Why do people seemingly prefer Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship Game over playing them in the divisional round?
I look at it more along the lines of Pitt and Denver are the two best teams in the AFC not named the Pats.

This way you only have to potentially play one of them to advance and if Pitt beats Denver you even still get it at home.

Don't get it either. If Pittsburgh really is the team to beat for NE, they will have to beat them at some point.

Losing the 1 seed may not turn out to be bad, but let's not pretend like it is the preferred option.
If you think that Pitt and Den are the two toughest teams, you might prefer that they play each other first, rather than both back to back.

I'm saying it could be the preferred version bc Pitt playing #1 seed Denver would possibly eliminate the chance of our having to go on the road.

My point is, Pitt will likely wind up playing IN Denver, which I prefer bc they have a good shot at beating Denver so we would still have HFA throughout.
Sure, but the other way to get HFA throughout was to beat one of two bad-to-mediocre teams at the end of the year. To me, the door of Pittsburgh at home + Denver at home is better than Denver on road + anyone else at home. Denver on the road is, to me, the most likely way the Patriots get elminated from the playoffs. Two losses greatly increased the chances of that happening.

I think the Pats need a tuneup game in either the Bengals, Texans or Chiefs before they face a true offense like the Steelers.
Pittsburgh scored four more points than Cincinnati (and they were half a percent apart in DVOA coming into today) while the Steelers will likely be on a third-string running back. As usual, you're an idiot.

Who's QB'ing the Bengals because if its AJ then the Bengals are not as good.

Sadly, the Pats got just what they deserved. Injuries do explain a lot...but first seeds don't often lose 4 of their last 6. That it was the Jets and Fins at the end only puts a finer point on it.

And now we get to hear and read about the Peyton Difference for the next two weeks....

Which is perfect. Put all of the spotlight on their drama circus / circle jerk. It'll be entertaining. As long as the little guys are running around and we've got 12 & 87 and this D, I like our chances

I'm personally more than fine with playing one of KC/Houston/Cincy in divisional round and only having to play one of PIT/DEN... No matter where it is.

I give them a pass the last two weeks, as they were literally a shell of earlier this year. But they threw the 1 seed away at home against Philadelphia. Up 14 against a terribly flawed team, and healthier than now.

One game in the NFL can be a BFD, the equivalent of a ten-game stretch in baseball.

Harder road now but disappointing they squandered many, many chances at home field. They're the best team when healthy though, if the non IRd guys play they win in Denver more than they lose and don't lose at home often. I still expect ring number five is coming

By the same token though, they were 10-0 and were due to lose a couple, even though it was as fluky and ugly as those special team gaffes.

Sucks 12-2 turned into 12-4 but this is a week to week league, the chips will fall where they may, etc.
