--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are only 25 days until the Boston Marathon, and four SoSH Running Dogs are training and raising money for three great charities. We've received a lot of support so far, but it's crunch time now, so let's jump start things with some swag. Yes, it's time for AUCTIONS.

Let's keep this simple and do it like we've done in the past. If you have an item you'd like to contribute and auction off, start a thread right here. Start the Topic Title with AUCTION, briefly describe the item, and provide a close date (probably no later than April 15th), like so:

AUCTION - Two Opening Day Bleacher Seat Tickets - Closes 4/15

Then in the post, please describe the item or service, and set a minimum bid. Be creative! We've had a wide variety of items in past auctions, ranging from tickets and memorabilia to tooth-whitening strips, personal training, and estate planning. I've already gotten pledges for four great items from some of our most talented members.

Additional rules:

1. It is the job of the auction starter to close the thread and declare the winner.
2. Anti-poaching - If someone bids in the last 5 minutes before closing, the last two bidders will make final "sealed" bids via PM.
3. Once a winner is declared, PM me and I'll give you donation instructions.
4. I will confirm that the donation has been received.
5. It's up to buyer and seller to negotiate delivery.

And just to make a real throwdown appeal to SoSH pride, here's our recent fundraising history:

2010: $30,000+ to the Jimmy Fund
2011: $40,000+ to the Jimmy Fund in honor of John Wells
2012: $44,700 to SIC for the STATS AIDS Truck
2013: $16,000 to the One Fund
2014: $3,250....so far....

The Team:

bosoxgrl and and I are running for the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge Team, which raises funds to support the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research (like this).

Spelunker is running for the Massachusetts General Hospital Pedi Hematology and Oncology Team, which raises funds to support cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospitals youngest cancer patients.

Preacher is running for the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation, which supports programs that aid the youth and families of the New England region by assisting programs that foster cultural diversity, education, family and health. Among other programs, it supports the blood and platelet donation center at Dana-Farber.

And of course, we're still taking cash donations:

I'm a little bit confused - are we to start a separate 'AUCTION' thread right on the main page (seems a bit awkward) or are we supposed to simply respond to your initial post with an AUCTION ITEM 'POST', as opposed to a new 'thread.'

Thanks!  (sorry to be dense, just want to do this right - I feel like we usually have AUCTION items held together in one place - but on the main page won't they end up mixed in all over the place?)  Not a big deal, just want to be sure.

I think we need separate threads, or it'll be a mess of bids. If the dopes want to group the threads together, or pin them, they will.
