I look forward to not being able to afford a Bowman 1st of Marcelo Mayer in the near future.

Damn yea we'll need to get on some mad breaks as soon as that product releases.
I could be wrong, but I would guess he’ll probably be in Bowman Draft.

2020 Draft released in December of 2020.

Would be a crazy scramble for that #1 overall pick in a break draft haha. Screw it let's just all save up for individual cases and Zoom the breaks!

You think the Blaze Jordan market is crazy? Wait until you see what the Sox getting a 1-1 talent in the pipeline looks like.

Hard to give a direct comp, but there’s a non-auto 2020 Shohei Stadium 1/1 Superfractor listed at 6,000 on eBay here:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/363466284361

Also the /25 of your card is currently listed with a bid of $575 here:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/255055001220

I would say at the very least, you’re looking at several thousand dollars and should absolutely be putting it in a sleeve or a case and not let your little one slobber on it if possible.

Sounds fine to me. I keep most of my stuff in a drawer. Anywhere where it’s out of the line of fire from kids or pets should be good.

Beautiful card! Congratulations! 1 of 1's are inherently tough to value. You can see what some of the other Ohtani 1/1 autos have sold for here:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=ohtani+auto+1/1&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc&LH_All=1

If you see "Best offer accepted" on a Buy It Now, you can find the actual accepted price at slabwatch.com

And yeah, keep kids and pets away!
Oh that's a cool filter. I'll keep this one safe it's a such a nice card for an amazing player.

Umm someone tell me this is not worth freaking out about.

What do I do with something like this???

https://photos.app.goo.gl/Q4R26yKRFaxV2e2T6
Super rad! I’m not good at this, but looks like there are 5 different Ohtani cards in the product so 5 different 1/1. What are the odds 2 of them are with SoSH members?

No clue on pricing. Mine is a non auto 1/1. My friend who is super into cards said it might take time, but there are enough Ohtani mega collectors out there to list it for like $1,500 and see what happens. I brought it into a local card guy and he said the same. So far I received a $500 offer but I’m waiting.

if you list it, I would say maybe in the $5,000 range and just see if you get offers? I might be way off, I really don’t know. It’s an auto chrome super tractor which is generally the most sought after 1/1.

Those photos should also be captioned, “Oh the Places You’ll Go…To the Moon!!!”

As others have said, it's inherently hard to value a 1/1, but 1/1 superfractors are the creme of the crop. Based on what's sold recently, I think the best comparison is probably the 2019 Topps Finest 1/1 superfractor auto. It was listed at $11,999.00, and sold for $10,500.00

https://www.slabwatch.com/itm/284322513031?hash=item4232f14087:g:7pAAAOSwlTZgqnEQ&nma=true&si=RVEz32RSxMH5hILR6XDXKEuWNjg%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

That was a graded 9.5, but IMO, grading cards like this can hurt as much as help. I regularly sell cards with no grade for prices higher than something that is graded a 9, because folks are willing to gamble they can get it graded at a 10, which makes them very profitable.

If it were me, and I wasn't keeping it (I generally turn everything over, and only try to keep very specific cards, but that hasn't worked, as I've now got over a million cards to get rid of), I'd list it with one of the larger auction houses, no frills, no list price, just get it listed with Probstein or PWCC and let them market and sell the card. Usually, whatever they sell for in an auction is the best price you're going to get, and they deal with all of the risk with getting it listed, shipped and collecting from the buyer.

These unslabbed cards that you’re selling at a premium, is it via eBay, BM, Probstein, private sales or somewhere else?

Wow, heck of a Bowman Hobby Box today. Hits included: 91 Rutschman Chrome, #/125 Aqua Shimmer Drew Waters,#/50 paper Elehuris Montero and Paul Godlschmidt, #4/25 Orange 1991 Bowman Royce Lewis, Atomic Refractor Kody Hoese, #/150 Top 100 Drew Waters Atomic Refractor, #/199 Fushia Shimmer Brennan Davis, and #/250 Purple Refractor Angel Martinez 1st Bowman Auto.

No "mega" hits, but probably the most mini hits I've gotten in a single Hobby Box.

Yeah for sure. But it seems like graded always sells for more.
If it grades high enough, yes. A card like that graded at an 8 will probably sell for less than if it's not graded at all. You're also waiting months, and months and months for it to come back from a grading service right now, and by then, 100 more Ohtani 1/1's will hit the market (these cards are at their peak as close to the release date of the product as possible), so you're probably losing money waiting for it to come back.

I'd be comfortable saying that card, ungraded, will sell for just as much as one that grades an 8.5-9. You may get a little more as a 9.5, and a lot more as a 10, but again, you have to wait for them to come back, and then hope the grade actually comes in that high. Because once it's slabbed, it can be pretty hard to break it out of the slab and sell it unslabbed without damaging the card (or running into a buyer who knows how to use the grading database to see it's already been graded once).

For sure.
Just break the slab if graded. Though I guess with a 1/1 there will be a record of it haha

Finally opened those 91 Upper Deck. Opened half the other day, and then the rest today.

Was stunned to find this:

So I did the stupidest thing...

I bought a Rickey Henderson RC for my brother. Put it in a mailer...and used Paypal shipping (which I always use, and my wife uses for her business) and shipped it off.

Checked the tracking...and SOMEHOW, instead of CANADA, I put CONGO.

Now - I'm HOPEFUL they look at the address and see the Postal Code and put two and two together. But I don't know. I tried to replicate the error - and CONGO isn't even on their fucking list of countries. So I'm like...what the fuckkkkkk. The price was the same as shipping to canada normally, too. So I'm so confused.
Update on this. It finally reached my brother. Of course after I bought him another one

That's awesome! Nice pull. It's too bad he decided to try to play baseball and flood the market with baseball cards or else this one would be worth a lot more. I've got two of these in my parent's house somewhere, myself, and it's always been one of my favorites.

Forget Ebay, grade this via PSA and send it to Goldin, but you might want to hold it for a while especially if it hits a 10. Pay the $300 or whatever it costs to fast track it right now. 1/1 like this for a superstar will never go down, unless he breaks everything and has to stop playing.

I know some people with Goldin. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you need any help.

Btw, have you all seen video games? I mean holy crap, talk about a hot and growing market. I have been collecting for fun over a decade and started using it as more of an investment in 2019 and legitimately just semi-retired off of them. Absolutely bananas stuff.

Another supplies question. I bought a nice box with a flip-top, and it holds cards nicely in toploaders or penny sleeves, but the top isn't high enough to accomodate the one touch holders. And I got a (relatively cheap) slotted top-loading box that holds the graded card holders but is too wide for the one touch.

Is there any good solution that will hold both the graded holders and the one touch well? I'm not planning on having a huge number of either, let's say something that will hold 100 or so and mix/match. I've seen a variety of stuff on Amazon/eBay, but don't know what's any good. I have some Amazon credit so anything on there would be preferred.

edit found a local guy on ebay who does pelican style cases that can accommodate both if you arrange the foam the right way

Randomly browsing this thread. You're going to have to help me on this one. Is this post sarcasm, or am I missing something about this card?
It’s a short print that Upper Deck did after MJ did a practice with the White Sox.

I read that the odds are somewhere between one in every case roughly. So to get it out of a random eBay box is lucky. It’s one of my favorite old cards and I bought one recentlybecause I thought there was no way i would pull it.

Just a pretty cool feeling.

Okay. Thanks for reminding me that it's labelled an "SP". I guess I thought that was a ruse back in the day because I remembered them being incredibly common. But I obviously wasn't doing a statistical study back then.

If it’s not numbered, the value could change pretty significantly based on the condition/grade. PSA is so far backed up right now, unless you pay for their highest end service, you probably aren’t getting back for 6-12 months. You could go with a smaller service company like SGC and get it back in a few weeks if your plan is to sell now while his market is white hot.

But if it were me I’d probably send to SGC and hold for years if you get a 9 or 10

Thanks for the info. I really didn't know exactly what I was holding.
Some of the others around here know a hell of a lot more than me. But eBay completed auctions is your friend. If it’s a 2018 Topps Chrome refractor, it looks like about $200 raw (ungraded), $300ish PSA 9 and $800-900 PSA 10 gem mint.

Here's something that I don't know if I know and I'm hoping someone here can set me straight on. When "game used" cards started coming out the deal was that the little patch in the card was from a game-used jersey of the player. In looking at some recent cards I don't see the same language about that being the case, and I'm wondering what exactly is this patch supposed to be from. I read something online about how Panini will lay out 25 or whatever jerseys in front of a player who will then put them on one-by-one for less than a minute each and that these patches are from those. Is that what's going on with current players and these game used cards? Are there any brands that still use (supposedly) game-used stuff in their cards?

There is a difference between "Player Worn" and "Game Worn/Used".... if the item is "Player Worn" then it is what you describe above. If it is "Game Worn/Used" then it was actually used in a game. At least that's my understanding of it.

Logan's Dad has it right. Game used means worn in a game. Player used means worn by the player (usually at some signing event or other exhibition or conference). When it comes to any jersey/relic cards, the key to value is the number of colors on the patch. A plain white patch (I call them tissues) is worth very little unless it's someone like Trout or Ohtani, in most cases. But they have lower numbered "patch" cards, usually taken from a part of the jersey where multiple colors or sponsor logos are located. Those can be worth good money based on the look of the patch alone. Same goes for cards that have patches and autos. The patches that have more colors along with the auto, particularly an RPA (rookie patch auto) will be where the money is.

There are some higher end products that have more game used stuff than the lower end stuff. Flawless (which goes for thousands of dollars a box for about 12 cards), National Treasures, Museum, etc. will have a ton of game used stuff...
