Honestly I heard the interview, and maybe I need to listen again but I didn’t think he came across that badly. I definitely don’t agree with Fred that he was saying that we’d love him up here because he’s white, that part felt like a reach

So they just replayed it, I didn't have an issue with him until the "even you two" comment. Maybe I'm missing something, but I didn't find it nearly as bad as apparently everyone else. They mocked him for the rally, rightfully so and he made a shot back around a clankety barn or something, which seemed fair game. I'm in Fred's court on these 99% of the time, I didn't see this one.

He had borderline Jim Gray energy - like he was slumming it with the jokey morning guys as opposed to "Serious Sports Talk." Wallach's point about him being joyless was right.

Yeah, I thought he was pretty bad. Zero personality and seemed to take any minor poke at the Heat as a personal insult. If a Miami show asked Mike Gorman to name some Celtics players that they'd grow to hate over the series, he'd be able to rattle off 3-4 names while having some fun with it.

This guy was joyless and sensitive, as Wallach indicated; but nobody does joyless and sensitive (and neurotic) like Fred, so this was a bit of pot/kettle, imo. The cynic in me thinks Fred was looking for trouble so he could manufacture a similar storyline as the amusing Kyle Bailey/Hurricanes “beef” that carried T&R through the Bruins first round. (Although I do think Reid tried to play it too cute on Herro and was implying racism with his “he has all the criteria Celtics fans“ would love…)

Fred's trolling has now moved to the Celtics. Saying they would be better off with Oladipo instead of Smart...

Fred demonstrating immensely poor judgement by sending an email list of "all the things he's done" while his wife has been out of town. He's been more flaky than usual lately...

And basically aired out that he was announcing this, because his wife is yelling at him about the cleanliness of the house etc. Rich and Wallach tried to dissuade from this, but it sounds like it was too late. Just not a wise decision.

Now Fred thinks Tatum was faking his shoulder injury last night
Fred is just miserable when the Pats & Celts succeed. He will do whatever he can to not give them credit and minimize their accomplishments. Probably has something to do with his fandom of each sport. Jets and assuming the Pistons?

He is completely different when it comes to the Sox and Bruins. This morning he is not in a good mood about the Celts at all.

I think he's just in a funk and probably just talked himself into being sick of "green teamers" or whatever and wants to piss them off. Which I get because any fanbase can become annoying over time, but it's not what makes T&R good radio. The show works better without the hot takez Adam Jones/Felger approach.

Yeah, it wasn't great radio and it went on for like 5 minutes too long. It should have been a 60 second conversation that went on for 10 min. When Fred and Rich just dig their heels in and say the same thing over and over again until a commercial break is when they're at their worst radio. It doesn't happen a lot, but when it does it's bad.

I can take 5-10 awful radio in a 4 hour show because it is usually the exception as opposed to F&M where its 3:55 of a 4 hour show.

It is funny when Fred kicks off the show and it sounds like he just read this thread about his list. "People are saying" which means pretty much here or Twitter.

I think he was trolling. I shut it off after he said the phrase "writhing in pain" at least 15 times in 4 minutes. I am not exaggerating.
Ha, you are not exaggerating. It was every other thing out of his mouth. I do think it's funny that Brad basically hates their show and keeps not showing up week after week and that Fred's happy about it because the interview suck.

It's been bad all week. Iconoclast Fred is great. Troll Fred is not.

He's usually worse when he's broadcasting remote - he's not as engaged and the show suffers.

Fred REFUSED to give the Celtics defense any credit whatsoever. Just kept saying Miami missed open looks, which they absolutely did, they were horrendous shooting. But you can't even admit that the Celtics perimeter defense had any impact on that whatsoever?

Oh yeah, at the end of the day it’s usually pretty limited. I just tune out those segments. As you said, for a four hour show that’s a very good ratio.

Yeah he kinda made a comment about it yesterday too but it kinda went unnoticed. Said something about “a totally real shoulder injury”

Today’s Hour 1 of the show on Spotify tells me all I need to know: “Fred’s annoyed with Tatum”. Who gives a shit?? Skip

I don’t recall him ever being this negative and moody about the C’s though. He claims he’s not even a Pistons fan. This seems new to me. Even with the Pats, he didn’t become THIS much of a “hot take” guy until maybe a few years ago. It’s starting to make the show unlistenable as a whole. I don’t want or need 24/7 homerism. That is also awful radio. But this constant barrage of trolling on certain local sports teams is becoming a little much.

I'm wondering if part of it is the personalities of the Cs teams when he started on sports talk are a whole lot different than now. Initially it was Scal, Big Baby, KG's histrionics, etc. which were entertaining for Fred, even though he may have hated the Celtics as an organization. Currently the team is a lot more straight-laced without misfit toys. What passes for a fun dude is Grant Williams who just talks a mile a minute, with his teammates and coach seemingly wanting to smack him. (Outside looking in of course, day to day they may be a fun-loving group in the locker room.)

Similar to the Patriots: when they have personalities to have fun with like Merriweather and Aqib Talib, Fred's tone on the team changes considerably versus when there is no one to really engage with.

It seems his attitude changes wildly based on the personality of the team, regardless of the performance.

Beasley has a policy that COVID+ employees and/or close contacts have to stay out of the office/studio for 10 days. Fred said he'd be back next week.
Pretty sure Fred said he'd be back in-studio tomorrow on Wednesday... or remotely at the very least. Hopefully he's back in-studio.

It’s going to be great when Grant Williams becomes the new version of Draymond as the red chatterbox/agitator. Freddy’s respective hate and love for each is going to make for some good listening.

Fred simultaneously hating Grant's whining while Draymond runs all over the court after each whistle yelling at the ref.

I'm 100% with Wallach on wanting a ring. That'd be awesome to get a ring of the team you grew up rooting for as part (albeit a small part) of a championship season. Even if it's not worth $50k.

Love the guy that just called in and told Fred to shove it and then told Wallach to wrap the ring around his cock when he gets it and hit Fred with it.

The best part was Fred wasn't there and was taking a dump for like 10 min, so he heard it over the speakers in the office while taking a dump.
They don't take a ton of calls, but the show does have a pretty high hit rate on those they do. Some of the characters make me laugh almost as much as Fred and Rich at times.

Jesus is Fred insufferable when he turns into Captain Buzzkill. Glad to hear that a listener put him in his place
I thought Fred wasn't really out of line despite how funny that segment became. I mean, he's right that if there's no sentimental value, it's basically a high school class ring. The other day Joe was far more of a dick about it, but he was just pissy in general.

That’s the point, there is sentimental value. If I worked for the Red Sox as an IT guy in 2004 I would have been all about it. If I’m Wallach and rooted or the Celtics for 40 years, love doing even fill inn games it’s a dream. Why wouldn’t he want one? I’d bet most of us here would as well.

Fred’s right they aren’t worth much but it’s pretty unique to have one. Fred’s too busy playing with baseball cards. Wallach didn’t even bring this up, he just said he’d want one if offered. Who wouldn’t accept it?

Fred came off as a miserable prick. I get why he doesn’t care but shitting on anyone who does was a bad take.

I agree, and he does this a lot. It’s like if it’s something he personally doesn’t care about he gets on people who do care. It’s the same thing he did to Nick back in the day when he wanted to leave early for the premiere of the Batman movie. It’s almost like he can’t understand why someone would get any amount of joy out of something because he himself is joyless

I didn’t listen to the show, but Fred was giving Wallach shit about accepting an NBA championship ring if offered one? Which would be appropriate since Wallach is an employee of the team?

The fuck kind of take is that?

If the Celts win, Joe Johnson will get a ring. That’s how these things go. It sounds as if Fred was bit by Adam Jones and is now a hot take vampire.
