It’s fun now, Brady said, because he knows what’s coming. He feels great, and you can’t fool him.

“I have the answers to the test now,” Brady said.

“You can’t surprise me on defense.
I came to this thread wondering if someone had commented on this, but it seems like no one took it the way I did. I'm not sure the guy who threw a pick-6 on a play where the defense tricked him* should be bragging about how he can no longer be surprised by a defense (and that's not to mention the three near-INTs he threw (Bennett's catch, Edelman's catch and the second-to-last play)). I'm not disputing he's the GOAT, etc., etc., but a smidge more humility might be in order. Anyway, every opposing DC worth their salt will have this on the bulletin board next year.

* After the game, Randy Moss and Steve Young agreed that the pick-6 was the result of the way the Falcons had switched their coverage, and I'm basing my comment on that.

I may not be remembering correctly, but I thought he got hit on the Bennett throw (it easily could have been picked), the Edelman throw was into tight coverage but the first Falcon did all he could just to get a hand on it, so if intercepted it would have been a tip drill, and the last throw to Bennett, Vic B makes that interception one in a hundred times, though it was a bad pass.
To be fair MB probably should have caught the game winner the play before interference or not.
I took Brady's quote as saying he loves the game and doesn't want to quit while he thinks he can still compete at a high level.
To your point his pick 6 was a bad pass because he got fooled on the coverage.

I definitely didn't take it this way. I read it as more of a "game plan" type response as opposed to looking at every play. There's nothing you can throw at him that he hasn't seen before but there will obviously be times where the defense does a good job disguising it's coverage on a particular play. Brady definitely has bad series or quarters but he doesn't have a bad 48 minutes very often.

Dear BBtL people,
I am so blown away by the videos, audios, articles about SB LI. This team has done the impossible, against all odds. For almost the last two weeks, every day i come to this site, to be uplifted and informed, humored, and enlightened- by fans of every color and description. For a poor boy who has lurked for almost 2 decades here, and enjoyed every minute, win or lose, Sox,Pats,Celts or other things, this epic game was and is a sublime example of fun, joy, unknown friendships, and deep admiration for the Boston sports cornucopia. This site is the best. We are blessed,
PLagosi

The Mitchell TD vs. SF is bigger than the Hightower strip sack in the SB?

I'm not done with these yet, but that's frickin' ridiculous
Yeah, the ranking doesn't make much sense to me. If it's about how great the play is without considering the context, then maybe Mitchell's catch is more impressive than the strip sack (that's debatable for sure). But if they're not considering the circumstances of the play, how can the amazing Incredelman catch come behind the White championship touchdown? It may be inconsistent, but it makes me so damn happy that I can ask that question. Holy shit I'll never get over that win.

Yeah in terms of best plays I think it was a better play - crazy throw by Brady - but given that they put White at the #1 slot, it seems like it is a mix between "best" and "most important" plays. Because obviously the SB winning TD wasn't even a top 100 play on the season in terms of "best" plays.

Edit: or what @Dollar said

edit: ...and I only just noticed the thrown beer can at 34:42. Don't know how I missed that after all the replays right there. Must've been Shannon Sharpe.

This is an insane post.

-He's saying he's seen it all at this point which makes playing the position much easier mentally than it used to be for him. That doesn't mean he's going to be perfect in every situation.

-The other guys are highly paid elite athletes too, and will make plays even if Brady is close to perfect on every play, which he will not be.

-If defensive coordinators need bulletin board material to get motivated to try to put together a game plan to stop the GOAT and defending Super Bowl champs, they suck

-I didn't take it as bragging, which is not something Brady typically does, but even if it is a slight brag, I'm going to go ahead and give him this one given the circumstances.

Mike Vaz, who creates incredible montage videos, just dropped one for 2016-2017 Pats. Still addicted to this stuff like a teenage girl on Kpop.

Most if not all of these are in the thread. I'm creating a DVD with the best ones for posterity, made this list and thought it might be useful for others to have all in one place.
I want a copy of the DVD!

Yeah, noticed that too. Doesn't even come close to the best thing thrown onto the field this year, though.

It's not just me who is getting the "playback on other websites has been disabled by the video owner" messages right? Most of the linked to vids are giving that to me

the NFL doesn't permit remote viewing of any of its videos, or any video containing its copyrighted content. When you view it on Youtube itself, they maximize the ad revenue-share they get with it, so that's their condition. That's probably part of the reason they allow remixes using their footage in the first place.

I just discovered something called "NFL World" and a show called Good Morning Football, apparently a live morning show on NFL Network that's new this year. They have a bunch of (fairly softball-y) interviews with Pats players lately. Go to their videos page for the full set of segments, but here's a taste...

Hogan:

Blount:

Mitchell: (sounds very mature for a rookie)

(also, Mitchell & Willie)

Edelman on NFL Total Access, interviewed by LaDainian Tomlinson (which must have killed him):

...and Part 2 with Edelman is adorable.

I can't stop consuming SB 51 coverage. It's becoming a problem.

Bill Barnwell wrote something like 10,000 words in an in-depth exploration of exactly how the hell the Patriots pulled off their resurrection, with win-expectancy numbers chronicling the rise. It may have been posted early in this thread - I've scanned and didn't see it - but it's still worth a read, which isn't something I often say about Barnwell. He accounts for a bunch of scenarios in analyzing decisions, e.g.:

Atlanta still might have been able to muster a drive to at least attempt a game-winning field goal. The Patriots helped out by making a strategic mistake and snapping the ball with 21 seconds to go on the game clock during the White touchdown. It's not necessarily a good idea to run the play clock down to one second left before snapping the ball, but Brady should have shaved another 10-12 seconds off the clock before the snap. The argument that the Patriots needed to conserve time in case of a failed two-point conversion doesn't really hold water; if the Patriots failed, they were going to be stuck attempting an expected onside kick to try to get one final possession. The chances of recovering that onside kick are likely lower than the chances of giving up a meaningful drive to the Falcons with a minute left on the clock.
...As well as some decent analysis of hidden plays, especially Ghost's:
His other three kickoffs, though, each pinned the Falcons inside of their own 20-yard line. One was returned to the Falcons' 19-yard line, but the two truly great kicks came on Gostkowski's final two kickoffs of the game. The first, with the Patriots down 28-20, was booted to the 3-yard line with enough hang time for the coverage units to pin down Justin Hardy and limit him to a 7-yard return, starting Atlanta on the 10-yard line. Given that the Falcons finished the drive a few desperate yards away from what would have been game-sealing field goal range, Gostkowski's kickoff might have helped save the season. After the Patriots tied the score, Gostkowski delivered a similarly effective kickoff to the goal line, which Eric Weems returned to his own 11-yard line to start a disappointingly short possession.
A good read if you're procrastinating.

On the players videos above, interesting from LGBT: "I still don't know how they pulled it off"

They, not we? I know he viewed most of the comeback from the sidelines but seemed odd to me

My guess is that it was more of a slip of the tongue or awkward phrasing than an indication that he really felt apart from the team a la Cyrus Jones. Many people articulate imprecisely on occasion and especially when they're excited.

I agree with Theo above. Case in point - how often fans use the word "we" when they never get off the couch (never mind off the bench and onto the field...)

If you haven't already, grab a download of the BBC broadcast of the game, with or without breaks. Their methods are influenced (obviously) by their soccer experience. As a result, the game lives and breathes in an entirely different way and stands on its own. During US commercial breaks they cut to a studio team analyzing play.

In my opinion, it's a far, far superior broadcast and experience.

He was essentially benched. He realized, if only subconsciously, it was a "they" rather than "we."
