"I would say, realistically -- I don't want any headlines -- but next year would be the last one," Scully said. "How much longer can you go fooling people? Dear God, if you give me next year, I'll hang it up. I do feel in my bones that will be enough. I'm sure the people will feel that will be enough, too. Enough is enough. Without a doubt, next year, my gosh, what's that saying, talk about next year and make the devil laugh? I'm very wary of that."

Well, this sucks.

TWC/Dodgers and the other cable companies better get their act together so that folks in LA are not deprived of yet another Scully season... (I have TWC so I dont have this issue) but plenty of my friends here in LA are pissed they cant get dodgers on TV (and being forced to use a VPN)

I appreciate the sentiment, but it doesn't suck, it's a miracle that he's coming back for another year.

My first exposure to baseball was listening the Vin Scully announce the Brooklyn Dodgers games in 1955 and 1956.  It is incredible to me that he is stil at it.  His rhythm and appreciation for the game is poetic.  It was a pleasure to hear him almost daily for those summers.  I envy the Loss Angelenos their good fortune.  May the 2016 season be a wonderful one for them.

I don't know about east coast appreciation of Vin Scully... but my god. He is good as there has been for baseball ever. Period.
Man could record my eulogy right now.

Read a story online last week that said in addition to doing other sports (I think a lot of people know Scully called "The Catch" from Montana to Clark on CBS), Scully was also the narrator on an obscure, short-lived TV series in the 1960s. Surely you've heard of "Occasional Wife," right?

Well, we knew it had to come sooner or later.  Perhaps the best there ever was, and I will certainly watch as many Dodger home games as I can between now and the end of next season.

As a growing up in the 80's my first exposure to Scully was NBC's game of the week. He was great to listen to them and arguably even better now all these years later. MLB Network catches a lot of Dodger home games and I'm sure will catch even more now. Plenty of opportunity to listen arguably the greatest ever at his craft.

Not only the fact we get yet another season but also the fact he's seemingly lost nothing on his broadcasts. He is still terrific to listen too.

Are there are full games of Scully announcing a Red Sox-Dodgers game that we can be linked to? (Please, no World Series games involving the Mets). Thanks!
I can't link to it. But didn't he call the LAD/Bos games in 2013?

yep.....it does suck (the TWC element, that is), but having him on the radio is pure pleasure, too.

In his press conference, he mentioned as a rookie broadcaster he met Connie Mack in 1950.  Mack retired at 87 from managing the Athletics at the end of that season.  Mack was younger at retirement age than Vin will be when he signs off next year.  Mack started playing in the late 1880s, so that is almost 130 years of baseball spanned from just two people.

California. Duh.
Scully has been around for so long that he's been a Hall of Famer for half his career.

The year he was inducted, Cal Ripken Jr. was the Rookie of the Year (credit to DLew for that factoid).

The Saturday game was on Fox, and the Sunday game was on ESPN, but he called the Friday game.

He also made a rare road broadcast when the Dodgers were at Fenway. Can't link but I do remeber they showed him in the NESN broadcast.

Was just coming here to post that.  If you aren't someone with MLBEI or MLB.tv, tune in, I beg of you.  We are running out of time (though not as fast as I had feared).
