I hate to agree with anything "TBE" (plzzzzz) related but another completely dominating performance by the champ. To be honest, I thought the media was trying its ass off getting the hype machine going but little of that translated into the ring. The 4th was probably the worst PBF looked in the last few fights, but that's one round of what, 50?

Maidana brought little new from the first bout and ate several really hard shots. Just technically too limited in his range of moves and counters. You watch someone like him & his corner and really start to appreciate PBF Sr. and Freddie Roach in what they do.

I'll say this -- a fight with Amir Khan may be the first and only bout where I will be rooting HARD for Floyd. And for a sweet KO too.

GGG says he can get down to fight Floyd.  I'd like to see that.  Other than MP, I won't watch any other fight with PBF.  Well, maybe a Cotto rematch.

There is no way that Duckweather even considers fighting GGG. At this point in his career he just wants to preserve his undefeated record and will continue to cherry pick fights he knows he will win.

Asking floyd to fight a middleweight is a joke to begin with. He's ducking thurman, the charlos, pac, etc. Guys in his weight class. But a mw. Please. That's unfair.

I really dislike canelo and him fighting joshua fn clottey is going to make me hate him even more.

Rip to dan goosen. He always seemed to be one of the decent promoters and reading everything yesterday it looks like that was the case.

GGG isn't the mandatory challenger at 154 though.  I'd love to see the fight, but there's not enough money in it for Floyd to take the chance.  If he doesn't fight MP, he's not going to fight Golovkin.

Because Floyd Sr. wants a little attention? I doubt that guy knows any more about Floyd's intentions than you or I do.

Manny's announced intention to finish his career at 140 is a sick joke by arum to try and end the legal dispute with Mikey Garcia. I doubt Mikey is that stupid though

The atmosphere was pretty nuts last night. HBO has done a great job creating this mythical unstoppable force by using the horrible middleweight division. It has to be one of the worst MW divisions in a while.

But even with the madness, there was a feeling around the people last night that they know what this is. It's a monkey show, a circus, etc. It's fun but he has to fight some legit people already.

Also, donaire was on his way to being stopped. I truly believe that. But he caught a raw deal, knocked out on a blatant punch to the back of the head. I haven't watched the fight again but i hope they at least mentioned that.

It seems like the  mainstream coverage is not acknowledging it was a punch to the back of the head.

I'm starting to be actively bothered by this Golovkin crap.  He's, what, 32?  He's not some phenom like Canelo.  This is as good as he'll ever be, stop acting like he's a prospect.  He's like some 26 year old with 40 homers in AA.  Oh, and his growing popularity?  HBO has been pimping him out for 2 years and he needed to have Donaire on the undercard to sell out some arena I'd never heard of in some CA town I'd never heard of.  Bright lights, big city.

If I hear one more comparison to f'ing Mike Tyson about this guy.  Tyson's 31st fight, when he was still 21 by the way, was his 3rd title defense.  Golovkin has fought nobody. NOBODY.  His last two fights were against some Aussie nobody coming off a loss - seriously - who comes off a loss and gets an HBO main event fight?  And some schmuck with 60 pro fights who apparently never learned to count to ten.

Here's the thing.  Golovkin is slow, his defense sucks, and it's easy to knock out guys with no defense, no head movement, and no heart.  I'll bet anyone here any amount of money that he loses, badly, to the first top fighter he faces.

Marciano, while i agree with your assessment of his skills and what he has actually shown so far. I'd have to disagree with the star power. HBOs marketing has worked. Stubhub was near sold out before the donaire fight was announced and they added seats and sold standing room only tickets. People love him. The mystique, the hype, etc. The hype machine did its job. It worked. You have paid analyst like Rafael and Kellerman basically trashing Ward in comparison just to build him up more.

Aa for the prospects of a real fight soon, probably not. he is fighting again in February with the intention to fight the cotto/canelao winner....that means he'll be fighting another bum to not risk it

I get your point about StubHub, but, look, he sold out StubHub on HBO free, not the Staples Center on HBO PPV.  I'm fine if he takes one last tune up to fight Cotto/Canelo, though, honestly, I think he might beat Canelo only because he's another guy who doesn't impress me much.

Caught Broner's last fight on Showtime - everyone should check it out if they get a chance, it's a doozy.

A subpar year will be closed out by a stacked showtime triple header in December. Headlined by khan/Alexander.

Khan will be favored but honestly, i feel like he's walking into a real ass kicking.

Bhop wants GGG if he wins tomorrow. That sounds like something from a circus show but I'm strangely intrigued

Oddly, I think Hopkins has a better shot against GGG than Kovalev.

Kovalev is so damn average. Even bhop from 4 years ago would have schooled him. He's just too old tonight

I honestly don't understand why Adonis is scared to fight him

I think that 12th round was hopkins trying to commit suicide. he took some tremendous shots.

Man this god damn basic bum doesnt deserve to have a win against bhop on his resume.

Id like to add to the record that everything bhop said after the fight was spot on. Credit to kovalev for fighting pretty smart and patient. Id still lay a house down that a 45 year old hopkins would fleece him though

I'm not sure Bernard ever wins that fight.  He felt Kovalev's power in the first, and wanted nothing to do with putting himself in a situation where he might taste it again.

On another note, I'm on a work seminar out in Arizona Dec 11-12.  I'm thinking about heading to Vegas after the seminar is over for the next night, as there are two boxing cards in town that night.  While I was initially leaning towards the Khan-Alexander fight, I'm worried that might end up being a snoozer and the Bradley card might end up having the better action.  Thoughts?

I would lean towards the more significant fight in khan and Alexander. Devon is also a marvel to watch live. That guy has to do a line of coke before each fight.

Probably. but at the end of the day he had a 50 year old in front of him who threw no punches and could only get to him in the 12th when bhop dropped his hands and dared him to knock him out

That's one way to describe Hopkins and the fight....

After he took Pulew's best punch of the fight, he immediately leveled him with a perfect left hook. That was a great night for him.

Pulev has an awful style.  Not sure why he was standing straight up against the taller fighter.  Not sure he was windmilling his lead hand against a guy with a lethal cross.  Not sure why he tried to go toe to toe with a bigger puncher when he had the reach and youth.  That said, Klitschko looked great.  The cross is still a laser and the lead hook is devastating.  I wish there was someone out there to challenge him.  He's probably got another 3-5 years left as champ.

I love how arum use the floyd fight as a tease to build manny's fight. He's done it now the last 3 or 4 times and its just fucking sad.

Anyone think Algieri has a shot this weekend?  I think it goes 12, but can't see CA winning more than 3 rounds.

I think Manny's speed is the difference. As long as he's bouncing and flying around the ring like he used to, he should win. But if it turns into anything resembling a technical fight, Algieri has a chance.

Just realized this is at one of those stupid Pacquiao Arum catch weights. 144 pounds. Like seriously? Wtf is that.

Well the Pacquiao fight went pretty much as I expected. Manny looked good (fast/good footwork), but seemed to allow a lot of right hands get through on him. I don't know if that is due to Algieri's style or is more of a defensive flaw. Is there any chance Mayweather might be less reluctant to take this fight finally, or this something that will never happen? I'm not really clamoring to see a Pacman/Garcia fight...
Lomachenko looked impressive as always and I hope that hand/wrist injury isn't anything too serious.

Pac looks, and has looked, old and slow for a while. The same defensive gaps are still there.

I know people think algieri will disappear to Bolivia (bad tyson joke i know) but he won't. He'll get 1 more fight on showtime or hbo and he will school the hell out of someone. I think he'll end up winning a belt off someone next year at 140 or 147. His size and boxing ability will give people problems. Last night, he basically gave himself no shot to win and outside of 1 knockdown, manny barely did shit.

Now onto one of the worst ref performances ive seen. I truly hope for the sport that we never see that ref again. If you cannot call a slips that happen 1 feet away from you and is disconnected from action then you are blind and incompetent. And to add to it, Algieri had to call his own low punches after being called out for non low blows. Holy crap what a shit ref.
And finally jim lampley, how the f has this guy been calling fights for 100 years and be surprised by a game plan? it was pretty clear what the plan was. Roy is like the boxer's common sense voice on that broadcast.

This wasn't even a close fight. Algieri was blown out if the water after HBO pumped him up the first 6 rounds. Thank goodness for RJJ and Lederman. CA saw his luck run out. Ruslan beat his ass and he should've gone back to fighting in LI.

The beauty of the fight being dragged out this long for Pac and his fans is, the pressure is off. No one is going to care if he loses. Its a win win for him.

The same for Manny, n'est-ce pas?  At this point though, I think Manny systematically takes Pac apart.  PBF isn't nearly as fast as he used to be, nor as elusive, but Manny looks like shit lately.  Just wide and wild and his footwork looks off.  He's oddly more and less aggressive at the same time, and certainly less effective when being aggressive.  The old Manny was a tornado, now he's just a stiff breeze.

The over/under on clean right hands PBF sticks to Manny's dome would have to be at least at 60.

Nerves do play a factor. And manny has nothing to lose. Combine that with floyd being a lot slower than he used to be and it might be close. I'm just playing devil's advocate.

I was going to bring up exactly what you just did about floyd lead straight right hand. It used to be his primary offense before he turned to body punching and it should be something roach focuses heavily on. Manny has shown no ability to get out of the way of that punch, even algieri landed some heavy ones.

Pascal/Kovalev and Rios/Alvarado 3 set for next year. Those fights alone make next year a better year than 2014. Man this has been a shitty year for boxing

Kovalev may murder Pascal.  The Stephenson fight needs to happen.

What a punk.  Didn't some oil sheiks in Dubai just offer both of them 100 million?  Just fucking fight already.

Lemeiux/Rosado tonight should make for an entertaining fight. Rosado is always a tough out, and Lemeiux has some pop. I wouldn't be surprised to see this go the distance or maybe a late stoppage due to Rosado's bleeding and cut issues that we've seen in the past. Either way, not a bad fight for this time of year.

PBF has never wanted the fight.  There's a 20-30% all along that he might lose, and that's enough for him to put obstacle after obstacle in the way of the fight.

Go 55-45  Maybe 60-40.  67/33 is akin to the offer of a flat 40 Mill a few years ago.  A nonstarter.  Now we'll get to see Floyd-Khan and Manny-Vargas...fights that no one wants to watch.
