Weigh in with your thoughts. Here are Evan Lazar's from Patriots.com:

New England has two new specialists on their roster with the selection of the consensus top punter in the sixth round. Baringer led the nation in net punting and had several 60-plus yards punts last season. Sometimes, he even out-kicked his coverage, and he'll need to add some hang time to his punts in the pros. But he has the talent to be an NFL punter.

Nitpicking, as I don't really have a vested interest or concern, but if Baringer was the 'consensus top punter' why did Korsak get the Ray Guy Award and not him. Korsak seems to hold more records too. I am happy with Baringer but just curious for those more in the know.

Best I can find is basically that awards votes... Shrug.

Barringer won the big 10 award over Korsak and had better numbers in basically all key areas (net yards, hangtime etc.)

Also in terms of draft stock they look at more than the one year, and Barringer has a strong track record.

Doesn’t mean anything. Jalin Hyatt won the best WR award, and Max Duggan won the best QB award despite another QB winning the Heisman.

I think I read somewhere else (maybe reddit comments) that Korsak is a rugby-style punter, and Baringer more of a pro-style punter.

Meaning Korsak moves around a bit more and needs more time to get his punt off, which works great in college and HS, but in the pros, the players are much, much faster.

*edit* Toss in the combine workouts to see what they look for in punters. About 25 seconds in.
