If he grabbed it out of the wristband I would think that was a terrible action, but picking it up off the ground? Secure it better if you don’t want the opponents to read it/take it.

wouldn’t surprise me if football teams grab a peak at QB play lists in a pile.

I agree with securing it better, but stuff happens. Also, there is a difference between a quick glance at a bunch of code words in a dogpile, which requires a photographic memory to actually do anything with the info, and having the list in hand and having time to study it, perhaps copy it, decipher it (if necessary), and spread the info to teammates. No reason he couldn't have left it where it was or handed it back to the catcher.

If you write all your greatest secrets down on a piece of paper in plain English, then be careful with that piece of paper. Loser move to be careless and then whine about it as if it’s someone else’s fault. Like the team you’re probably going to play in the first round of the playoffs is supposed to just ignore that info falling into their lap. Rays would be fools not to take advantage of it.

You also look doubly stupid asking for a notecard back, like the Rays don’t have the incredibly advanced technology to take a picture of it.

They dropped it in the field of play. Didnt go back after it. Tough luck. He didnt rip it out of the guys pocket. Kinda heads up actually to recognize what is is and snag it.
Plus as pointed out, Im sure this got picd or scanned to pdf immediately.

Rays came one foot away from a walkoff double in the bottom of the 9th, but ball ended up slightly foul and then Wendle flies out on next pitch to end the game. Rays fall to Jays 4-2.

Make it 10 in a row for the Cardinals, who defeat the Brewers 2-1 in the 2nd game of a 4-gane series in Milwaukee.

St. Louis is now 4 games clear of Cincinnati for the 2nd Wild Card.

I read the Jays asked for it back and the Rays said no. Wouldn’t surprise me if someone gets thrown at if the game gets out of hand. Not advocating throwing at anyone, it is dumb and dangerous.

I don't get why they wouldn't just scan the whole thing, scrawl "HA HA HA" on it, then hand it back over. Would be a lot more fun than refusing to hand it back.

So if the guy grabbed the catcher's mask that he discarded and then trotted to the bench with it, that would be fine? Or went to the mound and took the bag of rosin on his way in from the outfield so the other team couldnt use it?

This is some appealing logic. We can also reverse the offenders/victims and have the catcher pick up the bat of a player who has just hit and gouge the wood with his spikes (making it useless) or instead pick it up and smash it in two. Maybe there is no “hands off the other team’s equipment” rule, which would extend to equipment containing mostly info, but there should be.

In the middle of a pennant race, Scott Kazmir is starting for the Giants. It's his 4th MLB game of the year and his 4th since 2016.

Kermeier just got drilled by a reliever. I guess the Jays didn't appreciate him taking their info card.

Are these cheat sheets considered equipment? Is there anything making them off limits in this sort of situation? If one team chooses to bring some sort of written out game plan onto the field of play should it not be their responsibility to protect it?

I know Soto's been destroying the ball, but I didn't realize he had 34 walks to 9 strikeouts in his last 30 games. That's insane, especially in today's game.

With a runner on first and one out in the bottom 6, the Padres have Trent Grisham (.237 BA / .729 OPS) sac bunt ahead of #8 hitter, catcher Victor Caratini (.216 BA / .612 OPS). WTF. Caratini Ks, and the Giants so far have put up a 3 spot in the top 7, still no outs, now leading 8-1.

Angels had the bases loaded, none out in the B10 and don't score. Inning ends on a 9-2 double play as Ohtani thrown out at the plate

On to the 11th

The fact that the Nats have Soto and Bell (.817 OPS) and nobody else who can hit helped make this stat. Soto to his credit isn't changing his approach at the plate.
It’s hard to understand how a team with Soto, Turner, Schwarber, and Scherzer wasn’t more competitive in a lousy division, isn’t it?

My first post complaining about the Cardinals coincides with their hot streak, so I’ll take the blame. I was even trying to jinx them by posting!

The lesson as always: never post.
