TBW needs someone to throw to. Oakland needs a tight end. I'm more bullish on Jace Amaro than most. I know blocking is considered his weakness but I think he can learn that skill in time. He's not a joker TE, but he isn't exactly Gronk 2.0 either. I think he's the best pure receiving tight end in the draft aside from Ebron.

Amaro isn't a finished product and he has a lot to learn due to how TT used him. He's a project in some ways but this is Oakland and we care more about upside. I wondered about upgrading the O-line here instead but I don't like the receivers we have. I also thought about going secondary but I see Oakland as another year or two from competing anyway so why draft purely for need? They need a reliable receiving threat. Their TE situation is non existent. On mobile. Can someone pm?

The Panthers are looking to move up in the 2nd round.  Obviously we would be trading picks not taken in the second round but I'm willing to look at offers

The Snyders will take CJ Mosley. He's not flashy, he's not super athletic, but he can do it all and gets it done. He's a three down player, play caller, and a leader. I think he's similar to Lavonte David or Sean Lee.

PM sent.

I was wondering how far he would fall

The Falcons are trading the 37th and 147th picks to Chicago for the 51st and 82nd pick. We won't get to use the 82nd here, of course, it's a good move for a team that could use a talent injection in a bunch of areas.

67YAZ, you are on the clock.

Bears select Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State.

Good dealing with you, SN.

DL is a position of high need for the Bears.  Jay Ratliff was an emergency replacement for Henry Melton, and while he played well enough for the Bears to bring him back on a 2 year deal (only $600k guaranteed), they're not going to make the playoffs relying on him to play 1200 snaps next to some rotation of Paea/Roberston/Collins.

So Jernigan is an excellent fit and great value this far down.  He's an immediate favorite to win a starting DT spot and to play NT in our 3-man front nickel & dime packages.  Some have cast him as a tweener - too stout to be a penetrating 3-tech, too small to hold up as a classic DT.  But the Bears see him as just right to bring more physicality and flexibility to our modified cover-2 (i.e., this won't be Tampa-2 Lovie Style anymore).  Plus, the kid's got great athleticism and he's only 21.  After a year in our strength & conditioning program and with NFL-caliber coaching, he'll be a force in the middle of the line that opens up lanes for our LBs and leaves our DEs with a lot of 1-on-1s.

In review - the Bears bring in significant talent at the two positions of greatest need: safety and DT.   I think every Bears fan and everyone in the organization would have to be happy with this, even if this draft didn't break ideally for the team (Donald at #14 and Deon Bucannon at #51 would have been perfect).  Now it's on Mel Tucker to form these guys into the foundation of a new "Monster of the Midway."

Looking forward - Bears still need to find an heir to Lance Briggs (Carl Bradford or Adrian Hubbard in the 4th?), an heir for Roberto Garza, a developmental QB, a rotation RB behind Forte, and depth at CB and OL.  But none are major needs at the moment, so the Bears can draft for value the rest of the way.

Edit - Infield PM'd.

That assumes they have a clear #1 on their board -- which may not be the case.

Sure he's moved up for Hightower and Jones but the past history tells me he'd rather take chances on #2, #3, #4 on their board on later rounds with more picks, no?
Trading down doesn't necessarily mean the Pats don't have a clear #1. In War Room, Holley describes how the Pats traded down twice from 22 to 27, but still took their #1 guy, Devin McCourty. Holley describes (in Patriot Reign) a conversation Belichick had with Jimmy Johnson, where Johnson advised Belichick to make a realistic list of the guys he wants and make moves to get them as much as possible. Sometimes those are moves up, and sometimes they're moves down.

With the 38th pick, the Bucs take Gabe Jackson - G - Mississippi St. He's a house, 6'3", 340, with good athleticism crazy long arms 82+ inches.  Should fit in nicely next to Anthony Collins on the left side of the line. He's supposedly a bright guy, son of a coach, and a quick learner, and I'm thinking Lovie is going to want to run the ball a lot.

If both Jernigan and Hageman were available when Patriots pick for real in May, and BB goes with Hageman, I'd think there'd be a small riot. Or at least a vigorous handkerchief waving.

I don't think Jernigan is a fit. The Pats like mammoth nose tackles that can two-gap; Jernigan's a better fit on a D-line where he can one-gap. I don't think he has the skill set to play 3-tech either. I think 67YAZ did a good job detailing how he would fit into the Bears' front (and he's nice value at 37), but I don't see the same fit with the Pats. Hageman has a lot more of the physical attributes they seem to look for.

With the 39th overall pick, the Jaguars select QB Derek Carr(6'2" 213 lbs) of Fresno State.  Carr represents a player who I can sit for a year or two behind Chad Henne and let him develop.  Carr has a rocket arm and possesses good athleticism represented by his 34" vertical and 4.6 40.  I think he compares very favorably to Blake Bortles and represents good value at #39.

The Niners are also looking to move up (for Stephon Tuitt). 56 and 61 are available, but I'd need a third rounder coming back to make it fair.

With the 40th pick the Vikings select Dee Ford DE - Auburn

A little undersized for the 4-3 DE role, but has some great pass rushing skills. Mike Zimmer should have no problem finding a role for him and will help filling the hole Jarred Allen's departure created. Yet again the Vikings were aiming for a QB here (Derek Carr) however they will have to wait for the later rounds to fill that void.

This is going pretty good, why don't we go 3 rounds. It will make the trading of picks a little more fun since people could actually use 3rd picks they trade for.

I'd be down for this. And if anyone wants to drop out, I've got no problem picking up another team (as I'm sure others would, as well).

With the 41st pick, the Packers select SS Jimmy Ward(5'11" 193 lbs) of Northern Illinois.  Ward is an ideal fit for what the Packers need as they severely lack a presence at safety.  He's versatile enough to both come up and support in the run game and also good enough in coverage to stick him back there in Cover 1.  His footwork and technique could also find putting him in press man.  I think I've found a Day 1 starter.

The Panthers have made another trade

The Panthers send their recently acquired pick #43 and their #90 to the 49ers in return for picks #56 and #61

Wait am I in control of the Colts too? I didn't sign up for that.

The Colts second round selection is available in exchange for a new owner.

Or an over the hill runningback.

@Phragle - You might want to wait for the 42nd pick to  be taken first

Even if the guy spills who he's trading up for? He already telegraphed the move.

Edit: Changed the above. Although, I really think it would be hilarious.

Why? Who cares? This is a purely intellectual exercise. There aren't even bragging rights on the line here.

I think we should be able to. What's the point of doing this if we're not going to discuss it? There's no reason to be overly competitive about an Internet mock draft.

Yup, we are all not only picking players but also discussing potential alternative selections, whether picks are need/bpa, other teams that could have used player(s), etc.

The only reason I'm backing off is because an all blacked out Yukon just drove by and then a jet flew over my house.
