Babcock has had a lot of success as a coach - he's won the world juniors, Olympic gold and Stanley Cups. The Leafs have issues, but lack of adequate defensemen is a much bigger issue than the coach IMO

I’m listening to today’s Spittin’ Chiclets podcast and Mike Commodore seems to really hate Babcock. Is there something that happened?

Never mind, I read up. If Commodore’s not just trying to cover for falling apart at the end, Babcock sounds like an asshole.

Zach Hyman was playing with a torn ACL. Not sure when it happened, but he played more ES minutes than Matthews in game 7.

And yes, the Commodore v Babcock stuff is legendary.

It seemed like he played a lot of minutes, how does one do that on a torn ACL?

ACLs are generally used for stability in the knee when planting/cutting/changing direction on feet. Which explains how you can walk in a straight line with a torn ACL but any sort of torque and it'll give out. In hockey you're not really putting that kind of stress on the knee, it's really just a straight bend/flex to stride. So it's definitely possible to skate without one, although I'm sure there were times where it didn't feel stable and fucked with his head. And there's no doubt it was very painful.

Groin/hip/oblique injuries are way more debilitating for a hockey player.

Stanley Cup singular. And Kenney has the right of it. I don't doubt Babcock is a good coach, but his hardware is mostly in the past and he's not doing much with this Toronto team. I don't think he's the problem, but he may not be the solution.

Currently on my longest DL stint since I broke my collarbone 20 years ago. Hip and groin.

I've messed my groin up a couple times playing to the point where I couldn't run without significant pain. Played through it (probably foolishly) but pivoting on a dump in and that first stride was the absolute worst. Got better after that initial stride but it just had no burst whatsoever. Plus I thought I had a hernia, which was a fun scare.

It would definitely impact turning on the outside edge and crossing over, but straightline skating wouldn't be impacted at all.

Exact issue I had...it was the pivots and the first stride. Right down to the hernia thought.

Currently undergoing rest and PT since the beginning of the month. Got a tourney in VT in July, so I'd like to be back up to speed by then.

Apparently DeBrusk had to delete his social media accounts during the series because he and his family were receiving death threats.
