Man, sad stuff. Definitely an OG SoSHer. Great job with the forum name.

Somewhere
This is reminding me of the days when Simmons’ friend in the Celtics organization would hook up the Port Cellar with some better-than-nosebleed tickets and we would gather at the (Fleetcenter?). Twenty years ago almost. Sheesh.

I wanted to share this tribute that Scott’s friend and former student posted on the other board for more people to know that Scott was much more than his Rocco persona.

Hey guys...I haven't posted here in a very long time, but heard from another friend the day after Scott passed. It dawned on me today to come over here and leave a long winded tribute post. Selfishly, it feels cathartic, but to call this devastating would be an understatement. Like many others, I lost touch with Z in recent years, but it never changed the way I felt about him. We first met when I was in 8th grade. 1995. He was the head coach of my basketball team, so before he became a friend I was most certainly his student. As a lifelong athlete, I had hundreds of coaches over the years. I can say (and am so happy I was able to tell him while he was here) that Scott was unequivocally the best I ever had. Not x's and o's bullshit, but a true motivator who taught me what was important. To this day, I vividly remember our first interaction: I was late to one of our first practices. I played hockey and basketball in the same seasons, which he loved, but it often created conflicts. Either way, I walked into the gym with my hat on backwards while polishing off the remnants of a sandwich. The whole team was running suicides as I looked on. Then came Scott. He marched his ass across the gym, dragged me out into the hallway and BLASTED me..."you walk into this gym like some sort of tough guy, wearing your hat like a fucking asshole and eating a steak and cheese sandwich while your teammates are working their asses off? Who the FUCK do you think you are? You have two choices. Go change into your shoes and run, or leave this gym and never come back". I ran that day. And I NEVER forgot that speech. We often laughed about it as he would've been fired had it been 20 years later. Fast forward to my high school hockey banquet in 2000. I wont the unsung hero award with one of my coaches telling a room full of people how I didn't miss a practice in 3 years of varsity hockey and ALWAYS practiced hard. The first person I called when I left that banquet was Scott. He won me that award 5 years earlier.

Later in life, we became true friends. We'd drink beers and watch hoop. We'd go to games. We even worked part time together at a liquor store. It was there that he told me he was having his daughter, Bianca. In true Z fashion he gave me a giant bro hug and told me he "snuck one past the goalie". My GOD were those fun times. I taught him about hockey (it fascinated him and he loved the high speed action), he taught me things about life. And sports. Always sports. Another favorite memory was one night at his place where 4 or 5 of us got into a HEATED late night argument about....Antoine Walker. Almost came to blows. Adriana woke up confused as all hell by the grown men in her living room screaming in each others' faces about Employee #8. I'm laughing through the tears as I type this.

Anways, enough rambling. Simply put, Scott Zwick was my friend and he had more of an impact on my life than he ever knew. He's a man I will always love and I'll miss him forever. I'll eat a log of my own shit if I ever forget what he meant to me. Rest easy big man.

Thank you for sharing. That's a beautiful tribute and says a lot about Scott. It also tracks with what we know of him here.

Wow...pretty sure Rocco predates SoSH - one of the originals that Lanternjaw rounded up when Fastball/DTFC were crumbling. This place most certainly is not what it is without his early contributions...very sad news.

This is awful. I never followed the NBA but that 08 Celtics run was a joy to follow because his posts - rarely has anyone displayed love, knowledge and passion for a franchise like those posts.

Condolences to those who knew him and to all his family and friends.

And an absolutely perfect username, for sure.

Hey guys! I spoke with Adriana today and without getting into too much detail publicly she would very much appreciate some assistance from us with funeral costs. If anyone has experience setting up a GoFundMe or similar please shoot me a PM to point me in the right direction otherwise I’ll begin researching this tonight and have something up once I figure it out.

Ok guys I created a GoFundMe page. No amount to donate is too small and let’s share this to help with the costs of Scott’s service. Mods, I don’t know our policy on sharing to other parts of the board so I’ll leave that up to you.

We had discussed doing something for his daughter, which we can still do later, however after speaking with his wife this is something that is more urgent. Thanks

Actually, pinning threads makes them less visible because eventually you just glaze over them.

Bumping them to the top is the way to keep them in sight.
You guys would know better than me. If you think that's the way to roll, please unpin it bud.

Wish we had access to his account. He would laugh his fvcking ass off if he saw that he bumped his own fundraiser to the top!!

Man, what an absolute bummer. Ugh. And just way too freakin' young ...

I didn't know Scott, but back in my most active forum days, his username was as recognizable as anyone's on the board. His contributions during the Celtics' title run were legendary.

To all who knew him well, I'm terribly sorry for your loss.

edit: I don't think threads work very well in the WM but thankfully the opener is preserved in this case. Idk if it exists somewhere in the SoSH archive aether as well.
That's a blast from the past.

I remember "I guess this is going to fail" coming up when he posted, and thinking, "what is 'this?' The Celtics? Red Sox? SoSH? Life?'

We're getting old, man. Almost half my life on this site.

Echoing this - his posts during that time were a treat to read. We had a brief exchange over PM about something or other a few years later (KG's knee not being right, I think?) and that was a pleasure as well.

Thanks for setting up the GoFundMe @HomeRunBaker

Donated. Spring of 2018 I lost a friend, Gary, he was close to the same age and also had a daughter. So this hits my heart.

My friend Gary and I never got down on David Price because we knew he was integral to winning the World Series. Though Gary wasn't alive to see it, Price's play in that playoff run validated his support.

I went to the services tonight. They were incredibly powerful and sad. I told Scott we all have experienced a tremendous loss and will truly miss him. I’m now drowning myself in tequila.

Before I become incoherent, I did want to pass along that Adriana (Scott’s wife) was incredibly thankful for all of your donations. You guys are amazing.

I love you, SoSH brothers and sisters. Thank you for the impact you have had on my life over the past 20 years.

Hug your loved ones. Tell them you love them.

Well. I hope Saint Peter is persuaded…

Would love to read the explanation (or any of his other classic posts) again, if anyone can track it down. Always appreciated his passion.

Sigh. RIP,, Rocco!
When Damny did, indeed, bring home the banner, Rocco posted that he would not be making good on his very famous promise because he had been drinking too much and would thereby be incapable of producing the necessary food stuff to accomplish the task.

Like, he gave a reason why he wouldn’t be doing it. That’s hysterical to me.

A Lost Time
I just saw this. This is so sad. 52 is way to young to go.

I don't think he had posted for more than 10 years and yet so many people remembered him. Definitely one of SOSH's OGs.

RIP.

We received a message today from Adriana and Bianca in response to the $5,921 that we raised to assist Scott’s family that I wanted to share. She asked that I share to make sure that she can thank everyone. Thank you everyone who contributed! Once again, THIS is what makes this board and this community so special.

Hello from Adriana and Bianca Zwick,
To say that we are stunned and humbled by the support shared by YOU and this community would be an understatement. And I won’t find the right words to express the depth of my gratitude to you for helping us in this way at a time that we are in need. Scott loved the blog communities that he was a part of and I believe he too is grateful to you for helping us. Your gift has provided both of us with just enough breathing room to move forward. On behalf of both of us (or maybe all three of us) THANK YOU! ❤
