Meanwhile Richard Sherman defends the hit

Church drew criticism for the hit on social media but was defended by Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. He tweeted, "The hit on Gronk is the only way Church could have done his job without just obliterating Gronks knee. If he would have just hit him low most ppl would calm him dirty. So there is nothing he can do to make everyone happy and do his job. Unless you think he should let him catch"

How long do concussions hold players out typically? I was telling my wife that for as much as the Pats are called cheaters, nearly every other team brings Gronk back in after the half imo.
No hard and fast rule. Sendejo was knocked out cold and is playing right now.

If the pats were on their bye week before a week 9 match up with some random team then it’d be a valid question.

But it’s the super bowl. No question, zero doubt he plays
Okay. It's the same concussion protocol he has to clear though.

100% chance he is playing in the Super Bowl. That’s an absurd question to even ask.
The question is whether he's playing and effective, or playing like he was in the superbowl that shall not be named, where pretty much anyone else would have been more effective.

A confused, dizzy, etc Gronk is not a plus.

Do you have any actual information beyond rampant speculation that is currently taking up 1/2 of the thread? It's clearly going to be a top 5 story heading into the game. Happy to be wrong if they announce he's fine in a few days.

Once you get past the actual game, is it the team that runs protocol or the league? If it’s the team, he’s 100% playing. Odds are he’ll be back regardless, but obviously it’s a bit of a crapshoot.

That there haven't been any real updates yet makes me think the concussion is pretty serious. The extra week will help for sure.

I'll be there. Hope to see some of you guys there as well.

And no joke, this is my first Pats game in person ever. Great way to start.

Wrong thread, sorry.

Though I assume if Gronk is practicing next week, we’d know.

Andy Brickley's potty mouth
Cautiously optimistic. He never lost consciousness from what I saw. Two full weeks. Hope he's out there.
If you're a Bruins fan, you should know that it doesn't take loss of consciousness to totally fuck up a player, especially if this is multiple concussions. I have no idea how many concussions Gronk had had in his career, but both Bergeron and Savard would like to caution you because looks can be deceiving.

Pretty crazy that the Eagles are the only thing standing between 3 Lombardis in 4 years for the 2nd time, 13 years later.
I was going to start a thread about this, but probably smart to wait to see if the Patriots win, but it'll be interesting to see how history remembers the Patriots. Is it one long dynasty or 2 separate dynasties? It'll be fun to debate after the SB.

Its one. There were 2 super bowl loses in between. Its been continued excellence for, what, 17 years? And the 2 most important people that have an impact on gameday haven't changed. Its kinda crazy and one of the reason a lot of fans hate NE fans because of thinking like that

Can we keep this thread on Gronk and his recovery? We have enough threads to discuss other aspects of the Super Bowl

In theory (and it seems, practice) the teams have no control. Neutral doctor decides.

I don't disagree. But Gronk seemed steady when walking to the locker room under his own power. Not definitive by any means, but he looked far, far better than either Bergeron (who left on a stretcher) or Savard did when they left the ice with their injuries.

Still, I'm fully prepared to know absolutely nothing about Gronk's injury status for the next 10 days or so. About the only indication we'll have prior to then will be if he practices middle of this week (unlikely), or if he doesn't board the plane to Minneapolis (also unlikely, but would obviously be a bad sign).

Not all concussions are treated equally. Bergeron has had a couple after that bad one where he's only been out for a couple games. It's hard to predict.

Zo on the radio saying that a few years ago, he'd have come back into the game, and that he'll be fine for the Super Bowl. Zo went drinking with the Gronkowski clan last night.

It wouldn't be a Super Bowl without Gronk being hurt somehow. Christ, talk about snake bit.

The thing that ticks me off about the Sherman comment, is his version of the only way "to do his job" implies a DB has a right to actually tackle and stop a guy 5" taller and 60lbs heavier. That's not the case. Gronk has a huge advantage, the DB has the right within the rules to do whatever he can legally to bring Gronk down. But if the size advantage makes that nearly impossible, it doesn't give you the right to go helmet to helmet and launch stating "it's the only way to bring him down". You have the right to hit him clean, that's it, and if Gronk is so big its nearly impossible without another player showing up, then so be it. But "doing his job" doesn't mean you get to break the rules because its an impossible task with a clean hit. You have the right to try and bring him down within the rules.

It is kind of irritating how the narrative re: Gronk has been "he's so big and tough to take down, there's nothing you can do" to dismiss dirty hits. Toucher and Rich did it this morning.
"you can't go low or you're labeled dirty. You can't go high or you get a penalty"
The dude is 6'7" there's a lot of room between his head and knees.

Thread title sub-head: "Take me to Church"?

Now that's quality reporting. Seth Wickersham ain't got shit on Zo.

The league wants Gronk in the game. They aren't going to stand in the way of the Patriots clearing him.

Would you consider the Bills of the early 90s a dynasty? It was a decade between SB wins for the Patriots, I think an argument could be made that it's 2 separate dynasties.

I'm just hoping for Gronkowski to be active for the Super Bowl because he's been properly cleared to play.

It's a single dynasty because it's the same people there that are responsible for the team's success.

Have to imagine the Pats have someone to chaperone/babysit/buddy system Gronk while he's in the protocol.

Nice.
Gronk literally has hired a friend of his to drive the rest of his crew around so nobody gets DUIs and such.

The guy is more on top of his situation than he often gets credit for.
