Ullmark?
Performance or injury?

EDIT; Sick, I see.

So Monty really really loves him some Frobot enough that Clifton would go out?

I got tickets to game 5 - it will be amazing if Bergeron comes back for a potential clinching game... hope hope

I don't see why Forbort would play over Clifton, but whatever. I like the creative lines but I worry that the third line is going to struggle a bit. If Krejci has a bounce back game, maybe this is a compelling overall mix. I'll take it.

If you’re trying to minimize turnovers, Clifton can sometimes make some sloppy or ill advised plays/decisions. He does bring a lot to the lineup too, so I’m mostly with you.

Not sure why cbc is so anti Bruin other than their success VS Canadian teams, but their coverage tonight post game, between periods was like a funeral. They were giddy when Fla was up in game 2.

Between here and everywhere.
I wonder if last night was the last we see of Lyon in the series.

Dude is a 30 year old backup for a reason, seems like the Bruins finally have enough tape to realize his glove is massive liability, and will exploit that. Bobrovski isn’t much better, but losing a series with a 10 million dollar goalie in net is easier justified than with him sitting on the bench.

I would be surprised if we saw Lyon again. Bob was rusty at first and gave up a goal pretty early but once he settled in he was good.

The quick pull on Lyon struck me as a bit odd. It wasn’t like he was a sieve back there. But I assume the Florida coaching staff knows his weaknesses, and once they realized the Bruins shared that knowledge, they moved quick.

Honestly a less than 100% Krejci should probably rest up for this series. His lack of speed was an issue in the first two games.

Lines from last night (note: there was a lot of shuffling, especially with Hall, because there's about 11 minutes and two goals for 5v5 unaccounted for here):
63836

Bertuzzi-Zacha-Pastrnak is exactly what it's always been: a high-risk, high-reward line. I'm a bit nervous about it, but I think the Bruins can lean on the difference of goaltending to get the better of the matchups here. Coyle did great as the top line center. The bottom 6 look bad but they did their job IMO: eat some tough matchups and suppress opportunities overall (0.24 xGA in ~12 minutes against this Panthers squad is good).

Seemed more like it was 3-0 and they wanted to give their other goalie some PT in a game that was already pretty much out of reach rather than starting him cold in a new game.

It seemed to me that everyone that matters, on both teams, has seen enough of his glove work to know how to proceed. I’m thinking Bobrovsky is between the pipes tomorrow afternoon.

I think he is too.. which is why they got him in late.. but it could also be like you said as well.. that his glove hand has been exposed and it's time for a switch.

I don't remember the B's getting as many wide open breaks in game 2 as they did in game 3 or even really wide open shots where they could really pick their spots... feels like that's was almost more of Florida's issue than the keeper. But I guess he also didn't make a ton of big saves either.

Lyon is a bit of a weird goalie to get a handle on though, isn’t he? He’ll make a few ten bell athletic stops, then let in 2 45’-55’ wristers to the glove side per game. It took a while for the book on his glove to be confirmed but it sure seems like a reliable liability now.

So yeah, I think we’ve been in agreement without realizing it.

It’s also possible the zone breakout adjustments the Bruins have made are leading to more speed through the neutral zone and numbers as they enter the attacking zone. The stretch passes (Taylor and Pasta each potted one off of one) have to have caught Maurice’s attention, too. Those are men’s league home run passes and I love seeing them work at this level. Find a seam, thread it with pace and sauce, then finish. They addle the defending team, too.

Both of those stretch passes that lead to goals were made by Orlov.
I thought that was the case but wasn’t positive. Hall’s shot had no business finding twine. Pasta’s was closer in, (as, for that matter, was Brad’s GWG in G1). I’m betting Alex’s pumpkin coach has finally pulled up to the curb.

It’s really weird to me to see a NHL goalie have a weak glove. Lyon is extremely sound in his positioning and movement, but seems to lack the hand eye coordination that a goalie needs. Probably why he’s been a journeyman who had a hot few weeks and is suddenly exposed

I'd play Swayman if they even think some extra rest for Ullmark would be in order. Sway got his feet wet tonight in a bit of moment and it would be good for him to not get cold, and damn, do not let Ullmark end up limping through anything.

I thought he just looked completely gassed. That was quite a flurry at the end of a bunch of zone time.
Absolutely a possibility. My guess was between that or possibly something with his groin but since there's been no real evidence or further injury post-game, I am leaning more towards being gassed now.

Overall 5v5 dominance today by the entire team (60.8% xGF). They've been getting better as the series goes on, which is of course a great sign. Close this out on Wednesday.

Well, this was a pair of statement games by the Bruins, especially with the people who are out of the lineup. If they were looking beyond Florida before, they certainly aren't now.

This is starting to feel like a series best considered in the rear view mirror. Hopefully the Bruins can get an early lead and Florida gets somewhat naturally deflated by it all. Hopefully the refs pop Tkachuck and Florida proceeds to feel screwed by the refs as the game slips away.

What I don't want at this point -- however cathartic it might be -- is for the Bruins to engage this guy and get Florida all riled in his defense. Let McAvoy hammer him a couple more times with some good clean hits, score some goals, move to the next round.

For those trying to sort out why the B's ended up short-handed post-melee, here's the breakdown:

16:49 Derek Forbort Roughing against Matthew Tkachuk served by Taylor Hall
16:49 Derek Forbort Fighting against Brandon Montour
16:49 Linus Ullmark Misconduct served by David Pastrnak
16:49 Jake DeBrusk Misconduct

16:49 Brandon Montour Fighting against Derek Forbort
16:49 Sam Bennett Misconduct
16:49 Matthew Tkachuk Misconduct

So did the Bruins end up with 4 "in the box" (Forbort, DeBrusk, Hall and Pasta), with DeBrusk and Ullmark sent off, and FLA had 3 "in the box" (Montour, Bennett and Tkachuk), with Bennett and Tkachuk sent off. The double penalties for Forbort seems a little silly, but no harm, no foul, and lead to the hilarious empty netter after that.

Thank you for this. If I remember correctly, Montour came flying into the play, so he probably should have been assessed a first penalty for roughing, and then second for fighting.

I believe the Bruins only really needed to put Hall in the box to serve Forbort's extra 2 (which was the man power difference). Everyone else could've gone to the dressing room. The Ullmark situation was unique. As with all goalie penalties, the Bruins needed a skater to serve for him. I'm not entirely sure why they made Pasta sit in the box, but my guess is because the Bruins decided to pull Ullmark, the officials wanted whoever was serving his 10 minutes to be in the box to avoid confusion in the event Florida tied it and the Bruins put Ullmark back in prior to the 10 minutes expiring.

I thought the penalites were about right, though I would've matched up the Forbort roughing minor with something for Tkachuk since he instigated the whole thing and also tried to re-engage Ullmark after the offical had him wrapped up. After the inital check by Tkachuk, Ullmark, Forbort and Carlo basically engaged Tkachuk, then Montour and Bennett came flying in to even everything up. I don't recall DeBrusk doing a ton, but Lauko was in there quick and looked to be more active. Maybe the officials got 74 and 94 mixed up.

DeBrusk and Bennett got tangled up pretty good and wrestled to the ground losing their helmets, so likely both of them just got the boot for it.

Isnt as simple as Forbort got the only 2 minute, non-matching penalty.

For this series, I was really expecting Barkov to be more impactful than he has been (in relation to Tkachuk and Bennett who have been impactful - good or bad).
I'm not complaining of course, but for someone who is generally regarded by his peers as among both most complete and most underrated, he's been very quiet.
Gotta wonder if he's nursing an undisclosed injury.
