I wonder if Roger has any say in these things? Nothing would make Portnoy happier than to get some mileage out of having the Bills say yes and then somehow get overturned.

I'm not sure the NFL can stop it. The Bills dont own the stadium as they lease it from Erie County.

Can't the NFL just do what FIFA/UEFA does, and ask the broadcast partners not refer to the stadiums by their branded names?

Clubs aren’t franchises. They don’t pay franchise fees to establish a club to National FAs/UEFA/FIFA. Franchises are equity partners in their league. The NFL would devalue the sponsorship rights of its partners by doing that. The franchises wouldn’t go along with that just to keep out Barstool.

The Winkelvii spent time trying to teach Portnoy about Bitcoin last week, he invested, and he's spent a lot of time since the shitting all over it as an investment, finally announcing yesterday or today that he had sold his crypto. Those guys have trouble picking business partners.

Between here and everywhere.
Ellie Schnitt (@holy_schnitt) just announced she was leaving Barstool.

She had been Twitter quiet, and her podcast (Schnitt talk) had become much less frequent since the racism accusations came out against Portnoy.

Ellie was a big get for them at the time, and I have to imagine part of her leaving was because of Barstools “brand” and almost anti-social justice stance.

In her goodbye tweet, she specifically thanks her co-workers, but not Dave or Erika. Which is..interesting.

Minihane's "fans" really made things miserable for her for awhile. I think she was trying to raise money for bail for people who were arrested during protests. And Kirk really went after her and in turn, his listeners just flooded her twitter.

I’m really interested if more will come out about Nardini. She’s kind of trumpeted as this great person yet the stuff I’ve heard about her on podcasts (specifically the Willie Colon one after the video of Portnoy dropping n bombs) she seems like a more buttoned up/PC version of Portnoy.

Carrabis and Hubbs are the only bearable people there IMO. I check it for baseball and that’s it. Too many garbage people there, though I admit I could be missing out by not following Big Cat or PFTC.

Carrabis and Hubbs are truly unbearable, I'm shocked anyone actually likes them

carrabis's act is cleanly divided into two parts, ultimate red sox homer, and troll to everything new york baseball. if i wasn't a boston fan his content would be unwatchable for me

He‘s an Unbiased Journalist™️, though. If I were like a Marlins fan I’d probably have no interest either to be fair.

I’m a Red Sox fan and Carrabis is insufferable.

He’s essentially everything you hate about stereotypical Yankee fans in Boston form.

Do we know how much of the money is coming from Barstool and it's employees as opposed to raised from outside donors?

It's a good thing being done, but the original post made me think it was internal money funding this. I did not listen to the 5+ minute video, I went strictly off of their caption

Portnoy / Barstool put up $500,000 initially.

Eh, fuck Portnoy. It's nice he's putting some money forward, but it's dipshit, meathead bros like him that are responsible for our country being the mess that it is with COVID.

I’m on my phone so can’t link everything - but this one should provide evidence of tweets -

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/dave-portnoys-rant-against-the-insanity-of-new-york-politicians-leads-to-the-promise-of-cash-for-ailing-restaurant-workers-11607879308
it looks like the fund was started after someone told portnoy to put up or shut up after he posted a long video diatribe ripping NY politicians for shutting down indoor dining again. And telling old people to be safe and wait for vaccine, otherwise don’t let the government decide how to live your life. It’s great that he’s doing this...but he’s definitely also part of the problem.

I agree with him. I don’t live in fear. If you live in fear stay home. Let these businesses remain open because we know the government hasn’t done shit for them except line the pockets of the likes of Amazon and big box retailers.

It’s not about something asinine as “living in fear”. I know people that only go to the essential places and are very diligent with masks, etc. that have gotten the virus. I hate to see any restaurants go down but there’s been a lot of people who have lost their jobs in all aspects of society.

In the interests of full disclosure ...

This is a tricky subject, because the very existence of Barstool/Portnoy makes it difficult to know when to enforce the rules about "no politics outside of V&N." I would also add that jsinger121 has an established track record that tells me that any sort of discussion about his post is going to lead the entire thread off a cliff in short order.

The choices are to either ignore him, or, if you choose to engage, do so with the understanding that this segment of the conversation will likely be broken out and moved to V&N.

I’m happy to remove/edit my post as it was my link & commentary that seemed to set this off. I just thought it was important context for the fundraising he’s doing...but I leave myself to the mercy of the mods

Your post was fine, as is the rest of the discussion. I just wanted folks to understand the likely sequence of events if this becomes about politics.

And that's not a criticism, because it's hard to discuss the topic you raised without veering into that territory.

Thank you. Lots of horrible fucking people contribute to charities. It atones, not one bit, for the bile he has put out into the world, and profited greatly from.

I'm not a dipshit meathead bro and I enjoy Barstool, including a lot of Dave's content (which I firmly believe is an act, and have thought this for years; I think he's a brilliant marketer/salesman and I think that's really hard to argue with at this point given the Penn deal).

I might be oblivious because I'm older now, but is that still really the target demo?

"I believe it's all an act" is one helluva interesting take. What else are you willing to let go so long as you think the person pushing it is just doing it for the lol's or money regardless of the greater consequences?

Alex Jones and Tucker Carlson have pleaded in court that they are acting out a persona for personal gain. I don't think that mitigates their repugnant contributions to society. Given that recent "Now It's Gonna Get Extremely Real" podcast name, I think he still angles hard to appeal to ignorant meatheads. I don't know a lot about that though, it was just another reason to never go back, for me.
