DirecTV will be providing a "standalone" Sunday Ticket, with all games viewable on Macs and iOS devices. You do not have to be a DirecTV subscriber to subscribe to this service.

Question mark in the title is due to the fact this hasn't been confirmed.

I purchased an online version for my PS3 a couple of years ago. The stream was poor and unreliable, but fortunately they charged me full price for the experience.

This is my understanding as well. This is a huge revenue stream for DirecTV (and a massive cost). Allowing people who can't get DirecTV to subscribe via online access provides incremental $$...but there's no way in hell they'd let you get this they'd let you circumvent the TV package if you're able to subscribe.
I checked - when I put in my current NYC address, it said I was eligible. When I put in my mailing address in the Boston suburbs, it said I was not. So this is just what they allowed before, except without the hassle of calling and trying to convince them that "really, my landlord won't let me get a dish."

A thousand times this. Last year EA Sports and DirecTV ran a promotion: buy Madden 25, get access to Sunday Ticket online. Among the devices I tested, it "worked" on Mac, PC, PS3, and iOS. MLB.TV is favorite product in America. It's ubiquitous, the streams are impeccable, and the things like multi-game views, "Park Only" audio and the ability to sync the radio and TV broadcasts are cherries on top. The ~$130 I pay for MLB.TV premium is money I happily pay each year.

Sunday Ticket online is the complete opposite of that. The servers are always full, the games are 5-10 minutes behind Twitter and the radio, and even when you can get on the picture is crap and unreliable. Even though I had access to it for free, by week 4 I was back at the bars watching games. Any time I was back home and thought I might throw on a game just because, it wasn't worth the aggrivation.

Until NFL and DirecTV step up their game, my advice would be do not buy. It's not worth the minutes you'll spend swearing at your TV each week for missing football.

I would much rather they give us a one team option over streaming.  I live in Colorado, and I cant bring myself to spend $240 on the Ticket since I don't watch any games outside of the Pats.  Now if you told me they were willing to allow me to have access to just the Pats broadcasts for $100 I most likely would do it

MLB.TV has been impeccable in years past, but it's been far from that this season. Just check out the thread on this site. That said, it's still not even close to the shitshow that were the DirecTV NFL streams last year, which didn't even work half the time. You're better off going to a bar every Sunday.

I feel like everyone entertaining the thought of dropping this kind of coin on Sunday Ticket is probably well aware of Slingbox, but...

Slingbox is the way to go here (provided you have a good relation with absolutely anyone at all back east who is reliable and trustworthy enough to pay their ((and, consequently, your)) cable bill on time).

I jumped on the opportunity to buy a refurbished Slingbox on LivingSocial for $49 earlier this year and had it shipped to my mother's house in MA. She has Comcast and I piggybacked on her account for ~$16/month to have full HD/DVR capabilities (though Moms is the shit and threw down six months as a gift) so that I (in CA) could record and stream whatever MA tv feed I wanted, whenever I want.

Slingbox is a streaming device that attaches to a cable box and, using a fancy "IR Blaster," allows you to remotely control and view the cable box using Slingbox's web app. The quality has been generally very good for baseball games (just shy of HD) and I'm excited to have a reliable, strong feed for football games in the fall. Considering my alternatives since moving to CA have been bars and/or illegal online streams, it's been a huge success for me so far.

For the last two seasons I have accessed NFL Gamepass, which allows you to watch any of the games on Sundays for free, just click on which ever game you want to watch live. I use a VPN which costs me $39.00 for six months which is more than enough to cover the season.

Last year I used Netherlands and New Zealand IP address' through the VPN. Gamepass was free in those countries.

1) I can hook up my laptop via HDMI to my big screen TV
2) I can use the NLF Gamepass app on my iphione and simply airplay to the TV

The quality is as good as MLB TV , slight buffering for the first 10 seconds or so then stabilizes, the picture is probably a notch below real HD but that's not a big deal, still high quality.

I'll be interested to see if this "workaround" still works for this season. Since I use VPNS for my work it's a sunk cost anyway. But still, high quality streaming for any games during the entire season for less than $40 is  no brainer.

I did that last year too, CP XL, but after some poking around today have pretty much confirmed that GamePass will not be free anywhere this year. I checked both Holland and New Zealand, both ask you to pay $270 for the full package.

I've read many instances where people have paid, using their real, US addresses, and had no problem watching all last year, so there's that, but no free ride this year, it looks like.

Like you said though, the streams really are HD quality, and you get ALL the games, not just Sunday afternoon.

Ive found stand alone Sunday ticket is great for tailgating for late afternoon games.

Much less useful at home if you have red zone given you'll be a couple of minutes behind.  I dont think Id get it if I wasn't going to games.

It's too bad Madden isn't offering the same deal they did last year in regard to Sunday Ticket. I know it wasn't perfect -- but I thought it was an amazing value for $50. I'll probably just hit up the sports bar again every Sunday like I did the year prior.

The absolut cheapest option apparently is to VPN to Brazil, order the package there and use the promo code "REP15". Final price is around 165 USD.

Unfortunately you can only pay with CC then (no Paypal option), so you better trust that VPN (I only have Hola available, so I don't wann use my CC).

The promo code works everywhere though and gives you 15% off.

anyone doing a shared account a la the mlb.tv stuff on this board?  I'd be interested, if so.
I'm in Europe and really only watching the early games usually, maybe the 4pm game for a bit if the Pats play. Just a little worried they lock the account if we log in from Austria (me) and then from whwerever you VPN to.

JohnnyK - I meant more of a shared Sunday Ticket account for people stateside.  I've never used a VPN, but if that works, I'm game for that as well.

Sorry for being a buzzkill, but DirecTV would have you believe that shared accounts aren't an option this year. From their FAQ:

I received a message saying that I am already logged in to NFL SUNDAY TICKET on another device. What does this mean?
You can log in to the NFL SUNDAY TICKET service on only one device at a time. If you'd like to switch to another device, you must log out of your current device before logging in to another.

It's hard for me to ignore my vitriol from July upthread, with Sunday so close. So help me, I'm thinking of splurging for the Console account. I expect ridicule when we're all hosed on Week 1 while the service craps the bed.

I did this last year too and it was good enough.  Now I can't even buy the streaming only DirectTV for full price ($240) - after doing this for 2 years now they say my location is ineligible (basically you now have to live in an apt or a select university).  May be back to either bars (ugh) or shitty Russian streams?

Update - what a joke.  I put in a San Francisco address (old apt. I used to live in).  Had to temporarily change the mailing address on my credit card to get it to process, but it worked to get the Sunday Ticket streaming only $199 version.
Looks like there are cheaper options with Gamepass, Hola unblocker etc but this app was ok for me last year across devices without messing with VPNs, etc.

I'm in on Max package - i was going to do console and get RedZone through cable but that's over $60 by itself this season so I figured I may as well spend a few bucks more for option of laptap or mobile if I need it. The way they did the packages this year was diabolical.

I just moved to Japan and have been trying to figure out how to do this.  At the moment I'm thinking NFL Game Rewind, since the average game is gonna be at 2AM or at best first thing in the morning when I won't have 3 hours to watch it live anyway.  Might even try the condensed game.  Regardless the quality will be way better than some of the crappy streams I've watched in the states the past few years.

If I get Sunday Ticket on my parents account in NH, can I stream it from my home in Austin via PC/iPad?
You could as of 2 years ago.  My brother had Sunday Ticket in Denver and I streamed it in Portland every weekend.  Since you're allowed to watch it anywhere they have no way of knowing you're not in NH so you should have no issues.

Also, it was only login at a time 2 years ago when I last used it so you'll need to make sure your parents and trying to watch it at the same time as you on an IP based device.

I signed up for this. Took me three tries for the login to work. I hope it's not very unreliable like it was last year. As of now, I'm in.

Thanks for those that posted in here.  I decided to go for the lowest package and just watch online (laptop), and I had no problems at all.  The feed occasionally got held up, but overall seemed to be good.  Being out of the market and able to watch the Patriots is great, as is the ability to see every game.  I have a smart-TV and didn't try watching it through that browser, but will try next week.

How did it word today?

It worked pretty well. It required a reboot twice but both times it picked right back the. The problem is that the stream is about 50-90 seconds behind, which seems like nothing unitl you follow along with a game thread. Then you realize how far behind it is.

I don't need the Red Zone b/c I have that through my cable. But it's still pretty good if case you want a third screen to watch another game.

This was my experience in previous years as well, which eventually lead to me constantly checking for updates on my phone at the end of games.

Just to add to the chorus: Week 1 was good! I'm watching via the PS3 on a wired connection (~60 MB/s down) and the feed was HD and steady. A couple times the audio would change (from loud to quiet) and once or twice the feed would skip (but always backwards, never forwards, so I never missed a play). Hopping between games, and hopping between games and big-play highlights was good. If you're going to watch 12 games a year, it averages out to about $19.91 a game. It's easier to rationalize if you're watching several games.

As mentioned, the game is seconds behind. It's noticeable when friends are texting/tweeting the outcomes of plays before you've seen 'em. But if you're only interested in watching the game (and don't care about following fantasy/social media/texts in real time)... week one was good. If performance is this good throughout, I'll be a happy customer.

This probably isn't the best thread to bump but it's Sunday Ticket related and it's that time of year again....

I called in to remove my auto-bill/auto-renewal for the NFL package this years.  I then told the customer service representative that I actually wanted to cancel DirecTV all together.  I'm no longer under contract with them and the only reason I have DirecTV is for the Sunday Ticket.  "Times are tight right now and my wife is making me get rid of it".  Fwiw, I'm not married but they don't know that.

In any case, they transferred me to Customer Retention and after just a few minutes they gave me the package for free (and actually took off $20/month for all programming for six months).  I've been a DirecTV customer for over 15 years so maybe that helps but I'm pretty sure they're willing drop or remove the fee in many cases regardless.

Supposedly, the early you call in to negotiate the Sunday Ticket price, the better.  So if you want to try and get it for free, call this week.  Good luck.

Where it rains. No, seriously.
I'm in the same boat, have had Sunday Ticket for 12 years and have done this annual dance for the last six or so.  I initially got an offer for half off Sunday Ticket MAX and then they took the other half off, plus knocked $10/month off the bill and added Showtime for free for 4 months when it will automatically terminate unless I want to keep it.

Thanks for the reminder, I probably would have procrastinated.  This is the best deal I have gotten, so maybe there is something to calling early.

That's funny. You'd think after the fourth or fifth time they would at least try to put up some resistance to giving such a big discount.

So true, but it's almost like they don't even note that you got a free subscription (or discount) in the past.  When I call, they always say, "Well you must love the package.  Your account shows you've had it since 1999.  Let me see what I can do."  I'm always expecting them to say, "Hey asshole, you've had the NFL Ticket for 15 years and only paid full price like two times.  Fuck off."...but that never happens.

I've been using NFL Gamepass for a few years now, with no problems. It's much better for cord-cutters, because it carries EVERY game. With Thur/Mon nights mostly only on cable, DirecTV doesn't help there. It also comes with 24/7 NFL Network, and RedZone.

You have to jump through some hoops to use it (VPN thru another country), and......it's not exactly legal. Nevertheless, they happily renew me each year just before the hall-of-fame game. (Exhibitions are also included, luck of the draw as far as which teams feed).

FYI to anyone considering purchasing the standalone Sunday Ticket from DirecTv, I just bought the mobile only package (for $200), and upon completion got the following message: GREAT NEWS! YOU’VE JUST BEEN UPGRADED TO NFLSUNDAYTICKET.TV MAX (all devices, plus red zone channel. listed price $359) AT NO EXTRA CHARGE. ENJOY.

I'm going to look deeper into this and get at least one perk of the $40k I'm spending on my daughter's college tuition for myself if it works.
