Not much needs to be said. Might as well start the hate as early as possible. By the end of the series, Vanek is going to demand explanations as to what golf courses to play.

In all seriousness, it's going to be one hell of a series. A huge key is how the refs will call this series. Will they reward gutless diving? If so, that isn't going to be good. Just play our game and the Briuins should win this series. I loved Carl playing with the first line on a few shifts. He and Lucic seemed to have a chemistry.

We'll find out in a couple days when the series starts. My best guess is either it starts on Thursday or Saturday. Either way, there will be a Saturday night game so CBC can have the Scabs on HNIC. Whether it will be Game 1 or 2 will be determined.

Can't wait to get this going. This week will go slowl.

Hopefully the time off before this series starting will bring Kelly and Paille closer to returning.

I'd like to see the Bs be able to return Caron to the 9th floor and also to be able to have the option to sit Thornton.

Bruins top priority is keeping their cool amidst the hailstorm of Habs baiting bullshittery. Keep your composure and just work through it.

Montreal played well the last month or so, but Boston is probably better in every single aspect of the game and should have a full roster back. When it comes to these two teams, though, it's almost always a tough series. I think Boston will win in 7, as emotions run high and Montreal gets under their skin a bit. If Boston remains even-keeled, I could see it ending in 5.

Yeah, sad to say this because Thornton is a quality guy, but I would be quite happy to sit him for Florek. Florek showed some real battle in this series.

I was pretty impressed with Florek.

This is going to be a fantastic series to watch for anyone who doesn't have a dog in the fight. I feel like the Bruins are a far better team than Montreal, but the Habs have the feel of a team with luck on their side (or maybe just shitty officiating). From some of the games they pulled out (the comeback against Ottawa tops the list) to getting Vanek ebay-style, things just seem to be going their way.

And they have noted playoff killer Danny Briere.

I hate everything to do with Québec outside of Île Bizard and Westmount, the Anglo Gaza Strip of the greater Montréal area.

Bury, injure, maim, and (above all) beat these sacks of piss masquerading as hockey players.

Agree 100%. I like Thornton a lot, but if Florek was a RW I think it'd be a no-brainer. I'm not sure how much he's played there though, and he's a left shot so I wouldn't assume he could seamlessly switch sides.

As others have said, they're the better team and it's not very close. They need to stay calm, play their game, and they'll win this series barring some ridiculous Montreal "luck"

I think the most likely outcome is that one of the first round series extends to Wednesday and the Bs/Habs series starts on Saturday night: Hockey Night in Canada.

Could they play Fri night after NE graduation? I seem to remember that happening in the past but the ice would be absolute shit I would think.

Bell Centre is booked next Mon, Wed, and Sat. Which means this is going to be a clutterbuck and might have to have a back to back.

Friday/Saturday back to back would work, then Tuesday/Thursday up there and back in Boston next Saturday.

I don't know. Price is good (Tuukka is too, but)... And the Habs definitely lead in the might-be-important-depending-on-how-it's-called category of "shifty little guys who fall down when they collide with bigger guys..."

I'm so psyched for this. The Habs and MFYs were the bains of my childhood. As I've gotten older, the "rivalries" (quotes because Boston pretty well always lost) have both spun around. And I'll never be too old to enjoy seeing a Boston team tromp on the guys in pinstripes or in bleu, blanc et rouge!

Montreal is way better than the Bruins in one aspect of the game: faking a seizure to try and draw a penalty.

Between here and everywhere.
Let's dive right into this.

I don't think I'm embellishing by saying that Montreal provides a tough test for the Bruins. They're going to have the Bruins smashing their heads into stanchions with their skill and lateral moves.

I'm sure the Canadiens are falling all over themselves trying to find a weakness in the Bruins.

As long as the Bruins don't fall for their tricks, they should be able to win the series.

Bruins will have at least one perfectly good goal waved off for "incidental contact" or "goaltender interference".  It is actually kind of amazing how often Price gets bailed out by referees.

Canada is talking themselves collectively into Montreal as Cup favorites. I just heard Martin Biron say they'll beat Boston and make the Finals.

I picked them to beat Boston. I'm not rooting for them but for whatever reason they seem to play Boston tougher than anyone. But I don't think they'd beat the Rangers, Flyers, or Pens.

Don't know where to put this but Chia speaks about this year's Bruins team.

http://www.bostonsportsdesk.com/peter-chiarelli-meets-with-the-media/

On the upcoming matchup against the Canadiens
It’s obviously another difficult one. We had — we were mediocre against them during the year, but they’re a team that has given us trouble historically, so it will be a challenge. That way — much is said about their size and their speed and allegedly, that’s what gives us problems. I think that’s part of it. I think it’s just sometimes, you just don’t have success against [a team] sometimes. Having said that, that applied to Detroit, too, so you see what happens with that. They’ve got some speedy forwards, they made themselves better with [Tomas] Vanek, that line has had some success with Max Pacioretty and [David] Desharnais. Their goalie is good — very good. So it’ll be a real interesting series, I think. Despite the common belief that speed kills, I think we’ve shown that we have some speed and we have some size and we have experience, so it will be a challenge but I think we’ll overcome that challenge.
On the notion that the Bruins struggle with speed…
It’s too stereotype, and we’ve improved our speed. I just hear about it all year, too, so I get a little — and obviously Claude [Julien] and I talk, and we get tired of it. But we have speed and we have heaviness and we have a little bit of a chip on our shoulder because of that, because of this label that we have. But fair enough. I understand where it’s come from, I understand when you bring it up in the context of the [Red] Wings and now the Canadiens because they are. They’re both fast teams. It’s about closing gaps more quickly, it’s about establishing a forecheck and leaning on guys, it’s about our special teams — both PK and PP has been outstanding. We maintain that and we’re going to have success.

Holy shit @ Seidenberg. It actually looks like he may play this series.

I'm hoping Marchand maybe has the flu? The good news is that Paille is the one taking his spot.

Marchand sat in the penalty box, that's for sure. I don't remember anything happening to him, perhaps Julien is giving him an extra day off to clear his head.

Paille coming back would be huge. Primarily so Krejci doesn't have to spend so much time killing penalties.

That actually benefits the Bruins, no? It slows down Montreal's speed and transition game, and makes the game more of a battle in the corners type affair - which the Bruins excel at.

I'm ok with it.

I think Marchand might have taken one shift with Soderberg and Erikson.

Paille practicing on his line sounds more like a maintenance day though, unless Marchand was practicing on a different line.

Takes a look at total calls in Montreal vs. league average, and then calls by French officials.

I guess I fail at the eye test.

Facts sure do suck.

Really should have been sussed out for the playoffs. Also doesn't take into account non-calls. Still, I suppose that the "The refs are in Montreal's pocket" meme just isn't true.

Doesn't take into account "key" calls either.  Giving the other team a couple more power plays when Montreal is up by a bunch or down by a bunch might even out the overall numbers, but it shouldn't really offset when the refs give Montreal a BS power play when the game is close (and late) as they always seem to do.

Basically, all this definitively proves is that the refs aren't dumb about their "bias".

Of course, no one's ever cited more than anecdotal evidence the other way, so it's not like that case is strong either.

Those numbers don't mean much without corresponding road numbers for Montreal as a baseline.  For example, if Montreal was committing 66% of all penalties on the road but only 50% at home, it would actually strengthen the bias argument.  And no, I'm not claiming those numbers as anything other than an example.

It was mentioned previously that Bell Centre was previously booked Mon/Wed, so if this is true it would probably set up for games 3 and 4 Tues/Thurs in Montreal, with game 5 if needed being Saturday at the Garden. I can dig that schedule.
