He’s not getting cut, and he’s not retiring. He’s going to catch a few more days of leather over this, then he returns to the field, and it’s largely forgotten in fairly short order. That’s not how I think it should go, but that’s how it will go.

I think you can count the number of posters who think he's getting cut on Dravecky's left hand
The Ballad of Dave Dravecky was one of the first baseball stories I heard, from the baseball card days. That and Elvis Presley’s third cousin in the Mets farm system.

Yeah, I’m under no such illusions myself, though I’m hoping there’s an outside chance Rodgers just Wally Pipped himself.

I’m also under no illusion that the league will do anything about this. Even though what he did is a hell of a lot more serious than being more probable than not generally aware of a concocted scheme, none of us are strangers to the league’s selective willingness to sweep things under the rug.

i hate that this is going to blow over, but it probably will.

Just a guess, but trying to become Jeopardy host and shilling for companies on television don’t seem to be about money. As you pointed out, he has plenty of it already. He clearly wants to be in the limelight—as many egomaniacs do. This blowup is likely to narrow his options for doing so upon retirement and so, yes, it’s not a stretch to imagine that this hurts his post-NFL career.
This, plus we've seen time and time again that those who have a lot of money never have enough. Everything's relative and people always have ambition.

He's obviously not getting cut. I think the only question is how much this hurts his image and off-field opportunities.

He's clearly leaving Green Bay after the season for one of the Florida teams, Atlanta, Carolina or New Orleans given his stance.

Who knows what would've happened, but with the way KC looked yesterday it seems likely that GB would've won if Rodgers played. So at a minimum he cost his team a win that will most likely impact playoff seeding.

It's a great piece and I know I should never click on the comments section of any website or blog, but my God, reading those comments....we are all doomed.
The comments sections are all filled with trolls. The only people who will respond are trolls who live online and live to troll because they are angry and they hate.

Needless to say, almost every comment section is deplorable. But I also don't think it's a broad representation of society. It's just like every other very loud minority we have to deal with today, which is to say they are getting all the oxygen and attention

Kareem has had a few good takedowns, including on Kyrie.

But where are the active players calling out Rodgers? There's been an awful lot of cowardice amongst sports leaders on this topic, which I think Kareem is getting at in referencing Kaepernick at the end.

My guess is that most of them are on his side empathy-wise, if not so stubborn as to not get vaccinated.

Lots of stuff over the past few years like this has made me think about how we look at history as mostly rational, and that we are at the apex of that rationality. I think ignorance, self-interest and humankind's propensity to violence is much more prevalent in our history - both long past and recent - than is rationality. We are more Children's Crusade than enlightened.

Getting pretty heavy Counselor Dexhart from Parks and Rec vibes here. The first interview was it coming out that he had four-way sex in a Brazilian cave while pretending to build houses for the underprivileged. This is where he defends it by saying it was his birthday, and he "really wanted to do it."

I really don't know how Rodgers comes back from this.

By leading the Packers to a 13-4 record while throwing 39 TDs and 5 picks. No one will care in January, unfortunately.

That's his best way forward, but there's no way he gets back to what his local and national profile was a month ago. That's gone for good now.
It's definitely taken a hit. But it's hard to say it's gone for good. Never say never, I guess. But I can't imagine he hasn't taken a hit, he's been getting crushed in many spots and he should be. He's shady and it is disappointing.

People here seem to think highly of McAfee. If he’s so great, why does he keep allowing Rodgers to come on his show and spout semi-dangerous lies?

On Rusillo's pod this morning, Trent Dilfer said he expected in the locker room, most players would love what Rodgers did. They're all sick and tired of the league and the union telling them what to do, and they'd further support his sticking it to the media. The coaches and the league may not be amused, but the players will be.

I'm afraid Dilfer's probably right.

I don't know, I would hope that the players who followed the protocol (vaccinated or unvaccinated) would be annoyed at him for being duplicitous about it. It's been said before but Kyrie is a space cadet but at least he owns it. Rodgers wanted to do whatever he wanted but not be held accountable for the decision.

I'm not saying the players are going to revolt or anything but in a sane world his credibility in the locker room would be damaged and he'd need to do at least a little work to rehabilitate it.

This might be the case for some players, but everything about the sport that is militaristic has been drilled into them since playing Pop Warner, and they generally have no problem following rules and orders. Others, however, know that the Giant Thumb of the Shield is on the scales in Rodgers's favor, and shitting on the league darling is a bad way to enhance your career prospects.

Few will care in a few months when Rodgers is on parade float with Mickey Mouse at DisneyWorld after he’s named Super Bowl MVP. He will get the label of “Controversial” when he retires and people write glowing articles of his life and career.

Yep.

Look at Tyreek Hill, Antonio Brown, etc. These are actually bad people who are feted weekly by breathless commentators who have decided the past is the past.

so just to be sure the only way they're ever actually going to take draft picks is if the team won a Super Bowl in recent years.

The league is stupid and every punishment is arbitrary

I'm sure that Aaron learned his lesson when he lost 14k. What a fucking joke. A game suspension should have been the minimum.

I am sure that is an agreed upon punishment for a first time offense in the agreement between NFLPA and the NFL. It's a pipe dream, just like any thoughts that Rogers will be "finished" by this whole thing. It sucks and I wish he had more punishment coming at him, but that is the rule the union brokered and that's the best we can hope for.

You're right, but the question is whether his violation of protocol for nine weeks constitutes repeat violations, which can subject a player to the penalties below per the NFL COVID agreement:

Repeat violations of the offenses listed above will subject players to increased discipline, including for conduct detrimental with a maximum fine amount equal to one week’s salary and/or suspension without pay for a period not to exceed four (4) weeks, as set forth in Article 42, Section 1(b)(xvii) of the March 15, 2020 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Why do y’all continue to be surprised and outraged by Covid protocol violations by athletes? Who gives a fuck what Aaron Rodgers thinks, says, or does regarding Covid? He’s not a smart person.

After the Dodgers won the World Series and that player who tested positive ran on the field, SoSH wanted the guy arrested. Nothing ever came of it and I don’t recall it starting a super spreader event.

When Tom Brady didn’t wear a mask on the podium he was the worst person in the world. Miraculously everyone around him survived.

Aaron Rodgers didn’t get vaccinated and immunized himself with some homeopathic bullshit. Whoopty-fucking-do. He proved to the world that he’s a moron, asshole, AND liar, but he’s still really good at throwing a football. The NFL then proved what we already knew - they are assholes who can’t be trusted to do anything right.

Like others have said, this will blow over as soon as he’s back on the field and leads them to victory. If he wins a Super Bowl he will be a legend to anti-vaxxers forever. The rest of us will remember him for who he is.
