Go with Quatraro. He has the added bonus of being in some college classes with me. Was a nice dude.Matt Quatraro or Brady Williams are the obvious choices
Roenicke was not promoted while Cora served a suspension, Cora and the team parted ways. I don't see him coming back and am very interested in seeing who blomm brings in.Here comes CORA!
And after the game he gets to have a goodbye press conference without it being a shock, and the team announcers can talk about him during the game so the fans will be prepped for it. This is how teams do this, it's not a slap in anyone's face.Yes, this was actually the decent way to do it. Roenicke wasn't just the Manager for this screwy season, he was the Bench Coach on the historic 2018 team. Let him say goodbye and enjoy his swan song.
Agreed. I think some posters are taking an assumption as factDoing it before the game gives him a chance to say goodbye to everyone in person.
technically Cora resigned. He wasn't fired.Never should've dismissed Cora in the first place. Give the man his job back.
Why did you want him wacked last Tuesday? What was so special sbout last Tuesday?Would have preferred this on Tuesday.
I think he meant this Tuesday. I disagree either wayWhy did you want him wacked last Tuesday? What was so special sbout last Tuesday?
He’s saying RR should’ve been allowed to finish the season, and Bloom presumably isn’t working tomorrow, so make the announcement on Tuesday. Why did you want him wacked last Tuesday? What was so special sbout last Tuesday?
Has he? I haven’t seen any reporting on that.Bloom's been pretty negative on the Cora idea
He’s under contract with TB through 2024. They probably wouldn’t let him out of the deal to come to Boston.why not Kevin Cash from Tampa 8-2 aga NYY this year tampa is a small market ie this is their peak year
The Sox handled Roenicke's split better than the thread title handled splitting an infinitve. And after the game he gets to have a goodbye press conference without it being a shock, and the team announcers can talk about him during the game so the fans will be prepped for it. I think it would have been inappropriate to do so during Roenicke’s term and during the suspensionBloom has not openly endorsed bringing Cora back. I'd prefer the Sox move on with Bloom's selection and not have any Cora baggage hanging around the team in 2021 and beyond. Bloom likely already has a short list which has been vetted with Sox management.
It's barely been 24 hours since the announcement about Roenicke. And technically Cora is still under suspension. I wouldn't read into anything Bloom has said or not said as far as potential managerial hires. There's no benefit to name checking anyone at this stage, particularly given that many likely candidates are still employed by post-season teams.Of course it would. But I wasn’t referring to a time when RR was still the manager. In the short time since the he was terminated Bloom could have indicated Cora was under consideration as are several candidates. But he went the other way.
I wonder if GMs are even allowed to talk about suspended types in that way? (And if they are, it seems unwise to me).Of course it would. I assume that Bloom will treat Cora like any other candidate (assuming Cora wants to come back) - someone to consider and evaluate but not a lock by any means. Which is how it should be.It's barely been 24 hours since the announcement about Roenicke. And technically Cora is still under suspension. That said, I'd rather he do a full and thorough search for a new manager and hire his guy, and not re-hire anyone from the past few years.
I think this is the case. Cora is suspended until the end of the post-season.I wonder if GMs are even allowed to talk about suspended types in that way? (And if they are, it seems unwise to me).
He is with Bobby Valentine. What's John Farrell doing now-a-days?
(Ducks.)

Heyman says while the Sox have already started reaching out to people for manager recommendations, they have also been talking to people about Cora. "Not ready to say its 70-80%, but I think Cora has a pretty good chance [of returning to Boston]."
I believe he cannot, based on this tweet posted earlier in the thread. (This reads to me like he is keeping the option open but can't talk about it.)I wonder if GMs are even allowed to talk about suspended types in that way? (And if they are, it seems unwise to me).
One of the terms of suspension is zero contact with anyone in the game. So maybe it's not that Bloom and any other GM is adhering to some "formalism", maybe it's Cora isn't picking up the phone even if they do call. They've got nothing to lose but Cora likely does. It's probably a silly analogy, but when I was a kid, if I was grounded, I couldn't talk to or see my friends. They could certainly call my house all they wanted, but I couldn't answer, even if it was to make plans for the day after my punishment ended. Because maybe just by talking on the phone, I'd be extending my punishment by a few more days. What is the reason for the ban on talking to Cora? Is it just formalism that "suspended is suspended" or something?
It seems kind of stupid. There is an end date to his suspension. He's not under any investigation. Maybe, theoretically or something, he's on probation and it could be extended, but all the reasons you suspend someone are being served. He's not being paid, he's not managing, he's not doing any baseball activities. I understand that you cannot hire someone until they have no longer been suspended. But to talk to them about possible employment when they are no longer suspended? I guess I could be convinced but it seems stupid.
Yeah, I guess viewing it as a punishment it makes sense to tell Cora that he can't do anything related to baseball. It just seems a bit weird -- not even sure what it really accomplishes in the long run if he's not actually added to the club or doesn't do any baseball stuff. But since nobody can talk to him you're right that it doesn't really make any real world difference unless the Red Sox lose someone because they are waiting to talk to Cora. One of the terms of suspension is zero contact with anyone in the game. Besides, if Cora is their man, then what's the harm in waiting until the second after the World Series ends? It's not like he's going to get snatched out from underneath them. If they can't talk to him, nobody can. Interview everyone else in the meantime and know that Cora's there as a fallback if they don't like anyone well enough.
Welcome to the media in the 21st centuryThis sucks. The team can't talk about Cora; the press asks anyway, and then makes the non-answers into the story.
