I was reminded very recently, that I had started last year's photo thread and we might not want to mess with the karma (ala successful Game Threads).  Who am I to challenge good karma, so I hope others don't mind if I go ahead and start this thread up.  I would like to give a shout out to Guapo's Toenails, though, for that great photo of the new 2013 banner on the face of Fenway above home plate.  You should really re-post that in this thread, Guap!!

I swung by the Park for a few updated pics...have to say, there's still some work to be done, but I have zero doubts that everything will be in amazing shape by the time April 4th swings around!  So, without further ado...some pics from Fenway...

First since the Green Monster tickets went on sale today, I had to take this one:

The view from behind foul pole on the Green Monster:

The infield remains covered (as it should with the cold temps and a possibility for more flurries coming up), but in just a couple more weeks, I expect it to be as green as ever!

The seats await...soon...

(If you click on any of these pics, you'll be able to scroll down for a few other photos on my Flickr page.)

Here's to another fun year of watching the Red Sox (everywhere) and enjoying time at Fenway...

That's rather interesting...I wonder why they'd add something like that to the front row outside the dugouts, now.  Are they charging more for those seats this year?

Great snow pics, Guap!!  I love seeing the Park in the winter!

Agreed! And thanks to Anne for the lucky thread start!

Of course, I'm promptly going to expand the thread to Fenway South... and start with some folks who aren't Red Sox, but members of the Wounded Warriors softball team (who played at jetBlue)

(So he'd catch the ball with the glove--toss the ball to himself in the air--whip the glove off--catch bare-handed--and throw in.)

I was in the Fenway area on Saturday, so I swung by the Park...they've got banners up, and there's even a new one on the corner of Van Ness & Yawkey Way:

I didn't get inside the Park, so I haven't seen the progress there...but am sure everything will look amazing by Friday.  At the moment, I don't have a ticket, so I'm not sure if I'll get there...hopefully, there'll be loads of other SoSHers there, though, and you'll share your pics?  And I'm hoping we'll see some from Baltimore too...

This is probably as good a place as any to ask my question. Anyone have any knowledge of whether or not I'll be allowed to bring a collapsible monopod into Fenway with my camera bag? I brought one in for the pre-parade event in the fall but security wasn't exactly strict that day.

I haven't brought one in for a couple if years, but no one ever said anything. I ended up feeling that when the park was full, it was harder to keep the camera out of other folks' sightlines with a monopod. Tripods are definitely out.

That said, I always wonder Opening Day if there will be new rules.

The club's security guidelines say, in part: (no) flag poles, sign poles, brooms (or any other similar props that may be dangerous or cause injury to other fans), any commercial audio/visual equipment...

That's a couple a reasons that I would not try to bring one in. It's possible that you could get it in the gate but it is also possible that you could be asked to leave if you were found using it and someone complains or the usher in your section is officious. Some time back, I was stopped at the gate at a spring training game because I had a "professional" camera with me and I had to leave it in the car. Minor league clubs are usually much more relaxed about such things.

Thanks for the replies. I was only going to do pregame stuff and then pack it up anyway. I'm not too concerned about getting booted for the camera/lens, I'll just hope for a sunny day and fast shutter speeds.

Love the flag shot you got Peter...along with your others!!  Great angle on the past trophy wins!  And FenwayPaul - love yours as well...that one with Menino and Walsh is really terrific as is Middlebrooks coming in on his homerun...but I loved Dempster and his son...they were so fun!!

I took a bunch and will be posting some on my flick page (https://www.flickr.com/photos/ah_pics/) over the next few days...but here are a couple of the earlier pics...first a few from the scene around the park:

And then a couple from right before things got started with the Ring Ceremony:

The Dropkick Murphys walk out to the field:

The last couple of banners:

The 2013 trophy:

And Shane hanging out pretty much by himself...it looked as if he wanted to stay a bit clear of others.   But it also looked as if he was thrilled to be there:

Nicely done, ChinaCat...love the one with Pedro saluting.  He's just awesome!

A couple more for this morning...will need to get to others later...the 2013 banner:

And the first of the tributes - this one to the surivors of the Marathon bombing:

After they dropped off the rings, they walked to the Sox dugout and shook hands with all of the players.  Ortiz gave hugs and warmly chatted with each person...and they clearly appreciated it, as well as the wishes from all of the other Sox:

My shots from the cheap seats.

Marathon families/victims coming in.

Pedroia greeted by Farrell

Lester gets his greeting.

Nava being happy.

Gomes all serious.

Checking out the bling

Typhoid Shane. Don't shake his hand!

Little Dempster

OK, this is a shitty picture - 450 ft. away, zoomed all the way in after a bunch of breakfast beers will do that. However, I think this is the moment that Ortiz got a glimpse of either the WS ring or his special MVP ring.

Pedey pulling his weight.

The youngest Walsh child I believe?

Sox/firefighter receiving line.

I tried like hell to get a fully unfurled flag shot. This is the best I could get.

Those are awesome, Brad!  Love what you got there of Papi - he's totally saying "whoa"!  And the angle you had of the team, as members came out is excellent...even getting the elbow bumping with Victorino...great!  I tried to get something of the banner on the flag pole, but it just didn't seem to have any wind holding it up when I was looking over there...glad you got that shot!

I have a few more to share before heading off to bed...first, as the music changed to "Three Little Birds" you knew it was going to be Victorino's turn to run out...and I caught Dr. Steinberg singing along before Shane was motioned out...it was very fun:

Henry & Werner inspecting one of the rings:

One of my most favorite sights was Ryan Dempster and his son...if you click on this next one, you can scroll down and see a couple of other pics of them:

Papi turned around after receiving his 2 rings...so I grabbed a couple of pics:

The Boston firemen make their way onto the field:

And being met by the players:

And the flyover - Marc, I think you were the one who'd mentioned how great these Coast Guard helicopters are and you were right...it was a pretty cool flyover:

I love this picture. Opening Day, while meant to celebrate the Sox and their championship, seemed to also be a day to honor victims of the tragedies that have taken place over the last year. That is not a knock on the day- I thought it was perfect. This picture captures the day just as well and there isn't a Sox player to be seen.

One of my favorite things about Opening Day is knowing that so many people I know are there, and seeing photos from their vantage points. Thank you all for sharing!

I give the ceremony itself much higher marks than my own photoset--though I always count on folks like Anne to have a better eye for this sort of occasion than I have, and I was very happy to spot her at a great vantage point! I was very envious of you folks in the bleachers, as it seemed that everyone faced that way as they stood around center field. In any case, mine are a bit random!

It was a pity that John Farrell was so somber.

Love this. The 2004 banner dropped majestically, and the 2007 banner followed, but that 2013 banner took its own sweet time settling down.

Thanks, Kelly!  You're absolutely right - that's what is so much fun about looking back on these events with our fellow SoSHers...there are so many wonderful photos, capturing so much of the flavor of the event!  Where were you?  I was keeping my eyes open for you...figured you were there.  You got some great shots...the expressions on everyone's faces are terrific!  That one of the players with the rope to pull up the banner is hilarious.  And both Farrell and Ortiz had the best expressions!  Love the photo of Menino and Recchi, too!

I got a chance to go through the last of my pics...here are a few of the end of the pre-game festivities:

I do love that Celtic trophy:

It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since that first championship...wow, time sure does fly!

We had a company tour a couple of weeks back.  Only have this one up so far, but I thought some of you may like to see it since it's so different with the park empty.

A couple more

Kind of overbled the red in this one but I liked the framing of the Boston on the dugout

Not gonna lie, the filter is terrible. Just terrible.

What, you don't like the fluorescent lime green field color?

The point of that pic was simply that hot chocolate was selling like crazy due to the cold - but, yeah, I'm still learning how to use these apps.

To each his/her own.   Just thought SOME of you might enjoy the pics....

I'm more of a realist (don't really even like the HDR treatment), but that said, I think these all have a place.  They're more like a piece of art than a photograph and it's a lot of fun to experiment.  Happy to see them, Kev!!

And while I'm at it, should have commented earlier on some of those posted from SaintNick & Guapo...nicely done guys!!

I'll have some from last night, but probably won't get to them until the weekend...hope to see more...

Apologies in advance for the length of the post.

A few shots from the interview sessions they did before the '04 anniversary game.
PEDRO!!!

No idea why he has his tongue out here.

You sonofabitch!

A man of few words during the interviews.

I miss this smile.

Shockingly, Millar took over the discussion...

While wearing his spectacular boots.

And he didn't stop talking even after he got off the panel.

Timlin reacting when the number of appearances he made was referenced.

The "C" now stands for cookie monster apparently.

Trot hasn't been starving himself either.

Unlike Ellis and Gabe.

Damon still looking a bit dazed and confused.

Those are awesome! Really terrific access you had there...well done! How was the panel? I could hear a little bit when I was arriving at the park...sounded like a fair amount of Pedro chatting...

There weren't a ton of people there - the field boxes the length of the dugout were filled and about 1/4 - 1/2 of the loge boxes. As for the panel, the players were mostly commenting on one of three things:
-What they were up to now
-What it was like playing in Boston
-What the '04 team meant to them

Not a ton of new revelations but it was still cool. You got a lot of the "no place is like Boston" responses - Lowe talked about going over to the Dodgers and showing up at spring training figuring it's Dodgertown, similar to the Sox following and there were like 300 people there. A couple guys were talking about their kids: Timlin's son is now 17 and 6'2" which drew interest from a teenage girl in the audience; I think it was Embree or Myers who has a kid that is 6'8". Manny was pimping for a job with the Sox and he along with Damon, Pedro and Burks were signing a ton of stuff people had.

I heard Millar talking in the booth with Joe Castiglione, and he was saying he'd been in the clubhouse and was telling the team about how special it is to play in Boston and also how quick the time passes...very fun to hear...must have been that much more fun at that panel.

Nice rainbow pics and well done on those sequences, Cha Cha!

I'm behind on my own editing, but finally have some pics to share from the 2004 tribute night...first, the banner:

I zoomed in where the guys were waiting behind the banner...pretty sure that was Gabe Kapler holding the camera:

And here he is on his way across the outfield:

Pokey Reese looked like he could start that night:

A fun pic of Pedro & Lowe:

Curt & his son greet the other members of the team:

I loved this sequence with Big Papi & Pedro:

And Manny...

As they walk off...

There are a few more on my Flickr page - https://www.flickr.com/photos/ah_pics/

A very fun night!

A few that I took after leaving the walk-off victory over the Twins Wednesday afternoon (fantastic game).  Yeah, yeah, I 'snapseeded' these shots a bit - but eased up a bit more on the filters, so as to not make anyone dizzy or sick.  Hope you enjoy them - and if you don't, well, that's your prerogative!  Most are self-explanatory.

Oil Can Boyd, in the green shirt in case you couldn't spot him, focuses on the game from the adjacent suite on the EMC level.

Yeah, the drummers there has a very retro vibe to it.  Glad you included.

I was at McCoy yesterday and saw some familiar faces. (especially our own sittingstill who was there shooting officially).

WMB grounding into a double play but didn't seem to get him down

Saw Drake Britton's rad mohawk before the game walking around, he made it into the game.

Mookie Betts celebrated with his teammates after the game

The real hero of the game though was Travis Shaw, whose 3 run bomb was the only scoring play for the PawSox in their 3-2 win
