Shawaryn split last season between Greenville and Hi-A Salem, his first full season in the minors after a brief 15 IP in Lowell in 2016. He started 26 games across both leagues, going 8-7 with a 3.76 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 169 Ks in 134.2 innings pitched (53.1 in Greenville, 81.1 in Salem). This performance put him in the lower half of most Sox Prospect Top 10 lists during the offseason.

He was promoted to Portland to start this season and has made two starts so far, he's 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA and 8 Ks in 10.2 IP. According to SoxProspects, he's a fastball-slider-changeup pitcher, with his FB sitting in the low-90s, topping out at 95. Ultimately projects to be a backend rotation starter or a bullpen arm. Given the thinness of the Sox farm system, he bears watching by default.

Shawaryn has pitched well, with only one poor start so far this year (4 ER in 5.2 innings at Hartford on 5/4, tagged with the loss). Yesterday he picked up a win at New Hampshire, pitching 7 innings and giving up 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 8 batters.

Season totals (6 starts): 2-3, 2.88 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, .218 BAA, 29K in 34.1 IP.

Shawaryn had one awful start on 5/14 at Reading (5 IP, 7 ER on 7 hits and 4 BB), since then he's pitched well in 3 starts, but not enough to pick up any wins.

Season totals (10 starts): 2-5, 3.67 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, .236 BAA, 51Ks in 56.1 IP.
