Once it arrives, please let us know how you made out!Weather has delayed my 2021 Topps Hobby Box, not sure when I'm getting it now. Dumb winter storm.
That one ended up going for $210 which makes me feel good because I bought the same card a few months back for $130 and I thought I overpaid at the time. There's a PSA 10 Gold Nomar going for like 70 bucks right now:

I picked one up for $125 at a local shop yesterday. The hit was an Ozzie Albies jersey relic. Also got a throwback Ortiz, a whole bunch of the base rookie set, a Bohm 35 year anniversary version, Eduardo Escobar /70, and Leody Taveras silver refractorWeather has delayed my 2021 Topps Hobby Box, not sure when I'm getting it now. Nice. I went with a Jumbo Hobby, so will get an auto and 2 relics. Hoping for good hits, but already got the /199 Bohm so might have tapped out my 2021 Topps luck.I picked one up for $125 at a local shop yesterday. The hit was an Ozzie Albies jersey relic. I've considered opening a combination card shop/board game shop up here. It's about a 45 minute drive to the nearest of either of those from us, which is juuust a little too close for comfort right now. Maybe in a year or 2 when I'm completely out of debt.I’d kill to be able to open a card shop. My forever dream job that will never, ever, happen.
Agreed, and scary. Being retired military it's pretty easy for me to get a small business loan to get started, which is nice, but I'd really like to be totally debt free before I do it so that if we had a bad month or whatever, it would be covered by my retirement pay. It's definitely a huge commitment. There are no card shops working 45 minutes of me but just the thought of renting space, somehow acquiring enough inventory etc is just too daunting
Yes very scary, and I don’t have the benefit of having served and any retirement income coming in. Most likely if I were ever going to open anything it’d be to open a pastry shop for/with my wife. At least I know she’d qualify as a female owner for a loan, and she’s a tremendous baker. And if the business failed miserably I could eat away my sorrows.Agreed, and scary. That documentary I posted goes in depth on the making of the Griffey. It's really cool.Opened up one of the sealed 89 UD sets I have. A shame the hair has those white spots otherwise the card is pretty great.

If you burn yours mine will skyrocket. So go for it.I have a pile of cards from the 1985-95 era (Topps, Donruss, Score, Fleer, Upper Deck...). My general understanding is most of them are basically valueless since about a bajillion gazillion were printed. Is there much risk in skimming through them and getting rid of the ones that are a) in less than stellar condition, and/or b) for common to bad players? I don't think the world is ever going to be looking for a bunch of Score '92 Luis Sojo cards. Seriously, I know I've got 3-4 of those. They're not exactly hurting anyone sitting on a shelf but holding onto them for another three decades seems a bit silly.
There's a charity called "Commons For Kids" that takes in common cards and, well, donates them to kids -- at shelters, underfunded schools, community centers, etc.I have a pile of cards from the 1985-95 era (Topps, Donruss, Score, Fleer, Upper Deck...). Oh shit, I need to do this. I have some relics that I could send as well that aren't worth anything to me.There's a charity called "Commons For Kids" that takes in common cards and, well, donates them to kids -- at shelters, underfunded schools, community centers, etc.

[If I just caused that other goddamned jingle to get stuck in your head, I apologize.]
Yeah that greenwell was a card I bought in Boston in the summer or 93. Was a big deal for me at the time haha.I loved Greenwell! I have that 87, as well as his 87 Fleer Update glossy one as well.
Vaughn is another of my all time favorites.Man I love seeing the Hitdog in there. Time was he carried this franchise. That Devers card is awesome looking too. Real old school look. I don't collect anymore but I might go fishing for that one online.
No. All bad.Any luck with the pink refractors?
Would you know if there's one of these in CT/RI/MA/NH?There's a charity called "Commons For Kids" that takes in common cards and, well, donates them to kids -- at shelters, underfunded schools, community centers, etc.

According to their website it’s $20 to ship up to 5,000 cards in a certain USPS box.Would you know if there's one of these in CT/RI/MA/NH?
Would love to get involved but shipping commons doesn't make much sense to me. It seems they are in KY
Stuff like this turns me off:Things that have turned me off from collecting in the last 20-ish years
A. Grading and the costs and time delay
B. Tertiary grading (non-PSA/Beckett) companies
C. Reprints
D. Parallel sets rather than inserts that are identifiable.
E. Topps/Bowman monopoly
F. 35th year anniversary looks (I know most people like this, I don't)
G. TOO MANY sets and its corollary not being able to find cards/sets in Becketts, increased use of star/semi-star and not listing individual players
H. Inflation of monthly Beckett costs and supplies (I could be wrong on latter's existence)
Probably a couple more that I'm momentarily forgetting.
