the best case Bogaerts reply?
Kind of a weird correction “there are pieces leaving and some coming in”. Sounds like a nothing quote now.

This team had an 11% chance to make the playoffs before these moves. We now do not have an MLB caliber catcher and some are proclaiming the team is BETTER? How?

Guess there was no market for JD - surprising to me. Think we’d hear of that already.
I fully get these guys make more money than I will ever know to play a kids' game, but it really must be one hell of a rollercoaster to be in someone's shoes like J.D.'s at this time of the season. One could easily see it weighing on him this past week. Yes, it is a business for the folks in the suits, but seeing the clubhouse reaction to Vaz there's no question it has to be tough to deal with at times.

Can't wait to beat the Yankees with Reese. Can't wait to play with Hosmer. But yeah, he said nothing really.

MLB Network scroll describes Groome as the Sox's #11 prospect, for what it's worth. Every team values prospects differently, so it really doesn't matter, but the poster you're responding to isn't pulling that ranking from nowhere.
MLB also has the Sox as the #19 system in the majors which doesn’t fit in with a lot of peoples narrative, hence why we go with the #5 from
Fangraphs.

I think people need to take a step back. This year is disappointing, but you have to take a step back. When the sell thread was first created in April or May and prematurely closed, I was on board because I didn't think the Sox could make up the ground they were losing to the Yanks, Rays and Jays. I knew they would come out of it and certain players were going to start playing to their career norms, but given how good those three teams appeared to be I thought they were sunk. They manage to roar back and catch up to the Jays and Rays. Back in 2020 the rotation was decimated and all that was used to replace them was junk. This year our rotation was decimated and the Sox got positive contributions from Wacha, Winchowski, Houck, Whitlock and Crawford. That is amazing given that only three years have passed. I am not going to say that Bloom has not made mistakes, but I will say that what he has accomplished thus far has been really good. Good enough in fact for me to give him the benefit of the doubt this trade deadline. I don't mind losing Vazquez. He is probably heading for a three or four year deal and as much as a bunch of people just want Bloom to spend and keep aging players, it is probably not what is best for the club. Hosmer can actually catch the ball and allows the Sox to take time developing Casas. The prospects they got may or may not work out, but the way you become the dodgers is by discovering diamonds in the rough, developing players and making smart free agent signings.

Probably something about how much he hates Bloom. Maybe accusing John Henry of caring more about Liverpool. Throw in a joke about McGuire masturbating and he's got a SoSH deadline trifecta.

Julian McWilliams is the kind of Globe writer that cheap-ass John Henry is filling the paper with. We need an owner who keeps and pays QUALITY writers, but he just wants to make money on a daily newspaper.

Does Henry own the globe?

He can’t keep getting away with this.

Might be better at catcher defense now, plus definitely better at 1B and RF. I'm not sure they're better, but the argument is easy enough to make.

The Red Sox have now announced the Hosmer deal, but we still don't know *how much money* is coming with Hosmer. My guess is $35m.

That would be a great piece of information to keep quiet if you were planning on flipping Hosmer elsewhere.

Probably because they traded for another MLB caliber catcher (not as good as vaz, but not awful) and upgraded at the 2 positions of need people have been complaining that they haven't upgraded at yet. It may not all work out, but you can easily make the argument that they're just as good now as they were 24 hours ago, and have a better farm.

That we should be doing a happy dance that when we the Sox are behind one run Cora in his infinite wisdom can't bring in Diekman anymore.

I think that is it. It was not the most exciting trade deadline, but I am not unhappy with the results.

Seriously. Sox might be “better” but not enough to really do any damage.
So total lateral move IMO for ‘22 and very small forward step to use assets to make ‘23 better.

Barring any late breaking news, I think Bloom was the odd man out this year. Every piece he had of value seemed to be trumped by another team's offer, with the exception of Vázquez. Other teams may have just been using him as leverage since he was dealing from such a weak position.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
If that's it, I'd grade it a shoulder shrug.
Yeah, I was prepared to watch a team with a few key pieces elbow it's way into the post season. . .or a team that was going to try to develop some prospects over the summer.

Now I'm not really sure what I'm going to see. But if this is it, I can't say I'm particularly revved up for it.

The Hosmer fit at Fenway will be interesting.

And who knows, they may actually get a WC spot? Especially when Baltimore seems to have conceded.
