That is an unbelievably painful game to have to sit with all offseason for the Blue Jays.

3rd team to ever come back from a 7 run deficit in a playoff game

- 2008 ALCS Game 5 - Red Sox trail Rays 7-0 before coming back to win 8-7
- 1929 World Series Game 4 - Philadelphia Athletics trail Cubs 8-0 before coming back to win 10-8

I think the Mariners have a punchers chance. Like with any sport, division opponents facing each other in the playoffs can be crazy because of the familiarity.

And the AL East representatives are down to one.

Damn shame Houston is going to eviscerate this Mariners team.
Not an Astros fan, but to the extent this makes YED more likely, then I'd have to be for it.

The lost advantage is there are now fewer teams in the tournament that I think can beat the MFYs.
Go Guardians!

I wonder how the layoff will affect the teams with byes. They've obviously been the best teams this season, so talent will out. But this is new territory for MLB where teams with byes have had this much time off.

That seems highly unlikely.
Logan Gilbert, Luis Castillo, Robbie Ray and George Kirby, plus the best bullpen in the AL might have something to say about that. And they are much deeper on offense with a healthy Julio than they were a week ago, and are the best defensive team in the AL to boot.

I wouldn't count them out.

Vlad Jr. is an incredible talent, but he got a big taste of humble pie after the walk off against the Yankees and tonight that he hopefully learns from.

In past seasons didnt all teams get a layoff? On balance, I think being able to set up the pitching and get rest has to outweigh rust. Yaneverknow.

Happy for M’s fans. They’re busting out, and rightly so. It’s been a long time since playoff baseball was played in Seattle.

Think if Curry played like he did last year against the Raptors how Toronto fans would feel? Generally the Raptor fans are a separate group from the Jays/Leafs fans though.
Sadly for me TSN and other Canadian sports medioa will be 100% Leafs within two days of this.

Both Springer and Bichette diving for the ball when up 5 runs was pretty dumb.

Maybe shoe on head will finally put the rally monkey in the rear view mirror.

Seattle is a big fishing community. Maybe somebody will try fish on head.

Castillo twice gives the M’s a real puncher’s chance.
Gilbert as well. He only let up 5 ER+ in 3 games this year, and had QS's in all 4 of his games against Houston. I also think the games in Seattle favor Seattle more than the games in Houston favor Houston, if that makes any sense. It would be a serious surprise to me if Houston steamrolls this team. If "IT" is a real thing, these Mariners have a lot of it.
