The game ends, as most Boston games have ended this year ever since Uehara became their closer, with the baby-faced pitcher striking out Holliday

Uh, no.

That was possibly the most useless piece yet posted by the usually fine folks at SOE.

Turns out that sometimes the things people think might happen in a baseball game don't happen. Who knew?!?

On the bright side we only had to wait seven weeks for the same quality of game recap and TV criticism we could have read in any newspaper the day after each game or in the game threads here while the games were being played.

The author is obnoxious.  I am not against sardonic pot-shotting by any means, but I didn't buy into it here.  The piece was not funny or interesting in any way, not to mention the fact that it's like almost two months stale.

Who cares?

In other news, we also got treated to this week's edition of 'Gwen Knapp Word Play'.

I gave up after the third paragraph and had little idea what the hell his point was.

That things happen in baseball you can't script and McCarver is bad at his job.

What?
I liked it. There was not a lot of insight beyond "TV coverage of sports is chaos in search of order." And certainly Jordan settled into his own trite, incorrect narratives. The last word I would use to describe the 2013 Red Sox is "dour".

However...if it's wrong to enjoy a McCarver-baiting recap of a World Series that ends in Glorious Victorie, I don't want to be right.

Jordan trying and failing to conceal his dislike for both teams made it unintentionally funny. And yes, anything that mocks McCarver can't be all bad. And I liked the ending.

Call me an irredeemable homer, but I couldn't make it through the lede.
I watched to have my beliefs verified. The 'Canes were tougher than the 'Noles in the fourth quarter. The Spurs played a superior, more selfless brand of basketball than the Lakers. The under-financed Rays played baseball as it was meant to be played, like fun-loving boys. The over-financed Yankees played the game without joy, like robber barons, only for money. The Red Sox played the game like mindless brats.
Were he to explain his assertion reasonably quickly, I may have found it humorous. Instead, it's a puerile insult that just sits there.

Pass.
