Abs wrote a piece for the .com today highlighting the season that the 32 year old second baseman is having.

He’s played in 85 out of 87 games (maybe the most important factor as he’s battled injuries the past few years) and hit .304/.368/438 with eight home runs and 21 doubles. He’s also raised his walk rate from 8.9% last year to 9.3%, the highest it’s been since 2013. His K rate is pretty stable at 11.9%; it was 12.0% and 12.3% the past two seasons.

So what is different?
It's understandable that we overlooked him given the crazy season we've had so far, but it's good to look at what he's doing because we don't know how many seasons like this we'll get to see.

Really nice to see him healthy. Was watching clips of the 07 team the other day and what a baby he was, sort of like the cast that's around him now.

I'd like to see clustering luck / less grounder with Mookie on 1st
Yeah, I'd love them to be sending Mookie more in Dustin's early counts. He's getting GIDP in about a quarter of his opportunities; that seriously hurts.

Otherwise, it's been great to see him healthy and hitting better than he has in years.

He probably needs to string together 4 or 5 more seasons like this to get serious HOF consideration. Sandberg's career line was in line with Pedroia's career and current-year numbers, but Ryno had about 3,300 more plate appearances. Ryno also had a stellar defensive reputation* (9 Gold Gloves). And he's generally considered one of the weaker HOFers (at least among BBWAA-elected inductees), so he probably represents the floor for serious HOF consideration.

At age 32, the odds are against Pedey, but it's a testament to his excellence that it's even worth discussing Cooperstown in relation to his career.

* - I'm aware that Sandberg's actual defense probably wasn't as good as his defensive reputation, but he was considered the best defensive second baseman of his generation when the BBWAA voted on his candidacy. I assume Pedroia will be on equal footing here, even if he doesn't match Sandberg's nine Gold Gloves.
