Good for Peverley, hopefully the front office gig works out for him.

My 2 main memories of Peverley are on opposite sides of the spectrum:

1. First goal of game 4 against Vancouver.
2. Whiffing on the rebound with less than 10 seconds to go in game 7 against the Leafs in 2013. Ah, Pevs.

So 1/2 the years and slightly more AAV than McQuaid. Mind blowing.

You son of a.....  I was just starting to get excited for hockey, too.
I just re-read the late June threads, figuring I'd see my posts and think, "Oh my, what an overreaction!"

Nope. Still hate Sweeney and Neely.

Good for him. Was surprised he didn't catch on somewhere else, his speed is still an asset in this league.

He definitely should have a contract before Campbell does.

Has there ever been another player who deserved so much scorn on the ice, but who time and time again showed himself as a truly awesome person off the ice?

Not seeing anything of real value for NYI. No picks for clearing 4 contract slots for the Leafs? And Toronto gets a solid, speedy PKing forward w 20-25 goal upside?

Isles free up $3 million in cap space and are almost $10 million under the cap.

Toronto has a bevy of guys on PTO's. They just cleared up space to sign a few.

The only value for the Isles has to be saving money. Grabner was due $5 million this year. They shed all of that and take on a few 2-ways.

I find it hard to believe that a guy like Grabner couldn't get something of value rather than just clearing $3m in cap, $5m in real $$ though - and he only has a 1 year commitment remaining.

Grabner's in the top 20th percentile for guys on ice for d-zone draws in the past 3 years, has middle-of-the-pack possession stats in spite of it, and has some goalscoring touch. The injuries haven't really taken a toll on his speed either, he just isn't dependable for 82 games.

For a team with playoff aspirations, if this is really to save the additional $2m in real $$, that's a weak move considering the move to Brooklyn should leave them with no shortage of cash. If they were getting some futures back I'd at least understand it - otherwise they're doing Toronto a contract limit favor for little-to-no benefit.

A) he went out on top
B) on the ice he was a colossal dickbag
C) he's really taken a Chris Kluwe-type role of advocating for post-NHL players.  I hope he can be relatively successful, like Kluwe, in helping a lot of players make smart decisions about the transition from the regimented life of a professional athlete to the non-regimented post-sports life.
D) Still a colossal dickback that I hope never skates professionally again.

edit: here's his article from the Players Tribune with his retirement announcement and his off-ice work.

I'm assuming the cap room will be used to make a trade for a defenseman, which is the Isles biggest need. Grabner is injured way too often to expect anything more than a $3 million black hole on the cap. I'm not seeing it as a cheapskate move in any way.

I remember watching the 2014 draft, and the consensus was, after the first half dozen picks, that he was the most talented player on the board.
Tons of talent, but glad the B's passed on him and took Pasta with the 25th pick (Ho-Sang fell to 28th)

Between here and everywhere.
Yea I was pretty disappointed they didn't grab the kid. His post draft interviews made me really like the kid and want him to do well.

Not the best start.

Let's keep in mind that this is the same Islanders organization that says if you're an RFA and you're not signed by the beginning of training camp, you're out. For the SEASON.

Ho-Sang may have pulled a Seguin, but most organizations bag skate him or hold him out of a game in the preseason.

Ryan Whitney has announced his retirement. Would think it's only a matter of time until he's on tv someplace.

RE: Ho-Sang...word was they made him runs stairs during the entire practice before sending him home.

Great point raised on twitter- who was his roommate? And what kind of dick must Ho-Sang actually be that his roomie wouldn't do him a solid?

Its a great trade of the Leafs - he'll hopefully stay healthy and they can flip him at the deadline for picks (ala Wenzink last year) .. if he sucks its also a bonus because the team will be worse. And it clears out a bunch of not needed or wanted contracts.

Bit of a head scratcher from the NY perspective.
