Is there no one else they can call to fill in right now? Feels like they are just going with an RJ/Roche rotation until they figure things out.
I'm not sure who they have. Joe's on nights now, so he's out, LeRoy's on another morning show, Cerrone is in North Carolina. I'm not sure McCarthy, McBone etc. would work at all. I like them on weekends but horrible fit with Fred. I wish it was just RJ but he has another job too.

I think they probably have figured it out and are just putting warm bodies out there a few weeks until Xmas.

Fred discussing SoSH.

Edit for context: The subject of Google Alerts came up. FT and RJ have them, Wallach doesn't. Conversation turned to message boards and how early on, FT heard about them (when he was first starting out) and thought it was hilarious that people were discussing him. Then mentioned SoSH and how he (and Wallach) would read this. Fred then said that he posted here under his own name when his throat thing was happening to set the record straight. But doesn't post or read it anymore. Wallach agreed.

Well that's a lie. He literally quoted a post here like a month ago about Dan and his echo chamber, although "he couldn't remember where he read it".

I always find it amusing when someone who is paid handsomely to talk about other people in the entertainment/sports industry is perplexed at why others like to talk about someone in the entertainment/sports industry.

Like, all the kinds of things that people post here about Fred are precisely the things he talks about regarding others.

Needless to say, I’m sure he loves the attention.

It’s just like Fred and Twitter/X. He claims he’s off of it but clearly still lurks there constantly.

Anyone catch Fred and Wallach taking shots at Hardy and his alleged work schedule at around 8:45-8:50? What was that all about? That doesn’t bode well!

I only caught about 20 minutes on my drive in the last 2 mornings but it was so cringe-worthy. Fred is so insecure and clearly in way over his head.

The Disney crap story is a perfect example of what we've been talking about. If Rich was still there he would have found the story on his own and done the leg work to work up the audio and produce a whole segment about it. Since he's not Fred apparently "found" it when someone posted about it on his instagram and they got the audio and winged it and it was, pardon the phrase, crap that turned into "let's make fun of Roche" which is always cringe.

I heard that - it didn't come across as mean-spirited to me. I have to imagine Hardy's the internal front-runner for the Rich spot.

That’s what I would have thought too. Maybe it was just some internal “ribbing” as you are alluding to — but that’s not usually something Wallach engages in. So I just found it a bit odd.

I do remember Fred on here. He called someone out and claimed it was Nick’s burner. He deleted the comment later.

I'll have to go back and listen, but what were they taking shots about? The fact that he has like 3+ jobs? He works too hard?

More and more, I find myself hate-listening. The show during this purgatory period has been awful, and given Fred's radio persona I really can't see how Hardy or any other person currently at 98.5 will make this show better in 2024. But I do know one thing: we need less Wallach.

I think it was Vamanos Pests that Fred said was Nick Gemelli, and I think it was right around the time that Fred was on the air berating Nick over this article which I believe is what led to the blowup that ended T&R. By the way I am reading the article for the first time and it's actually pretty funny in its understated way.

Agree on Rich going the extra mile to make the story work on the radio. You know what I think is interesting is that Rich has enough transferable skills that he might be able to make more money off the air than on. For instance he'd be an outstanding ad agency executive.

As far as Dan Roche goes, my opinion is that Fred is legitimately irritated that Dan is so content with his life because it disproves what I think is Fred's belief that everyone is as unhappy as Fred is but everyone else just isn't courageous enough to talk about it. Listening to Fred try to upset Dan Roche gives me the same vibes as listening to a middle school boy tease a classmate who is trying to mind his own business. It's not entertaining.

I don't listen at all anymore other than when I read the thread and listen to the segments you guys talk about if I think they might be interesting. They haven't been. For example, I like when Fred goes off on Lifshatz*. I listened to that segment hoping for some of that and what I got was nasty old Fred asking Kendra Middleton about her feet.

*I also thought the Joe Murray meeting thing was hilarious. It's the same reason I liked the Sarge Sucks period - these dudes just don't get it. All they have to do is accept the ball busting and lean into it a little bit and it all goes away. Instead they keep defending themselves and it just gets more and more funny. For a counterexample, look at how Connor Orr handled being the wrongest person in history about this year's Patriots team. Even look at how Wallach deals with people calling in and telling him how much he sucks. Come to think of it, Fred could have just leaned into "no one cares about your newborn" as though it were a hot sports take instead of yelling at Nick so much Rich had to tell him to stop.

Pretty sure Rich has his next gig lined up but if not, there's no better indication of his talent to perspective employers than how bad the show has been without him.
Fred can be funny still, but it's becoming increasingly clear that for most of the show's successful run, Fred was rolling out of bed still buzzed and banging out his 4 hours while Rich did the lions share of the work to make the show good.

i’m an older Massachusetts transplant living in Arizona who happened on 98.7 and T and R several years ago through Internet radio. T and R reminded me of my ute living in mass and listening first to Bob and Ray from NY radio and then in DC listening to a similar comedy-based morning show on WTOP.

the loss of Rich has only shown how close to the line dividing sanity from insanity comedy truly is. 98.7 and its leadership better hurry up and find an effective comedic foil for Fred T. The current version of the show not only isnt funny it is cringeworthy on a daily basis. the Thursday gambling updates are unlistenable and I no longer wake up at 4 in the morning Arizona time to listen. I try to stomach the show’s last hour but it is difficult.

Fred can no longer articulate basically anything, and his knowledge of sports, Boston and nationally, pales in comparison to both his 98.7 peers and his competitors. His (mis)understanding of the NBA’s in-season tournament and his regurgitation of his comprehension of Scal and Mazzula’s statements from the Bulls/Celtics game were incomprehensible.

I just hope fred doesn't totally alienate Rochey.

For Fred, yes. But for the guy who was his co-host for 17 years: no. And that is one of the reasons why that formula likely worked so well for so long. And I'm sorry, "Kendra's banter" is quickly becoming an instant effective channel changer for me.

The funny part of today’s show was Fred musing about what is or is not happening behind the scenes in Foxboro when yesterday (I think it was yesterday) he was sort of bemoaning the people on this site for all the unfounded speculation about what was happening behind the scenes of the T&R show.

Unfounded speculation, that also largely proved to be accurate.

I’m not slamming him for it, it’s just amusing to me. The classic human thing to speculate wildly about everyone else, but when someone speculates about your livelihood, people get their backs up.

Don’t forget making constant references to people in this thread calling him creepy for talking to Kendra without saying it’s here because he said yesterday he doesn’t read it.

I must be in the minority here but I like her and it’s refreshing to have something that’s not another 40 year old guy. People I’m friends with all like her on the show and don’t have any of the complaints this thread does. Is she a gambling expert? Nope but I find it entertaining.

I think she's likeable, but not as a gambling expert. She's quirky and self-confident and unafraid to give as much as she gets. However, Fred turns lecherous shortly after the Bankroll Gang gets going so it becomes just this really gross diversion. Having her on as an occasional guest would be fine. As a weekly gambling expert that doesn't really talk about gambling but is unafraid to bust balls with a middle-aged guy that wants to... um... flirt... just no.

All of this is my issue with her. What is her value as a weekly member of the Bankroll Bunch if her gambling knowledge is minimal? What is her added value to the show as an occasional guest? I mean they can start a "Creepy Time with Freddy T" segment, but it wouldn't be great (and we know this because that is already what the first break of the Bankroll Bunch has turned into).

Pretty much where I stand. I don't have any issues with Kendra alone per se. She does seem likable and easygoing. But her use on this show has been a painful listen.

I’m down to the weekly segments with Breer, Reiss and Dave Richard. Maybe another Pats talking head if it’s an interesting week. My interest in listening to the show when it’s just being itself (in its current form) is pretty much gone. I’ll give it full a shot again when they formalize the new lineup.

I like Kendra as well. Her gambling takes are silly, but nearly all gambling takes are silly. At least she's engaging, unlike Lipshatz, who's a total bore.

However, the vibe when she's on is really bad because of Fred's old man creepiness and the awkwardness of the other hosts. Do the middle age guys on the show have no interactions with 20-something women? There have to be younger women working at the station. Are those conversations are cringeworthy as the on air segments? Talk to her like a normal human being. It's so weird.

I get where people are coming from on Fred being creepy but most of the time Kendra's bring it up. She brought up the feet photos, she brought up her foot tattoo (which I can't even imagine wanting to get done) and is very confident in herself from her upbringing in Jacksonville, to being homeschooled due to some issues, to her life now.

She's working hard to get into media with about 5 different jobs. Is she really doing anything different than Fred has done for 20 years? She's very open about her personal life good or bad. Eww Kendra uses IUD's for birth control. Fred's talked about banging strippers and basically living at strip clubs when he was at 99x in Atlanta the same age she was. Fred was talking yesterday about sleeping with some 40 year old woman and was super impressed she had a business card when he was in his 20's. RJ was then talking about how he was sleeping with some 39 year old lady in North Dakota and then after that started dating and marrying a woman who was 19 when he was 29.

Kendra on how she talks about her life reminds me 100% of Fred on how he talks about his life. She's unapologetic, she knows what is good and bad about and doesn't give a shit. A bunch of 40+ year old guys on here don't like it and turn it off, I'm wondering how many 20 - 30 year olds see her as one of them. I posted the first time I heard her on a weekend like a a year ago that she made me feel old, which I still agree with.

98.5 needs to keep injecting younger personalities into the shows else they'll end up where every other radio station is. At times this thread reads a lot like a bunch of dads trying to protect Kendra from creepy Fred. She's 28? 29? years old and knows what she's doing and building her brand.

Let me be clearer... I enjoy Kendra's appearances and she can talk about anything she wants. None of what she says weirds me out.

What I don't enjoy is the leering vibe from the middle aged dudes on the show. Honestly I'd rather Fred just channel his inner wannabe-Stern and ask her explicitly about her sex life. Being coy about it is uncomfortable.

The creepiest person on the show with women was clearly Rich. It went back to the Trenni stuff and it was extremely uncomfortable and from accounts she was done with the show because of Rich. Fred isn't Sterrn and I don't think he wants to be. Are RJ, Roche or Wallach leering or is it just Fred?

It was mostly Fred to my recollection. The others chuckled, but it also (like NortheasternPJ said above) certainly seemed like Kendra wasn’t intimidated & wasn’t creeped out by it.

To be fair: I missed the appearances by Tenni, whom I personally like when I hear/see hear her, so I don’t know how she sounded. But, Kendra sounded confident.

I liked her for that reason.

how many middle aged men in general have regular interactions with 20-something women?
People in here might find the vibe creepy but this is sports talk radio, not NPR. The listeners are probably by and large a bunch of “Fred’s” who find it fun and funny and wish an attractive 20 something female would spend a couple of hours with them.

She’s 28 years old or so and RJ is taking about how he married a girl he met when he was 29 and she was 19. Wallgame got married and divorced before he was 30. What a double standard. She’s an adult and fully aware of what’s going on and isn’t some victim of Fred.

I’m not familiar with Treeni so I imagine that predates my time listening to the show.

I wasn’t trying to pick a fight. I’ve been noting that the vibe with Kendra has been weird since the first time she appeared. I don’t recall anyone there ever talking about the romantic life of Dave Richards or Burt Breer when they’ve done segments.

Who? Anyone who works in an office environment. I mean, in my last job half the team I led was women in their 20s and 30s.

And I never, ever badger them about their romantic lives. But that’s just me I guess.

Is your job to sit with them, as a part of a small group, and try to entertain people?

My larger point stands, though. most of the listeners would probably behave closer to how Fred does than how most here would.

I was basically agreeing with him. This thread is a giant mess at this point. I'm sure Kendra can handle herself. I'm out for a bit.
