Clearly Belichick paid off someone with the NFL to screw with the headsets

Clearly a guy as smart as Belichick has figured out how to jam the other teams comms.

I actually heard that they designed their stadium to interfere only with the visitors sidelines communications.

A patriots employee was seen going into the bathroom with, among other things, a walkie talkie.

One of the Pats' electricians probably diverted half the power to the chair reserved for the Commissioner, just in case he showed up. Missed opportunity.

Relax, people. The NFL handles the frequency and the Patriots had problems too. The only reason this becomes a story is because it involved NE, shit like this happens literally every week. There won't be an investigation, that's crazy talk.

Seriously people, take a walk. Start smoking cigarettes. Do something. Release that tension.

I mean it's going to be hell because the pats can't win. It's either the pats are cheaters or the NFL is covering for the patriots cheating. I seriously hope the pats are not accused of something after every fucking game.

Belichick has actually talked about communication breakdowns at the end of the Super Bowl, and we've heard literally dozens of reports of this stuff over the years. These games are massive events. The production trucks for primetime games take up an acre. There are multiple radio teams and a massive relay tower broadcasting games over a 100 or mile mile radius. There are 65,000 cell phones in a small area. There are so many radio waves oscillating theough the air every second, it's a wonder that intricate devices meant to act as 21st century walkie talkies work at all in that environment. And they often don't. The NFL had to make a rule requiring teams to turn their equipment off when their opponents' equipment doesn't work. When they have to make a rule, for fuck's sake, it's obviously because this is something that happens. It's not even unusual. Collinsworth and Michaels have probably called a half dozen or more games where it has happened. it's totally a thing. Everyone who watches football has heard of it. There is nothing to fucking see here.

Yeah, what are people smoking? I just watched it for the first time, and that's not tame at all. He's acting *pissed* and clearly implying shenanigans.

Also, his presser makes the NFL statement look really bad. Was it only "during the first quarter" or "for most of the first half"?

I'm sure Tomlin is exaggerating because he's pissed, but that discrepancy adds fuel to the fire for conspiracy theorists.

Sorry, I do use Twitter but maybe I don't understand how it works. Aren't you able to un-follow him and any other idiot who might make your Twitter feed "hell"?

Take control for fuck's sake. Either un-follow the people who bother you or brush it off.

The Pats can win. By winning. They did it tonight, in fact.

I can't believe I'm saying this but....the league actually handled this really well by quickly releasing a statement and providing an explanation.

There is hope for you yet, Roger.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick insisted after the game that his sideline was having issues with the headset communications as well.
“We had a lot of problems,” Belichick said. “We had to switch headphones a couple of times. The communication system wasn’t very good. We deal with that, it seems, weekly. [We] almost had to switch helmets with [Tom] Brady there at the end. Couldn’t get the plays into him. It was a problem all night.”

While conspiracy theorists were quick to want to blame the Patriots, according to the NFL, they do not control the headset frequencies. The league controls the headset communication between the coaches in the press box and on the field.

If you guys aren't laughing at how much the Pats are in the heads of babies like Tomlin, then you're really missing out. Just embrace it, guys.

Why are there always weather issues in New England? Rain, cold, wind, snow. The last time the Steelers played here it was also raining. Look at the AFCCG. You never hear about this crap in Indy.

There will be headset problems all across the league on Sunday, and for every Sunday the rest of the season.  Something tells me that we will not hear about those.

And yes, this just needs to be embraced.  No more defending them.  Just laugh it off and accept the hatred.  Because that's what it really comes down to.  Like GreyisGone said, the Pats are so far in teams heads that it's hilarious.  If teams are spending any extra time trying to figure out how we're cheating, then good for us.

From the SI piece: "Incidents that might be considered innocent snafus elsewhere are viewed more skeptically in Foxborough. Headset failures are not uncommon around the league—Sun Life Stadium in Miami, for instance, is notorious for frequency issues. But representatives from several teams told SI they have experienced problems with the coaches’ equipment at Gillette"

So it's common, there's at least one other stadium in which this happens often, but it happens in Gillette too, so cheating.

Frighteningly in depth piece from Deadspin on this:

@Deadspin: The Steelers aren't the only team to face headset outages against the Patriots. Looking into what happened tonight: http://t.co/VEPbvrQp5E
Takeaway: it's not quite cut and dried that the NFL owns the whole issue, and there is enough conflicting technical information and League procedures that the haters will have plenty of ammunition to keep this one going for a while.

Awesome.

The idea that not only the Pats would purposely jumble the Steelers' signals, but that they would do so in a game where the attention of the entire country is turned to them, after 8 months of being called cheaters, and that they'd pipe in the PATRIOTS RADIO BROADCAST in their headsets is so fucking hilarious I kind of want it to be true.

But if we DO hear about it, it's because the NFL is causing the problems on purpose to once again cover up for the Pats

We're nearing the point where everyone employed by the Patriots will need to wear a body camera with a live feed that goes to the other 31 teams to get them to shut up. Of course, they'd all complain that the video feed isn't high enough quality.

My favorite is Ben whining about the shift on the goal line.
Especially the part where Collinsworth speculated that the pats were illegally simulating snap counts because Ben was so pissed off, but it turns out he just didn't know that the pats were allowed to shift side to side.

ShiftGate and HeadsetGate, I like that the Patriots GPG ratio (Gates-per-game) is starting out strong so far this season (SSS though).  Will be tough to maintain through the whole year but I think they have it in them.

I hated all of this whining, but after this game I now see how much of an advantage it is for the Pats.

All these teams are afraid of everything they do. It must be cheating etc. I can't believe a single organisation can be in the heads of the other 31 teams this much. This is going to be a great season.

I love the fact that, not only is this paranoia using up valuable opponent bandwidth, it's giving every team a built-in excuse for losing and making it a self-fulfilling prophesy. As long as the Pats win and their opponents can console themselves and their fans by deflecting blame, everyone goes home happy!

The amusing thing is that on the Steelers first TD, on 3rd and goal from the 1, the right side of the Pats defensive line did the exact same thing and Collinsworth noted it might have cost them since the Steelers ran right where the Pats shifted away from.
