He put a significant emphasis on the word. Like someone who says it regularly. What a piece of trash.

The apple really didn't fall far from the tree in that family.

He may have, deservedly, gotten set up. He They know he was going to say something repulsive and turned on his mic a bit early

By someone who's a fan of the movie "A Face in the Crowd?" Excellent film, by the way.

Context is important.

Context will do him no favors. That was said like a guy with some anger in his heart.

Schilling deserves the crap that he gets ... but when was the last time anyone expected anything by ignorant arrogance from him?

Where was he referring to with that repugnant comment? Couldn't make it out on the clip. And as already alluded to , the BS, man of faith crap just adds gallons of insult to the injury. Who gives a shit about your alleged "faith"? A bigot's a bigot. And what a shock G38 comes to his defense. He really is every fucking idiot, middle aged white MAGA asshole epitomized. And, bye Thom.

Who was Thom speaking to? Because whoever was on the other end had probably heard this from Thom many, many times to the point where Thom felt very comfortable saying it to him/her. Hmmm...

I went to Ohio with Thom. Let's just say, once a tool always a tool.

More good news for the Scripps College of Communication... Roger Ailes, Matt Lauer, and now Thom. What a list!

"I'm a man of faith" is the kind of thing people say to try to excuse awful behavior, in much the same way that many men will say "I have daughters!" as a way to excuse sexism and misogyny. It's a useless phrase in this context.

Thom Brennaman has always been a dour, self-important, ill-informed commentator who got his big break through nepotism. I don't generally like speaking *too* ill about other commentators, but for him I'll make an exception - it's a happy day for me if I never have to hear him live on the air again.

Even better was that even his second thought was not used to apologize to the LGBTQ community, but that "wow my career may be over". Me me me...

What’s bizarre is, he’s got a headset on, his mic is open to somebody, likely a few dozen people at least. He’s ok with all of them hearing this, he just didn’t want it broadcast.

It is such a weird, bull shitty, hypocritical exercise in dumb-fuckery.

Here is what I think is supposed to be encoded in that claim, "I'm a man of faith":

I'm an asshole who has shit all over himself by saying something that clarifies that that I am a bigoted piece of garbage, but let me trot this out to say, "hey, I'm a Christian, I stand before the judgement of Christ and only ask for forgiveness in my weakness, and oh, BTW, I'm totally cool with all that shit in the Sermon on the Mount about judgement, but, what can I say, I'm a weak little prick, so, please see point #1."

But what a dick like Brenneman is also coding is something like this:

"Well, it couldn't be helped, I'm a man of faith which also means I'm really pretty hot on all that cherry picked shit in Leviticus, so, you know, I am what I am."

Exactly. If he had said something racist, it would have been, "but I have black friends!"

Gonna go out on a limb and guess that Thom doesn't roll with a lot of LGBTQ+ people in his social circles, so "but I'm a Christian" was the best he could come up with. Gjge.

Also, this. I've always hated Thom Brennaman. At least now I don't have to listen to him anymore.

Years ago I remember him ranting about something during a game (can't remember what it was) and thinking, what a jackass. Yup!
